SIAP: B1G Moving Back to 8 Conference Games (2022 or Sooner)
The B1G wants to move back to 8 conference games. It is a matter of when, not if. The current scheduling arrangement runs through 2021. Some are saying the change could possibly take place in 2020.
Why? They want to even the playing field with the SEC and ACC for access to the CFP. In addition, it reduces scheduling burdens and allows for B1G teams to get back to 7-8 home games on a more consistent basis.
Use last year's results to seed next year's schedule. Use PF/PA in conference for tie breakers. Home vs Away goes to higher seed, unless the last time the 2 teams played was home for higher seed.
If it is 2022, it'd be nice to see the Big Ten also give us Michigan State at home again so they and Ohio State alternate home and away games each year!
Perfect time to fix the scheduling of Ohio & Baylor North... seems too logical they’ll wait til 2030.
Can we cut a school or three out of the conference, too? Asking for, well, everyone.
I don't like this. It means we'll play just two of the seven teams in the West per year. We'll have more long (4-6 year) stretches without playing a team in our own conference.
That said, if we can get the MSU/OSU issue resolved by doing this, I'll take that tradeoff.
Change the rules so that the only teams that can qualify for the College Football Playoffs and New Year's Six Bowl games are those that have played at least nine conference games (except for Independents that would have to schedule at least nine games against teams from the "Power Five" conferences) and ALL games must be played against Division I opponents. Each team must have at least six home games, unlesss they agree to play fewer home games in a season when they've scheduled a neutral-site game.
No more Miami (Coral Gables) vs. Savannah State, Virginia Tech vs. William & Mary, Georgia vs. Austin Peay, LSU vs. Southeastern Louisiana, Florida vs. Idaho, South Carolina vs. Coastal Carolina, Alabama vs. Citadel, Duke vs. North Carolina Central, Texas A & M vs. Northwestern State, Auburn vs. Liberty and Alabama State, Syracuse vs. Wagner -- all games that are on the 2018 schedule along with matchups from some of the other "Power Five" conferences like Stanford vs. UC-Davis, Washington vs. North Dakota and TCU vs. Southern.
Of course, this could pose some logistical nightmares and possible financial losses for teams that have arranged schedules far in advance, but teams changing schedules to drop some opponents in exchange for more favorable matchups isn't a new thing.
This is the correct response. If all the other conferences are playing 9 conference games then the southern conferences should get with the program. not resort back to everyone scheduling a D-IAA game in the non-conference. But the committee will cave and try to act like scheduling matters when the ACC & SEC show that it doesn't
Hell, two weeks in a row.
"I told them all five years ago more matchups against Michigan State would be the best option to heighten Michigan's brand awareness and activate new revenue streams in mid-Michigan. Who's the DB now? I'LL TAKE THAT APOLOGY NOTE IN SKYWRITING!"
That Rutgers and Maryland addition to the conference... really jacking this up. I love my Madison, WI road games
Nick Saban will come up with a new way of getting an advantage in his scheduling. There's more Chattanoogas out there.
UCF would like a moment of your time.
Booooo. This sucks.
Keep the 9 games.
Maybe we can kick Rutgers out of the conference by then.
and maybe THIS time when they reconfig the conference schedule MSU plays AT UM twice in a row....
