This was the kid ND chose over JJ.
December 4th, 2023 at 10:25 PM ^
What's that, like 15% of their scholarship players?
Seems like a lot.
December 4th, 2023 at 10:47 PM ^
The silver lining is it won't affect class attendance one iota.
December 4th, 2023 at 10:58 PM ^
Or their graduation rate.
December 5th, 2023 at 6:28 AM ^
The ohio NIL bank account is running low.
December 5th, 2023 at 12:05 PM ^
If they have to "buy" 11 replacements, it's going to cost a lot more than that NIL pool they have yet to fill up.
December 4th, 2023 at 10:26 PM ^
Ratings for OSU-Mizzou will be...interesting.
Almost feel sorry for advertisers who are paying for spots for the Cotton Bowl. Unless many more viewers than I expect love to see players in their first game.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:46 PM ^
It's going to be that way for a lot of these bowls. So many players, especially QBs, in the portal or opting out.
Not sure what the solution is. I feel players should have an opportunity to transfer as they please, and December is probably the only window for many of them to do a midseason transfer before the second semester begins. But it is wrecking havoc on the postseason, and I have to imagine there will be some teams that make the playoff in future years that will have depth players enter the portal and transfer in the middle of the playoff.
December 5th, 2023 at 5:53 AM ^
Sponsors could play the players to compete in the game per NIL rules. Perfect transition to the NFL. Win your regular season games, and get a bonus.
The funny thing is that corporate can be so short-sided, they may actually start doing this to make revenue on just the bowls not realizing that the players can just start moving the goalposts.
December 5th, 2023 at 12:06 PM ^
You are going to get some CFP 1st round teams in the 12 team playoff have players that sit it out. It's coming.
December 5th, 2023 at 9:24 AM ^
I'll still watch some of it. Hell, I'll watch all of it is Mizzou bullies them. You know at least 95% of their team will play since its the best bowl game they've been to in forever. Right now the line is osu -1.5 lol

Is there a list of players? I know of McCord and Fleming, but who else?
December 4th, 2023 at 10:50 PM ^
Front page of 11 Warriors
December 4th, 2023 at 11:07 PM ^
Might be easier to mark the skill players staying when you pull up their roster
December 5th, 2023 at 3:11 AM ^
Would McCord come to Michigan if JJ leaves for the NFL? Harbaugh could turn him into a top QB prospect and he could be a good fix for next year and give our freshman QBs sometime to develop.
December 5th, 2023 at 7:03 AM ^
If Harbaugh had the ability to turn someone into a top prospect, there would be some Michigan QBs in the NFL. The best any coach can do is help a player maximize their potential. There can be no doubt Harbaugh has done a great job at Michigan, but his record with QBs is spotty.
December 5th, 2023 at 12:07 PM ^
And he could give us their signs.
December 5th, 2023 at 4:25 AM ^
Jyaire Brown must've played some because I recognize his name, too.
December 4th, 2023 at 10:35 PM ^
Wasn't it recently that Alabama had like 20? Not sure this is as big a deal as much as it is schadenfreude fuel.
December 5th, 2023 at 12:47 AM ^
I don’t know about Bama, but 11 on day 1 isn’t good. These kids couldn’t wait for bowl practices or the semester to end — the second they could, they signaled they wanted out. If Bama had 20 I can’t imagine it was all day 1. The list will likely grow for them.

It'll be interesting to see how everything shakes out over the next month or so. The top 4 will surely shed some talent as well post bowl games but yeah....11 is reeeealllly high for early December.

