Something to think about....

Submitted by JDeanAuthor on September 2nd, 2019 at 8:21 AM

I'd encourage you to watch the game again via B1G 60-min game, and think about this:
1.) We were without significant starters on the O-line
2.) We were without one of our top WRs
3.) We were breaking in a new RB
4.) We were breaking in a new offense
5.) We were playing against a team that easily manages 7-8 wins each season (won their conference last season, btw, and I for one will be interested in how the rest of their season goes)
6.) We had our starter QB banged up and had to go to our backup
7.) We faced a high number of aggressive defensive plays

And... despite all of that...
1.) They needed two turnovers to score two of their three touchdowns, and their third touchdown was in garbage time
2.) We STILL put 40 points on them, and left points out there due to miscues or dropped balls.
3.) Aside from the beginning, there really wasn't any doubt as to our controlling the game.

Now look at the first list of 7 I put up there, and put Rich Rod or Brady Hoke in as coach for those situations. Do we win?

I suggest that, at BEST we make it by the skin of our teeth, as it either turns into a defenseless shootout with Rich Rod or a contest to see who scores the fewest amount of points with Hoke.

We're doing fine. We need tweaking and smoothing out of the rough edges, yes, but if this is the worst we play all year, I'm fine with it.

Threads like this one are why I don't mind OT season at all.  And prepare for roughly 1000 of them between now and the end of the season.

1. Random thoughts from OP on game just played

2. Regurgitating points made countless times by countless posters since game ended

3. Nothing stated that couldn't have been placed inside one of the other countless threads making the exact same points the OP just made again.

I have never understood why people feel the need to create threads like this but simply based on the sheer volume of them there must be a reason somewhere - I just can't find it.

It's just narcissism, plain and simple. Too many "special" people who think their take is the brilliant, never before thought of explanation that will put us all at ease.

Except it never is. Ever. The older I get, the more people just annoy me in general. Now get off my lawn.

I agree and disagree. There is certainly narcissism out there on the interwebz, this site definitely has its share. But in this case, and one reason I like this community most the timex is perspective. Yes, regurgitated sometimes, but I've personally been all over the place emotionally about our win since Saturday.

I've said it once recently and I'll say it again, let's not discourage people who mean well and are generally positive. Discourage the intentional flamers and trolls. People who want to be here and contribute to the love of Michigan football... I'll always support them.

Maybe you mgrowsomeballs and create your own blog then?

To you, what qualifies as a valid and legitimate post?

The condescending attitudes and constant smug virtue signaling I see on this blog never cease to amaze me.

It’s Labor Day old Chief. You should be busy telling kids to get off your lawn.

After a couple days of letting it sink in a bit, you’re right. I think I got a bit caught up in the preseason hype and was expecting a 70 - 3 blowout. All things considered, I guess it was not a bad game.

Another positive from this game is that there are a lot of good coaching points to address this week.  I'm sure the coaches were happy with the win but not too thrilled about the execution at times and the mistakes made.  The coaches should have the players attention this week.  Expect a much sharper performance next week.

Something to think about...

How there have been enough of these posts already.  Debbie downers are going to be debbie downers. Your post isnt turning a pessimist into an optimist.

This isn't junior high. Maybe you should actually engage the post instead of resorting to immature comparisons. Or is that too difficult for you?

If you agree, it shouldn't be an issue.  If you don't, then explain why like an adult.  But lose the snobby obtuseness, please.   Don't go starting things with comments like this, you should be better than that.

Eat shit. You could've posted this crap in any of the threads that were going around yesterday. This thread isn't  anywhere near as profound as you think it is. There are 200 people who came to the same "The sky is not falling" conclusion in Ace's gamer yesterday. Your post is unnecessary. It adds nothing. And I knew it was exactly that kind of self-indulgent pre-pubescent "Guys I think I figured it out" shitpost by reading your idiotic title.

It's absolute trash and you're a moron. My previous post was doing you a favor by not spelling it all out. Your need to be heard stems from the same mentality that won't allow you to take criticism in stride. I'm guessing you're a teenager.

If you want my thoughts in detail: Your dogshit post is why they create Snowflake threads around here - to try to corral dumb crap like this into a handy container the rest of us can ignore. Its a bad post, which is why you're getting drilled with negs. My recommendation is that you never do this again, or if you do, don't call out people who are letting you off the hook with harmless jabs.

