Jim H better have some good accountants, too. With the budget deficit about to squeeze the Cali spendthrifts in Sacramento, all manner of tax hikes are incoming. And, they even want to tax people when they move / depart! But, I guess Jim says he's going to be there for at least 5-6 years at least.

Or until Spanos gets tired of the wild card round exits. Still, I'll be cheering for them.

With as much money as he’s taking home in net pay anyway, on top of the money he’s made throughout his career at UM and with the 49ers, I somehow don’t believe he’s going to be suffering all that much.

I don’t think the true high end earners like him lose a lot of sleep over living in CA and having to deal with their tax situation. Yes, they get taxed a lot more, but when you make more money than you know what to do with, and you’ve been making millions of dollars a year for most of your career, what difference does it make? He can still live where he wants, do what he wants, etc.

Nobody suggested Jim would be "suffering". He coaches a kid's game and has access to some of the best facilities in the world. The new Chargers facility in El Segundo looks amazing...except it is near LAX, kinda. The sound of jets overhead, descending for landing would get annoying.

Regarding his net pay, sure, he's doing fine. Sorta. A thinking person would probably get a bit peeved if they looked at their paycheck (guarantee Jim has or does) and saw all the taxes resulting in basically 60-65% of gross pay being deposited. A rational thinking person might then look around their community and state and ask "gee, for this exorbitant total tax burden, where I'm getting closer and closer to working the majority of my time for the state/government, not myself, do I at least live in near-utopia? With clean, safe streets and happy, thriving people everywhere?"

The answer in Cali would be a NO. Resoundingly "no".

Congrats Jim though! Keep propping up Sacramento! I'm sure they'll use a few of your millions wisely. That bullet train is gonna be done soon, don't you worry. Utopia needs just a few more dollars.

I think it depends on where you live in California. I was in LA and the beach communities over New Year's and you'd be hard pressed to find a more beautiful area on the west coast. There is no place with happy, thriving people everywhere. Nowhere on this planet does that exist.

Oh please. First, most wealthy people pay far less than that in taxes. Second, there is absolutely nothing harbaugh could possibly want or need that his horrible tax burden will prevent.

”sorta doing fine?” Really? I live a pretty good life here on less than 1% of his salary. IMO a “thinking person” would be far better off thinking about how good they have it, not bitching about taxes.

i can’t believe all the hand-wringing over how much millionaires living in luxury in a gorgeous place have to pay in taxes.

And for the record, I live in sf and choose to do so. Cost of living is far more impactful to me than taxes. It’s the folks who aren’t millionaires and struggle to stay afloat that I care about.

Arguably worse / lower then his actual value as one of the top 10 football coaches in the entire money-flushed sport biz. He's worth more then 8 million per year, per the market. Coaches worse then him make much more, on net. Look at the Broncos. But, I hope he enjoys the weather etc. And his tax bill.

I find Los Angeles to be a crowded, degraded, traffic-snarled dump myself, but yes, the beaches are cool.

I would love to have JH tax burdern.  Honestly no one likes paying taxes, but people do like and need government services.  It cost more to live in desirable areas, that cannot be a shock to anyone.

The more you benefit from the economy the more you should pay.  It is not a difficult concept to understand.  If you want to live in a place that has good public education, accesible heatlh care, etc. It is going to cost you more.

Sure there are lower tax obligation state, but look at where those states rank in education, health care, obesity, mortality rates, etc.  Everything has a trade off is the only point I am trying to make.

Plus JH and his family will be just fine I am certain of it.

He probably took less so he can steal Ben Herbert from us, I'll always be pissed off at him for that move.

I heard Sam Webb indicate that Harbaugh made a substantial offer to Ben, that's really showing how much he loves Michigan.

I understand taking Minter but why take Herbert from us when now we have to worry about players possibly leaving because of that, it's fucked up quite frankly.

Jim Harbaugh is ultimately about himself and what he can do to make sure he can be successful. He isn’t a sentimental guy and there are hard limits to his loyalty outside of his family.

When I think of Team 144 I will always think first of Blake, Mike, Kris, Barrett, Will, Donovan, etc.

While I appreciate the efforts of Harbaugh and McCarthy I’ll never view them with the same level of affection as I do the others. To me this will always be Blake and Mike’s team.

I think he is sentimental.

But I also think he's the kind of man that thinks that everyone should do his job. It's his job, now, to make the Chargers as good as possible.

And it was Warde's job to retain Herbert. Herbert was more valuable to Michigan than he would have been to the Chargers, and it's Warde's job to reflect that in what he offers. It's not Jim's job to lowball him.

If Warde resigns Harbaugh to a good contract during the season, we're not having any of this talk. Not only would Jim still be coaching, but it would have been a classic FU to the NCAA and the B1G that would then get backed up on the field.

Don't put this on Jim. You actually think he's going to do his job poorly just so that a guy that hates him (and lies about it) can get away with doing his own job poorly? Nothing on earth could make Jim do his job poorly, or he wouldn't be Jim.

Blaming Warde is tired  and not entirely accurate. Harbaugh had made up his mind to leave before the season if he got an offer. The previous two years show us that.

Harbaugh is notorious for having problems with his higher ups. This will probably cost him his job in LA eventually.

Warde Manuel is a mediocre AD. An nondescript AD who is neither a a Canham or a Brandon, but rather a relatively inoffensive functionary whose main job is to keep the train on the tracks and occasionally hire a engineer or two.

Same guy also took a critical part of the program when he didn’t have to. Same guy who lied about this not being an annual thing in terms of flirting with the NFL.

He did a nice thing. Good for him. But he also did things that hurt the program. Things that potentially only benefitted him.

Jim Harbaugh is for himself above all. Let’s not whitewash over that. Same for JJ.

You're full of crap.

He's not just for himself. He's for everyone around him. Because that's what leaders do. And he sacrifices himself all the time for team, for family, etc.

It's just that Michigan is no longer his team.

Michigan could have signed him during the season. Don't you forget it. It's Michigan that shoved him out. Don't fault him for doing his job now.

Harbaugh is responsible for building the team, developing the coaching staff, recruits, culture, etc.  Team 144 was his team, and the guys were playing for him.  Moore was coaching for him in the final 3 games, and said as much.

McCarthy meant as much to this time as the guys you mentioned - probably more than Donovan, given his contributions throughout the year.  Dude played on one leg for the Maryland game and was injured for OSU.  Likely don't win either game with Orji or one of the other backup QBs.
