Snowflake Thread: Offense Vs. Air Force

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

This will be the repository for your thoughts and hot takes on the offense in our game against Air Force.

This should be fun.

If it's impossible to imagine a worse QB play, I don't think you've watched much college football (*cough* Nebraska *cough). Hell, I don't think you've watched much Michigan football in the last 10 years (over which period Speight is the best throwing QB we've had by a mile except for half a season of Rudock). This isn't good but good god don't tempt fate - it could be worse. So much worse.

No, you didn't say, "impossible." You said, "It's possible that the alternative is worse, but it's hard to imagine." Based on this and our exchange above, I think you're having trouble understanding the concept of implication. When one states that it's "hard to imagine that an alternative is possible," they're IMPLYING that that alternative is impossible. I don't know when your fandom began, but for some of us, is EASY to imagine a worse alternative.

Awww Angry Sten, you again? Cute. I figured you would have raged yourself into a nap by now.  And as a matter of logic, your point is objectively incorrect.  Something can be difficult to imagine and far from impossible.  Come on Angry Sten, my 2nd graders can figure that one out!

Alright, General ... enough of this. I'm not angry and I'm growing tired of being at odds with you. I apologize for anything I've done to take the tone of this great site toward contentious. I was wrong to insult you and Born In AA -- who I hope reads this. We're all frustrated, we're all powerless to do anything about, and we have to just sit back and watch the season unfold. Unfortunately, I've allow my frustration to take us to a bad place. Again, mea culpa. All I would ask is if we could all just chill a bit, accept where we're at right now -- for a variety of reasons -- and support the team as best we can. *virtual handshake?*

I am putting the lack of passes to TE's on the play calling. Absolutely horrendous in this game. Wasn't there so hard to say much about what Speight was missing, but it's ridiculous the lack of TE production to date in our offense.

I am not sure anymore if Speight is going to improve anymore. I was holding out hope. I want him to prove me wrong. If Peters does not have the common and of the offense, throw him into fire. Let him make mistakes. It is not like we are reading the defense and making throws to use it. Speight is wasting his presnap reads. We need a play maker and take chances. This defense is that good.

I know Florida was ahead for a bit, but the first team that gets ahead and has both a competent defense and offense will likely win. Unless the offense starts clicking.

from now at Purdue suddenly looks challenging.

Purdue can score.  Not good on D, but if Speight (and Drevno's play calling) are like today, it won't matter.

I keep thinking of MSU 2013.  Terrible offense early in the year.  Excellent D carried them to some narrow wins.  Eventually their offense improved, and...

I think we'll get by Purdue and MSU. I'm completely uncertain about PSU. Which is bad because I still don't think they (PSU) are great but I can't see this offense being able to dig itself out. Indiana may be a bitch of a game.

Not calling for anyone's firing at this point, but if Harbaugh wants his players to continue believe that the system is meritocratic, he really needs to give some other snaps to O'Korn and/or Peters. Speight has had bad games for three straight weeks. Program culture can get toxic if there are no consequences for shit play.

Sure. I guess I just have a hard time believing that none of the other stud recruit QBs on the roster that Harbaugh hand picked to come to Michigan can't do better than the shitshow we've seen these past three weeks. Maybe they can't. I'm not even saying they should start, though. Just that they should get some snaps. I'd be surprised if they hadn't shown enough in practice to earn at least that.

If the back ups are currently busting their ass in practice and continue to see the starter in front of them struggle, how long until they start coasting through practices and losing interest if they don't see snaps? Meritocracy is what we preach but are we practicing what we preach?

O'Korn and Peters must look REALLY bad in practice is the best I can come up with.

It was never almost won by 40. We can't do the 'what if' crap.  What if Air Force doesn't miss a chip shot field goal? What if DPJ doesn't take a punt back 70 yards? What if that pass to Black gets picked off like it probably should have? You can go on and on both ways every single game. It is pointless.

But I still wonder how much of it is all new wide receivers and tight ends. Even our "#1" WR in Crawford has the dropsies and can't seem to get separation. They might not be giving an average Speight any help