I'm copy & pasting Reggie's response.  It's perfect and if history is any judge there will be LOTS of chances to use it again this season.

Yeah, I forget to mention in my post above that the OPs who post drivel like this one tend to really get their feelings hurt when called out on their sophomoric bullshit post.

Nicely done Reggie.

So pointing out factual information about a game is now being a "snowflake?"

I believe the definition of "snowflake" is "somebody who melts down easily or quickly overreacts."

Considering the differing tones of our conversation, I'm not the one getting all hot and bothered because stats were pointed out. I'm not the one having the meltdown here, friend.

You don't like the post, don't engage it.  You disagree with something I've put, fine; then have a RATIONAL talk about it. I'm not above being corrected. I don't claim to be a football "know-it-all".  But your tone is unreasonable and implies an anger management issue to be frank.  I don't know why you're so worked up about the OP; it's observations and comparisons without any "sky is falling" issues, that's all.

Funny thing is, I don't hate you. I pity you if your response to an OP is that hostile and that unwarranted.  I bet you'd probably be an intelligent and interesting fellow when you want to be. I just don't understand why you're choosing not to be at the moment.

But unless you're actually going to contribute to the conversation with something other than namecalling and four letter word bombs that do nothing to demonstrate what actual, rational thoughts you might have, we're done.

And no, I'm not a teenager.

You're completely missing the point OP. His complaint, my complaint and the complaint of a LOT of other posters in this thread was your post added nothing that hasn't been stated already countless times and could've (should've) been simply a comment made in any of the snowflake threads.

You created an post to restate the obvious to a fairly knowledgeable and informed segment of the Michigan fanbase and wonder why it's being poorly received.

I am happy to be the first person to have negged this thread. If I could have put things as eloquently as Reggie did, I would have.

JDean,

MGoBlog - Brian, the mods, etc. discourage these posts by creating the snowflake threads. That’s why we have them. They won’t take the time to rip down every dumb post but that doesn’t mean they want them. You are directly contributing to what they don’t want.

Also, you are 100% a teenager emotionally. Maybe you are older than a teen but you clearly stopped maturing around there.

"Snowflake" refers to people thinking they are especially special and their opinions especially precious. It has nothing to do with melting down or fragility.

For reference: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Snowflake

This is not 'Nam. There are rules. Those were on the board not so long ago when we exited OT season. But the many posts have of course pushed those rules down a bit. But this is why you're entering a world of pain, Smokey.

I totally changed my perspective after a re-watch. Despite a few early mistakes, Michigan was dominating on both sides of the ball. Up 24-7 at 5:05 of the 2nd quarter. About to receive the ball at their 34 yard line and likely go up 31-7 after shredding MTSU's defense for the 5th drive in a row.

And then Lavert Hill muffs the punt and the complexion of the remainder of the game changes. This is in fact a pattern in the Harbaugh era. There are many instances of mental mistakes that become momentum changers. The team loses its confidence, coaches go into a shell, and the good feelings go up in smoke.

Somehow they have to stop being so fragile when they make a mistake. They need to shake it off and go make a play instead of shrinking. Defense could have made a stand after the mistake and then turned it over to the offense to continue the rout. Instead they gave up an easy TD and went into a funk offensively for a quarter.

I think they can be a dominant team this year based on talent, scheme, and coaching as long as they can stop the mental breakdowns which turn into extended slumps.

^^^THIS^^^

How many times have we seen this?

off the top of my head:

Iowa 2016, up 10-0 and the safety.

MSU 2017 up 7-0 and rolling and the Isaacs fumble.

OSU 2017 up 14-0 and the Metallus dropped pick.

OSU 2018 the coin flip.

The problem is this is what we call football though, lead changes, things happen etc.... Give me any team in the country and I can fine numerous examples for them.

The odd part isn't it as much that it is this but instead the fans reaction.

Way too much overanalyzing here. This team is at same level we thought it was before the game. When this year is over this past game will have no bearing on what we feel about this team

1st & 2nd string QBs out there at same time - plus the big hits both of them took got everyone a little edgy.

Exactly.  Fans like me are already questioning the coaching after the way the last two games from last season went.  Then the dumb 2 QB plays, and turning DM into a RB.  You don't see Alabama, Clemson, or OSU running 2 QB plays.  So, yeah, I'm a little edgy too.
