I suspect a big part of it is the last of the Hoke and/or Mattison trainees on the DL are out the door. Poor development on the D-line is showing because you've got Hutch, Paye, and then no one else doing anything

Yea I mean walkon Hunter Reynolds looks better than Brad Hawkins. Reynolds was making tackles at the LOS and batting balls down in the endzone. So why is the walkon looking better than the starter?

Because Jim is emphasizing a NFL body for the recruits he picks... Not the avg Ohio athletes Bo would get that really knee how to play. Cade is the first qb Jim has recruited that knows how to play. Ask yourself did you notice Cade doing any dumbfuck moves ? None. Sound as can be. Now go back and think of every qb save maybe Rudock, since the carr years.
That will tell you that a star is born, and we finally have a QB.

Shibley blew his responsibility on Rutgers TD that sent it into overtime. He was responsible for dropping into the middle zone and got caught in no mans land when he ran up to try and stop a QB run from 15 yards away. If he's where he was supposed to be that game never gets to OT.

Ball was thrown from the 16. But Shibley already but to play the QB run. He was at the 5 when the ball went over his head.
And it was Reynolds who whiffed on knocking down the pass.

Wouldn't say Reynolds whiffed. The QB just made a good pass that put it in a place that the safety wouldn't be able to get it. Shibley has to be smarter there and trust his role. If Reynolds was able to converge on the ball quicker, that's just a great play on his part.

Maybe, but Borges, for all his faults, used that throwback screen at least once a game, and it always worked. Didn’t matter if it was Denicos Allen, Ryan Shazier or Manti Teo defending. It’ll be Barrett -2, but also RPS -2.

i don't know if they actually played better, or it just seemed that way because there was less pressure on them once the offense started moving the ball.
Except for the last couple of overtime, they were unable to make stops when we really needed them.

Pet peeve. Seems a little off to be citing the number of points given up in an OT game. That being said, giving up 35 in regulation is enough to support your point.

The good: Josh Ross is lost is pass coverage, but he was all over the place on run plays
The bad: Pass rush is still non-existent. It’s a group of extremely poor athletes.
The ugly: This defense is completely VOID of playmakers. I know DAX Hill had the game-winning interception, but he had a awful game where at times he looked mentally checked out. Nobody on this defense flashes

Yeah, i saw 3 or 4 plays where it looked like he wasn’t even trying. I guess I can’t blame him with all the incompetence surrounding him, but it was nice seeing him fly around and make plays in the first couple games.

I think Dax is gone. The long pass in the first half, he was just waiting for the INT. Their long TD in the 2nd half that he busted, the fastest guy on the team just jogged behind, then gave up.

Yeah he was lazy out there. I don't get it. That first Rutgers bomb he easily could've swapped down but he just sort of jumped up expecting the pick to fall right into his belly. I remember a bunch of other plays where he just didn't look like he was trying

Ross made many tackles on run plays, but several of those were 7+ yards down the field. Really doesn't seem like he should get credit for those unless he is covering up someone else's mess.

If Cade McNamara is the real deal and they play well down the stretch, you might be able to convince me not to sack Harbaugh and Gattis. But if Don Brown is still around next season, that alone is reason to let Harbaugh go. That performance was not acceptable, win or not.

Terrible for sure. But they were down their 4 best defensive players: Paye, Hutch, McGrone and eventually Hawkins. Not to mention Ambry. They at this point just have little talent.
