Rumor: Michigan Vs. Michigan State Game Under The Lights
Not sure how I feel about this. Could be Epic or Epically bad idea

I assume they're talking about that weekday traffic which is another animal. When I lived in DC, I was Metro or bust M-F.
Plus, the at-home experience is superior during commercial breaks. You can flip to another game for a few minutes, which is great if it's another ranked matchup or a game coming down to the wire. In the stadium, with iffy WiFi, you have to hope you're surrounded by good conversationalists.
August 11th, 2022 at 11:08 AM ^
To skip the commercials start watching your recorded stream 60-90 min after the scheduled kickoff. Fast forward thru the dead air and you should be "live" for the last 10 min of clock in the game. The only issue is texting/social media interactions have to be muted until you go live.
August 11th, 2022 at 11:14 AM ^
Hulu balks at doing that for me. It seems like it should work (and did at one point a few years ago) but no. Forces me to watch live the ads (even paying up for an ad-free experience). About 15 minutes after the conclusion of the game, skipping forward/back works perfectly but not while it's still a live game. Odd.
And yes, mute to avoid the spoilers, ;-)
But I will try again this season.
August 11th, 2022 at 12:49 PM ^
Mine is based on YTTV--here's hoping they don't adopt the Hulu "feature".
With a billion dollars of advertising to sell, I wonder if we can expect a lot more ads as chyrons and other ways to make ads unavoidable.

Re: skipping the commercials, if you can stand it, start recording the game, start watching it an hour later and skip the commercials while you watch.

Noon kickoffs because the ratings success of FOX Big Noon Kickoff games proves that it's not just tradition. In 2021, the most watched college football game of the year kicked off at Noon.
With the upcoming TV contract changes, I think you're going to see a nice blend of Noon, 3:30, and 8:00 kickoffs in the coming years.
August 11th, 2022 at 11:39 AM ^
That's because they put the 3-5 biggest games of the year at noon, thus distorting the ratings. You could put M-OSU at 4 am and it would draw. Generally, though, most noon games draw much more mediocre ratings.
August 11th, 2022 at 9:44 AM ^
I hate noon games. It's to early in the day. I like 3:30 and wish there were more of them. Since I don't really attend games, I'm starting to like night games more than I used to. I can do stuff during the day and still be able to watch the game in full.
August 11th, 2022 at 10:29 AM ^
I like the anticipation of a night game. Thinking about the game all day makes it more enjoyable for me.
August 11th, 2022 at 11:56 AM ^
Noon games sucks. Unless it's the OSU game, everyone looks like they're half asleep. Less energy. Stadium doesn't fill till halftime.
August 11th, 2022 at 10:10 AM ^
3:30 is by far the best time slot, particularly for mid-late season games and Michigan never, ever gets it anymore. I even liked 3:30 for M v OSU in 2006.
August 11th, 2022 at 10:51 AM ^
Strong disagreement here. With noon games, you've still got a lot of the day afterwards. 3:30 games feel like they take up the whole day. I love Michigan football, but sometimes I've got other things to do on a Saturday, too. And if you're at the game, it's much harder to get seated at a restaurant in Ann Arbor after a 3:30 game than after a noon one.
August 11th, 2022 at 11:40 AM ^
You realize a 330pm game gives you half a day before the game starts, no? A noon game ends between 3 and 4. So that eats up the same amount of daytime. Jeez.
August 11th, 2022 at 4:37 PM ^
It's not the same. 3:30 games break up your day awkwardly. Also, if you're going to the game, you can't watch the second half of the noon games, and you'll probably miss most of the other interesting games, since other conferences like to play them in the 3:30 time slot.
Noon works out the best, especially since the Big Ten basically monopolizes good games in that window.
August 11th, 2022 at 11:15 AM ^
I'll agree, 2-3 night games are fine and would like to see more 3:30 games. Noon/1PM's are fine if we're playing Rutger or Maryland types when there's no need for the anticipation to build. Later games give me an opportunity to pellet smoke something as well.
August 11th, 2022 at 12:15 PM ^
noon games allow you to stay up all night friday and smoke something

