Per source, Michigan framed up the head coaching opportunity to Juwan Howard during his interview on Tuesday by selling him on becoming the "basketball version of Jim Harbaugh," providing the resources to build a "pro-style” program.@5ReasonsSports @Lefty_Leif @Balas_Wolverine

And Juwan didn't need much selling. He made it clear immediately when John Beilein left that he was interested. He was the first guy we know of who reached out (through a very good friend of ours - and the program's). https://t.co/ewK7lir30s

I'm told that Juwan Howard will indeed be the next head coach at U of M.

His interviews with Warde Manuel & Turnkey were outstanding. Told Manuel there would be no dalliances with the NBA.

Also told that Michigan is going to make a massive offer to keep Luke Yaklich on staff.

I am also told that Michigan reached out to Stevens, Few, Donovan, Wright. None were interested.

The preference was Howard to paying LaVall Jordan’s buyout. Shaka Smart would have been the next option.

Cooley used his connections to get an interview so he could leverage that.

Don't fuck with my emotions...I just literally posted this...

Won't get excited until I know Yaklich is on board.

Once that happens...I'm ALL IN! Until then, I'm, well, skeptical.

I think this can work if we get something like this...

HC: Juwan Howard
AHC: Luke Yaklich
AC: Someone (preferably younger) who can recruit his (or her) ASS off AND coach the guards
(Kimani Young - UConn, Chris Quinn - Miami Heat (ex-ND player, Columbus native), Jimmy King - HS Coach)
AC: Someone with HC experience that wants to hang around for a couple of years.
(Tim Miles is a pipe dream, Kareem Richardson from UMKC may have some L'ville stench on him, maybe someone like Maurice Joseph from GW or Chris Casey from Niagara?)

This would be a DREAM staff, IMO.

Sounds like 95% of the exact same stuff I was hearing. The biggest question now will be if Yak will accept the raise and stay which I believe he will for a year. Saddi is the one I wonder about. Haven’t heard a word about him.

I hope all of this is true but IMO Jeff Moss is about as connected as my morning dumps. He has thrown out total bullshit about Harbaugh and then hid behind "sources" when it of course was wrong. Dude's a total hack.

You insisted yesterday that Warde had serious interest in hiring Cooley because he was one of two people to get an interview. You also gave people shit for saying that interview was a favor and that he never really was a viable option.

Now there’s quotes saying just that. If you’d keep your mouth shut for a day and wait for information to come out you’d prevent yourself from looking like such an ass all the time.

LeBron is a Buckeye, but I wouldn't be surpirsed to see DWade in Maize and Blue.

Remember, Wade was a Jordan Brand guy until he went with his own shoe from China.

Regardless, they're both HUGE supporters and that's going to be awesome for Michigan.

I personally think he'll be able to sell LeBron and DWade MORE than he can sell the Fab 5.

I'm happy with this.  Aside from unobtainable 'home runs' (Donovan, Stevens, Wright, et all), getting a highly regarded NBA veteran and soon-to-be NBA coach is as good as anything is going to get this time of year.  Add the history with Michigan that he has, and the fact that he's worked for really good organizations and head coaches, and it's only better.

Of the available guys, he was one of the very few above my hypothetical Yak-line.  I think the only way this could have gone better is a so-called 'home run'.  It could have easily gone way wrong...

Steve Prohm, Kevin Willard, Kevin Keatts, Dan Muller, Gregg Marshall, Shaka Smart, Dan Majerle, Luke Yaklich, Randy Bennett, Mark Few.  Ya know, coaches who have had success in college basketball.

But Warde would've had to make calls, conducted interviews, and stuff.  Too much effort to hire a head coach in 1 of the 2 revenue sports I guess.
