Rumor: Gattis Could be out as OC at Miami
- Has not been on campus lately to host recruits
- Miami QB coach left the team on Sunday, to take his old job as the OC of App. State. Thoughts are he had been passed over for the OC role for someone new.
- Rumors are Gattis has been interviewing at Iowa and could retake his old WR coach role at PSU
- Mike Ryan from the LeBatard Show and Canes insider, teased a change to the OC role could be coming on today's podcast.

That’s where I’m at on his time here. 2019 was his first year and we tried the speed in space thing. 2020 hit and was jacked up altogether. 2021 was his first successful year but it looked way different than 2019 and appeared to have a ton of Harbaugh influence. I don’t think there is anything special to him but usually you give a guy a few years at least to get his players and his system in. It’s then that you find out whether he is worth anything or not.

He coached moms on positions apparently
January 17th, 2023 at 1:38 PM ^
Is this supposed to be a surprise, or something? His offense was a legit dumpster fire last year...
January 17th, 2023 at 1:38 PM ^
Isn't recruiting? Maybe he just banged another kid's mom?
January 17th, 2023 at 1:42 PM ^
MILF fetish gone wild.
January 17th, 2023 at 1:51 PM ^
That wasn’t the only thing he was into at Michigan….
January 17th, 2023 at 1:58 PM ^
Oh, do tell!
January 17th, 2023 at 2:16 PM ^
yea, i'm just here for the gattis gossip
January 17th, 2023 at 2:21 PM ^
Midgets? Bearded ladies? If you don't tell us we'll just start filling the void, Gattis-style.
January 17th, 2023 at 3:01 PM ^
Lol nothing too sordid. But I have it on very good authority he was dating multiple coeds during his time in AA. As in multiple at the same time.
January 17th, 2023 at 3:18 PM ^
He also went through an ugly divorce while in AA.
January 17th, 2023 at 3:20 PM ^
Yeah I think that sort of behavior wouldn't be tolerated by most wives, ugly or not. /s
January 17th, 2023 at 3:41 PM ^
Guess he won’t be getting rehired by Franklin then.
January 17th, 2023 at 3:46 PM ^
wonder if there was any correlation
January 17th, 2023 at 1:43 PM ^
PSU is where he belongs... he and frames Janklin have similar philosophies.... Frames only hires coaches with hot wives/girlfriends and Gattis only recruits players with hot moms.
January 17th, 2023 at 1:47 PM ^
Frankly shocked he wasn't fired the second the season was over. It's not like anyone was committed there for the staff.
January 17th, 2023 at 2:04 PM ^
yeah, I thought it was a done deal
January 17th, 2023 at 1:48 PM ^
He was a pretty good WR coach, and there was a noticeable drop this year in development.
Pretty "C-level" OC though.
January 17th, 2023 at 2:39 PM ^
Correction: He was an excellent WR coach at both PSU and Bama (not just pretty good).
C Level OC seems right - maybe generous. Peter Principal in spades. We did not get his full (valuable) attention coaching our receivers, and had to accept his mediocre coordinating.
In 2021 it was painful to watch how unhappy he was in the booth as we called so many running plays.
January 17th, 2023 at 2:51 PM ^
"In 2021 it was painful to watch how unhappy he was in the booth as we called so many running plays."
This is why I've been convinced (along with several thousand other M fans) that the offense was largely taken out of his hands. The midseason switch from 'Speed in Space' to heavy run packages (ie: Harbaughffense plays) in 2019 was telling. 2020... The 2021 offense was very Harbaughffense-ish - so much so that nobody that could spell 'Speed in Space' recognized any part of it.
I do think he had some great concepts and ideas on how to integrate passes into Harbaugh's run-based scheme. But nobody on staff wanted to deal with it (as confirmed by the Athletic article about Poggi), or with him. Was that because of his personality, or they just wanted to run, then run, and then run again?
January 17th, 2023 at 3:00 PM ^
I don’t even buy that he’s an excellent receivers coach vs got to coach some excellent receivers.
Miami’s WRs and passing game regressed greatly this year. Michigan’s WRs consistently under performed while he was here. Bama’s were great but he was there for one season and those players were also great pre- and post-Gattis.
January 17th, 2023 at 1:52 PM ^
Hilarious.
January 17th, 2023 at 1:56 PM ^
“Could.”
Miami’s offense was horrifically bad. Shockingly so by any standard. It was particularly surprising given 2021–even those who put the most stock in “Harbaugh really runs things” couldn’t have imagined Gattis would produce a product that inept in Miami.
The only surprise is that a move hasn’t happened sooner.
January 17th, 2023 at 1:57 PM ^
Well, the one thing we know he’s good at is WR coaching. I remember covering PSU’s WR coach before I knew who he was. Unfortunately we got him as OC.
January 17th, 2023 at 2:03 PM ^
also elite with Tight Ends.
January 17th, 2023 at 2:03 PM ^
Luckily Warde told Gattis to pound sand when he tried throwing his hat in the ring as Jim's replacement last year.
Oh wait. I'm not supposed to post anything positive about Warde. Sorry.
January 17th, 2023 at 2:35 PM ^
keep that up and you'll be warding off an angry mob.
January 17th, 2023 at 2:57 PM ^
So the bar for Warde is so low that you're celebrating him not hiring an obviously unqualified candidate that the current team couldn't stand?
January 17th, 2023 at 6:05 PM ^
"so what you're saying is..."
Ack, I really dislike when people do that. It's never an honest attempt at engaging someone. If you're going to respond, you should actually address the words he typed, not your perception of them. Or don't, and just keep doing that.
January 17th, 2023 at 2:05 PM ^
Iowa! Speed in space for the Hawkeyes!!!
January 17th, 2023 at 2:10 PM ^
That Broyles award deal looks like part of an attempt to get rid of a guy by convincing some other poor schmuck to give Gattis a promotion to HC.
January 17th, 2023 at 3:11 PM ^
*nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink*
January 17th, 2023 at 2:10 PM ^
If Gattis’ route trees developed as quickly as his job changes he would have a viable offense
January 17th, 2023 at 2:22 PM ^
Not gonna dig through the past archives, but... are we basing the scuttlebutt about Gattis schtupping recruits' moms on anything more than hearsay and rumors? I have no desire to cape for him and in fact think we're better off in his absence, but is this just one of those things where since we dislike someone he's clearly guilty of any and everything alleged about him?
January 17th, 2023 at 3:01 PM ^
Welcome to the internet.

