I'd rather it be called "The Fab Five Court" or "Court of the Fab Five".  That was history making...history making in college basketball, pop culture, and Michigan Basketball.  That team was the most influential teams in the history of college basketball.  Period.

Holy shit. This is the dumbest shit I have seen all day. And I'm watching the Bachelorette with my wife right now...

Had he retired here, I would've legally changed my middle name to "JohnBeilein". Now? Nah. I appreciate what he's done but I also wonder if he appreciates how much he's given up to pursue the NBA dream.  The pros may have a handful of things that college doesn't (money, no recruiting, etc...) but no NBA coach will ever be beloved like a college coach. None.

Jerry Sloan?  I grew up watching the Jazz, and he is still beloved by the fan base as far as I can tell.  Not saying that could happen again, and it certainly won't happen with the situation Beilein is going into, but it does happen.  Also, Spurs fans love Pop.  Maybe it's a small market, right front office NBA phenomenon

That's a fair point about Pop currently.  When I pondered current coaches he's really the only one who I thought might've come close.  As an outsider, it seems as though everybody in San Antonio really likes him, but he isn't the king of his kingdom in the way a college coach could be (though maybe my estimation of that is off).  I've got markedly less familiarity with Jerry Sloan, admittedly.

Fucking HELL NO!!!

I love John Beilein and wish him well at Cleveland.  But the simple fact is that he left for what he considers a better place.  He had a great run here, an awesome run.  He may be considered a legend in time, but not right now.  In fact, if Manual makes a good hire, we might forget about Beilein after a Championship with his (mostly) players...

He doesn't get a court named after him.  At least not right now...

Steve Fisher won one.

Where is he honored?

We do a shit job of recognizing our MBB greats. Haven't raised any jerseys into the rafters since the Amaker era.

The court or something should be named after Beilein someday. But not any time soon. Don't know what the OP was thinking with this.

There should be a moratorium on naming anything after a living person.  It sends all kinds of bad messages, and it leaves you open to embarrassment should that person go on to do something you'd rather they didn't.

As for retired jerseys -- I'm pretty sure you have to be a graduate to get your jersey raised, and I'm OK with that, even as it's increasingly likely that there will never be another four-year player at Michigan worthy of a retired jersey.  If Burke, Webber, or Rose want to come back and get a degree, fine.
