Sainristil blurb on Rivals

Submitted by Laser Wolf on May 16th, 2019 at 8:16 PM

There is an article posted today about freshman early enrollees having a significant impact so far this spring. Mike Sainristil was highlighted for Michigan by Rivals and Mike Farrell in a free article as follows:

"The skinny: Sainristil was initially committed to Virginia Tech, but then he took an official visit to Michigan during the spring while still committed to the Hokies. This quickly changed everything, and eventually he committed to the Wolverines during his senior season. Not many people expected Sainristil to accomplish what he did during his first spring in Ann Arbor. But after showcasing next-level abilities he quickly moved up the depth chart at wide receiver until he was announced as a starter. With new offensive coordinator Josh Gattis implementing a more open offense, Sainristil’s skills may very well be in the spotlight this fall.

Farrell’s take: We had Sainristill ranked as an athlete because he could play numerous positions, but we didn’t have him ranked high enough to make an impact like this. He’s small, but he’s super-quick and a great fit in the new Michigan offense. A lot of teams slept on him coming out of high school, but Michigan saw something special and the Wolverines could be rewarded."

I agree.

Also, I could be wrong but a larger point for me is that when a true freshman starts, or is in the rotation, it HELPS RECRUITING.  I've said this before, but whatevs.

D Hill, Charbonnet and a DLine freshman will prolly get some snaps this fall.  This is all good news.

When coaches recruit and go tell a HS Senior 'You could play next year' and you have a track record of playing them, you have credibility with those recruits/parents.

I'll continue to pound this drum.  On signing day, I posted on here that this guy would be the best player in the class.  Better than Hill.  Better than Charbonnet.  Better than anyone.  I'm gonna keep reminding everyone of that over the next few years.

How many times have we heard this before?? Kid is phenomenal in the spring and then goes unheard from during the season. I don’t believe for one minute that he is going to be better than Hill or Charbonnet. Those two kids were rated very highly for a reason and they should be stars and possibly first round NFL draft picks in the future. Sainristil doesn’t have first round draft pick capabilities. But I could be wrong...

Long as we're putting in our predictions, I'd like to state mine:

1. David Ojabo will be the highest drafted player in the class.

2. I think it's hard to define "best" player in a class because of positional value, but I agree with you on Sainrisil.

3. Little scared to post number 3 because I don't wanna trash anyone, but I think that a four star player from a long way away that won't ever see the field because I don't think he's any good.

Alright people, we need to come back to earth a little bit with the whole "trashing players" thing.

It's not "trashing players" to discuss their on-field performance and post our thoughts and opinions of how well / not well they played or how well / not well we THINK they might play in the future. That's called NORMAL football discussion.

Trashing players is more like "man, so and so is such a crapy person because because." or "My brother's friend's cousin's co-worker said he heard from a guy that XYZ player is a lousy cheat and poison in the locker room and we should all verbally assault him in the Twitterverse."

This kid is a baller. I hope people understand how smart the recruiting strategy Michigan is using is. They now have legit roots in Georgia, Texas, and Florida, and basically have the Northeast locked down. You'll look at the New England area and say that it aint much, and there aren't an overwhelming amount of blue chippers there. You certainly can't make a competitive team recruiting exclusively from the New England area. But you add the New England area, New Jersey, and the in state talent of Michigan together, and you're coming close to rivaling Ohio. It's easier for Ohio State to get Ohio kids, but in 2015 the New England area produced Lukas Denis, Chris Lindstrom, Christian Wilkins, Zach Allen, Darnell Savage, and Quadree Henderson. That's 3 first rounders, a second rounder and some high quality UDFAs out of 3 states. There's talent there, and if you can identify it and take advantage early, it can pay serious dividends.

Frankly, no one has a "significant impact" in the spring, because we don't play real games in the spring.  Lots of guys show flashes, and many of them fizzle out when it comes to real competition.

Not gonna lie.  I see a kid with great vision, average speed, average quickness.  I see a middling 3 star who tries to jump cut too much and B10 linebackers are going to eat that up.

I HOPE that I'm so wrong I look like 1284.  Or Wolverine Devotee back in his WWE lovefest days.

Itd be awesome if for once the football gods blessed our program and Sainristil burst on to the scene like Purdues Rondale Moore did last season

Underrated comment.

Seriously! I mean, when on earth was the last time we had a player like Moore come in and dominate all season long? The closest I can think of was Denard and even he seemed to get shutdown by better teams as the season wore on and teams figured out how to stop him.