It's tongue in cheek. This isn't a court of law.

Just keep plugging' away Josh.
January 17th, 2023 at 2:32 PM ^
fuck iowa. with each passing week, i'd like to take a shot at them at next year's B10 title game
January 17th, 2023 at 3:06 PM ^
I’m personally pulling for Iowa to go 13-2..with both losses being to UM.
12-0 matchup in Indy and 14-0 vs 13-1 in the CFP Final.
let’s all manifest it.

The Locksley/Gattis War appears to be a decisive win for Locksley
January 17th, 2023 at 2:39 PM ^
Considering Locksley's documented history through his Alabama tenure, I did not have that on my bingo card.
January 17th, 2023 at 2:46 PM ^
Yeah, that New Mexico tenure would have made this outcome very unlikely. But he is a Maryland guy so I'm sure it's a much better fit for him.
January 17th, 2023 at 3:07 PM ^
I mean…Locksley has had the HC title for a fair spell and no one has yet to give one to Gattis, so it feels like Locksley has this one sewn up until Gattis becomes an HC.
January 17th, 2023 at 3:11 PM ^
"if" Gattis becomes a HC. He's going the wrong direction these last couple of years.
January 18th, 2023 at 11:16 AM ^
Gattis could have burned bridges at Maryland, UM, Alabama and now Miami including Saban and Harbaugh. That is not a good 5 year track record. Forget that Miami is a mess on offense guy is setting his career on fire in so many ways,
January 17th, 2023 at 3:34 PM ^
If PSU (Franklin) hires Gattis ---- the war just continues. Gattis/Locksley recruiting battles.
It is a soap opera love triangle. Franklin and Locksley don't like each other. Gattis and Locksley don't like each other. Gattis and Franklin do like each other. Well, I think.
