Great find which once again exposes the complete and utter hypocrisy employed by the fans and coaches of other Big Ten schools.  It is all just an absurd joke.  CS deserves punishment and firing into the sun.  Beyond that nothing should happen to the program beyond the proverbial slap on the wrist.

Dantonio violated “civil and/or criminal laws of another state” by making or directing staff members to record a competing team’s practices “without consent and with the intent to invade their privacy.”

Maybe true. Maybe not. But at least Curtis Blackwell put his name to it. Unlike the army of gutless leakers surrounding the current frenzy.

Reasons why I havent been mad at Stalions for what he did, just the way he went about doing it so sloppily. This type of stuff is much more widespread than people want to admit.

Edit: The judge that ruled against Blackwell was Wanda Stokes. Guess what school she attended? MSU.

Michigan is currently being dragged in the court of public opinion by some of the most influential media companies. And the allegations have similarly not been formally investigated much less proven. And as others have said, at least Blackwell put his name on his statements. Unlike thamel's various "big ten coaches."

About 90% of why this is a national story is because its Michigan and its Jim Harbaugh. If this is UCLA or KState or Wake or Minnesota or someone else its a single story in a few outlets and then nothing till fairly mundane punishments are levied

The remaining 10% is mostly Jim Stapleton doing his best to screw his alma mater

IMO it's 90% because of the outside investigative firm leaking to the media instead of the NCAA handling it behind closed doors. The coordinated smear campaign is the major driving force behind this. Harbaugh and the fact we have two rival schools instead of just one crying about it certainly fuels the fire.

Old takes exposed:

This would explain MSU's knack for having the game of their lives against Michigan. A lot easier to plan the Fall Camp Drive when you know what plays are coming.

State did have a knack for beating Ohio State or giving them all they could handle in those days.  Just saying...

Double post, 27 total upvotes.

That's probably standard (and prudent) practice for coaches who are breaking or bending the rules. Assign one person to do all the shady stuff, and then if anybody finds out, label him a "rogue employee" and fire him. And then hope and pray he isn't the litigious type. Oops.

Sadly, I do not think we beat  OSU last few years even with that competitive advantage....

That one was negged 15 times.

If this is the juiciest bit that’s good news for State.

That was my comment. Negged three times.

If you're not cheatin', you're not tryin' - Mork Dumbtonio (or any Ohio State coach ever)

Cheaters....

So not only is Dantonio a sleazy, compromising scumbag, his most successful seasons are built on a foundation of blatant cheating?  I'm going to enjoy watching Sparty have to vacate their most glorious seasons of the past half century.

If there is evidence this could be devastating to the program, for a long time.  That said if Dantonio was instituting this practice, did he bring it with him from his days at Osu under Tressell?  Did he do this at UC?  How long and how much was he doing this?

just dipped my toes into the rcmb waters for the first time.  i was curious about what the reaction to this was, and potentially get some insight on it's validity.  needless to say, that place is a dumpster fire of conspiracy theories and denial.  what i gleaned from the adventure = blackwell's legal efforts are funded by the university of michigan, the recruiting pics are photoshopped, the claims of institutional racism are a big joke to them, and a dose of schadenfreude.  i'm so glad this board behaves in much more mature and thoughtful manner.  i'm a proud alumni, wolverine athletics fan, and lurker of this fine site.  go blue

This may come across as homer-ish, but to me there’s a big difference between filming games vs practice.

In my home, I have an expectation of privacy. Out in public, I don’t. A game is a public environment. A practice (unless it’s open to the public) is not.

This is bigger than the Astros, Patriots and Michigan combined. I expect the B1G to drop the hammer this very moment, no need to look any further than the article.

I didn’t follow this case closely, and seem to recall Blackwell’s attorney was throwing a lot of stuff at the wall to see if it would stick.

Stuff like taping a practice, a judge wouldn’t care about: that’s not against the law. But Blackwell is still around, running the Sound Mind Sound body camps. Why doesn’t Sam Webb or some other reporter/commentator go out there and talk to him, not about all the other legal stuff, but just the taping practices stuff and everything else? Let’s get this going.
