Report: Tom Herman to Texas is ‘all but official’

Submitted by boliver46 on

Not sure how reliable Yardbarker is, so consider the source...

but something we've all speculated on - whether Tom Herman will get a big-time job - and where will it be?

Big rumor today is that Tom Herman to #Longhorns is "all but offical." Reliable sources saying what has been suspected for awhile now.

Short and sweet as I'm heading to a meeting - but...

DISCUSS!

***EDIT - seeing more than just Yardbarker reporting it - so guessing this puppy might have some legs.***

remember when Saban to Texas was all but official. I never trust rumors about Texas, but I guess this is plausable. I'm sure the Texas players are excited at the thought of having to constantly be kissed by their coach.

Doesn't Texas still have a coach?  How are they hiring another while still having their current coach?  I mean, fire the dude before you hire his successor at least.

looking for a new coach without firing the old one is ethically right or not.  It's fine.  What you have to question is the way Texas publicly undermined Strong while he's still the coach and trying to win games.  They basically issued a no confidence pronouncement via the media a few weeks back.  I'm no Strong supporter or anything like that, but IMO, scrambling to get to the front of the line in the Herman sweepstakes while trampling over your existing coach isn't a real good look for Texas.

Despite your use of a Western icon in your avatar, I'm gonna go ahead and guess Texas gives a good fuck about your approval...

Did we or did we not begin the search for Hoke's successor (and RR's for that matter) about halfway through his final season? And fire DB in our hearts, minds and in the media as well?

When someone fails at this particular industry the search for the next answer begins loudly and publicly. I don't believe Yardbarker or whatever it is speaks for the Texas heirarchy, just relating whispers from well-heeled boosters.

My wife's boss is a UH alum with inside connections and the football team is internally going through a tough time right now. One of their players punched another player during practice, busting an eyesocket and now theyre both out. Moral is down, partly because of all the Herman leaving rumors. Explains why they lost to SMU so bad.

...is whether Todd Orlando will be following him to Austin, or if another big time program tries to poach him. I think alum96 did profiles of DC candidates last year - Orlando and Pete Kwiatowski (the DC at Washington) really stood out.

I personally think Herman (if he brings Orlando) is going to kill it at UT - the young team of freshman and sophomores this year is a year older and Charlie Strong, even if he couldn't put together a defense to stop Big 12 teams, could recruit.

but Oregon has to be making a move, right? I mean, Helfrich looks like the ultimate example of a captain of a sinking ship. Will be interesting to see which spread zealot they hire -- probably too early to bring Todd back to Eugene after only one year at UCF, but his team has (predictably) been way more competetive this year.  I would be interested to see what a guy like D. Mullen could do at Oregon, and it seems like only a matter of time before Larry Fedora leaves UNC - he is rumored for a step-up job almost every year.

Not the least bit surprising.

Houston probably isn't going to make a NY6 bowl at this point, much less the playoff. There's no reason for him to really beat around the bush anymore.

He gone.