Something about rats & a ship.
Can't remember how it goes.
December 4th, 2023 at 10:59 PM ^
I think it means the rats are actually smarter than the unfortunate fools who stay on board and go down with The WF Sinking Ship.
then again, the portal ain't what it used to be. fleming strikes me as a good snag if we can get him.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:29 PM ^
Well we do know Day is a rat.
December 4th, 2023 at 10:46 PM ^
Looks like OSU didn’t get their $13M to keep the roster intact.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:05 PM ^
Ringing endorsement of douche-face Ryan
December 4th, 2023 at 11:18 PM ^
While I enjoy OSU pain as much as anyone I went through the list of players and didn't recognize most of those guys aside Fleming and Honda. None are "true freshman" types either who left after year 1, so it looks to be a lot of guys in year 3 who are being processed or self processing themselves. Day is in desperation mode.
So just making room for more high 4* 5* incoming freshman and I am sure they are going to copy Michigan's successful process of NIL for older successful college players to supplement their stupid level of recruiting.
December 5th, 2023 at 4:31 AM ^
Ryan Day allegedly met with his team Sunday and, among other things, told them, “Go ahead and jump in that portal and do whatever you gonna get … The more of you jump in, the more room you make.”
December 5th, 2023 at 10:50 AM ^
I think you nailed it. On the surface it may appear as though the "rats are jumping ship," but it's much more likely OSU is processing (or cutting) players.
I'd rather OSU be stuck with McCord than getting to, in essence, cut him and bring in another, better QB. Hopefully this will turn out to be another Joe Burrow situation and McCord goes elsewhere and becomes a star.
December 5th, 2023 at 12:11 PM ^
At some point though, a team of all new payers is going to bite them in the ass.
The one clear advantage they had over us next year, a more experienced roster, is gone. We'll be breaking in a bunch of new guys, but so will they.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:19 PM ^
I guarantee that, within 24-48 hours, the narrative at 11W will be: "Our Executive incoming class is so strong that our roster will be even stronger after the portal & NFL departures.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:32 PM ^
Seems pretty important the family atmosphere that Harbaugh is cultivating in A2. Not only is it preferable for Harbaugh by disposition (the guy has a massive biological family of his own), but it's a strategic thing to create a sense of belonging that can be a counterweight against bag money for certain student-athletes. It's no accident that Harbaugh is always referencing "James Corum" and "Ray Sainristil" every chance he gets.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:34 PM ^
McCord is one of the transfers

By this graphic that’s 44Stars and a K transferring away
December 4th, 2023 at 11:56 PM ^
All those starzzzz, no gold pants, not national titles.
Glorious.
Recruits should start looking to where they will get developed
Hint: Come to Michigan

Only to go 4-8 again
December 5th, 2023 at 9:42 AM ^
Nah. Colorado will be a bowl team next year. You forget how weak Pac 10 will be? He'll load up now that he got that first year out of the way.
December 5th, 2023 at 9:47 AM ^
Not sure if serious or not, but just in case you are, there is no more Pac 12. Colorado will be playing in the Big 12 starting next season.
Would be shocked if Colorado cant get to at least 6 wins next year in a wide open Big 12 without Texas/OU.
December 5th, 2023 at 10:22 AM ^
Thats right, forgot they're B12 now. I still think Colorado will be a bowl team.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:46 PM ^
If someone in the portal now, can they still participate in the bowl game? Or are they ineligible?
December 5th, 2023 at 8:43 AM ^
Pretty sure it's up to the school and/or player and depends on the situation. For example, Bryson Barnes from Utah is in the portal but is still going to play in their bowl game. His is a unique scenario, as he's currently the starting QB (and I believe is the only one left on the roster who's ever taken a meaningful snap), but almost assuredly won't be next season as Cam Rising is returning for another year.
December 5th, 2023 at 12:10 AM ^
There’s part of me that wonders whether the portal is in part to blame for things like tunnel gate. There’s always an intensity around certain rivalries, but at least back in the day most of the rosters were made up of guys who knew each other pretty well in high school and from the recruiting trail. These mercenary squads inherently lack the same connections, which is amplified by the kind of mindset that leads one to be a sell sword in the first place.
December 5th, 2023 at 6:23 AM ^
MSU has been pulling shit for years.
December 5th, 2023 at 7:27 AM ^
Narduzzi's "60 minutes of unnecessary roughness" against UM occurred before the portal existed. Remember when an MSU player tried to twist Denard's head around at the bottom of the pile?

portals and tunnels are similar, but I dont think they're related here.

Seeing some rumors that Cam Ward is going to transfer there. Which is a big bet, on both sides of it.
Watched a lot of his football and he is either “wtf are you doing, why would you do that?!” to “oh damn, OK I can see why NFL scouts are looking”
but he will make some of the most boneheaded plays sometimes, which seems to happen more often than those eye popping ones
December 5th, 2023 at 8:49 AM ^
This is my thought. He makes some incredible plays and then turns around and throws a braindead pick or runs out of a perfect pocket and takes a 15-yard sack. Maybe he'll tighten up some of the stupid heroball stuff, but at this point I'd say it's pretty well baked in to his game.
I'm sure OSU thinks they need a gamechanger at QB after McCord, but honestly, he wasn't the problem. Their OL has been really bad (and not just for OSU standards) for a couple of years now. Ward may win them a game with some highlight stuff, but absolutely will lose them one on his own with something facepalm-worthy.