It is entirely possible that the Michigan/MSU game could be at night. But the gist of this article is "Some guy told us this might happen and here are some quotes from nine years ago and a suggestive headline to help us turn this into click bait."
August 11th, 2022 at 8:41 AM ^
Please, no. Not because of any "Football is meant to be played at noon, not what Bo would want, get off my lawn" kind of sentiment. This is purely for selfish reasons.
There's just some games, like MSU and OSU, that I prefer to get out of the way first thing. Hate waiting all day for it. Just kick that game off at noon and let's either get my celebration started, or get my misery done and over with.
August 11th, 2022 at 8:48 AM ^
I also have selfish reasons, but mine is that I don't want to see replays of that fucking punt all fucking day.
August 11th, 2022 at 9:19 AM ^
pdg:
That punt and the Horror make me like Fat Amy from Pitch Perfect leaving the burrito on her neck because it fuels my anger.
I am torn on this as I would like the national stage to observe the evisceration but waiting all day is brutal. Being final game can't DVR and watch until 3AM commercial free.
August 11th, 2022 at 9:04 AM ^
I am on the same boat. I am nervous wreck for those games. It is fun to have M win that game and gleefully watch other games for upsets.
August 11th, 2022 at 9:31 AM ^
I will NEVER understand fans that want to "get the game out of the way". I wait all year for those 3.5 - 4 hours of getting to watch Michigan football. It seems that some fans would much rather talk about football after a game than actually sit there and enjoy it.
August 11th, 2022 at 9:53 AM ^
Well, you already have to wait all week for a game. Having to wait an additional 7 hours, while other teams are playing games, can be too much. I get antsy.
Night games also screw up my sleep schedule. I can’t fall asleep right after a game is over.
August 11th, 2022 at 10:00 AM ^
I hear you, but the joyous aftermath and basking in the glow of relentless positive national attention is part of the draw of big time football.
If you break down a single day, spending all of it in terror of what's to come vs. Relaxing in victory, it makes sense
August 11th, 2022 at 10:57 AM ^
And Saturday is the only day that's all about college football. You win the big noon game and they're talking about it the rest of the day. Win the night game and well, then it's Sunday and they're on to the NFL.
August 11th, 2022 at 10:18 AM ^
So would you be OK if our game was on Sunday?
"get the game out of the way" is a weird way to put it, but I 100% understand and agree with those people because for me (middle-age, out of town), it's all about the day-of. If the game is at noon (or when I was in CA, 9AM), I don't have to wait (aka be nervous) on the day of, and the rest of the day after is free. If I want to watch other games, great. If I want to forget that NCAAF is a thing, I still have a few productive hours after 4.
I think I'm just so used to 12PM being for football that it's hard to have a regular Saturday and then plan to reserve 7:30-11(:30?!?). Like if your 9-5 was 4-12 once in a while.

I personally prefer 3.30 games, but thats because I have young kids.
Noon games I need to miss part of the 2nd quarter to put him down for a nap, and then need to be quiet after, and we can't go anywhere.
Night games I miss part of the start of the game putting him down for bed, and then need to be quiet again.
3.30 games, the kid is fresh up from a nap and ready to play. We can hang out with the neighbors and celebrate properly jumping up and down touchdowns, which my son loves.
I'm sure in a year or two my perspective will change.
August 11th, 2022 at 8:59 AM ^
Consider me highly skeptical that, in mid-August, a B1G football game scheduled for late October is already being assigned a time. Outside of the annual Noon UM-OSU game, how often does this happen? Most league game times are decided weeks, not months, ahead of time. There is also TV network implications to consider -- if FOX has the first pick on which game to broadcast that week, wouldn't they prefer this game for their Big Noon Kickoff?
August 11th, 2022 at 9:26 AM ^
Playing a rival at home, at night, with 100K+ tuned up fans.....whats the problem here?
August 11th, 2022 at 9:44 AM ^
nothing in my eyes

My friends and I go to AA once a year and actually try to pick a night game. Don't have to wake up at the ass crack of dawn to get to AA. Roll into town around noon, walk around the campus, go to the bars, get back to the tailgate a couple hours before the game. Game atmosphere is awesome. Then get a hotel near AA after. A better all around experience in my opinion.
August 11th, 2022 at 10:31 AM ^
I don't mind night games against anybody (except OSU...) but any after mid-Oct should just be banned. Too many times during that time of the year it is in the 30s. With the rules that LAZ and the AAFD are laying down this year will make day-long tailgating in those temps difficult.
Sure could just not tailgate but that is more fun more times than the game itself.

Good, beat their ass in primetime!

If "Detroit Sports Nation" says so, it must be true.

*Is hit by the memory of being soaking wet from rain. So much rain that my rain gear did nothing. Drenched from head to toe as if I had just leapt into a pool fully clothed before climbing out and taking my seat in Sec. 7. Walking back to the car soaked and silent. Riding home soaked and silent. Just the cold and the wet.*

Sparty fans are like a hornet nest. If you stomp it fast and hard enough they wont make it out.
August 11th, 2022 at 12:00 PM ^
Well, we've already done this in 2017. Now, we just need to do it in something not at all like a swirling torrent of driving, miserable rain. Oh, and win it, unlike 2017.

Someone should make a documentary on how badly the spartan fans trash the pioneer parking lot before and after the night game.
It could be a woodstock 99 piece. Spartans fans playing the role of eastern seaboard rioting Korn fans.
just an idea. Someone should get footage though. There is no dumpster in the world that can contain them.
