Recent Jace Howard Crystal Ball Activity
https://247sports.com/Season/2020-Basketball/TargetPredictions/
Sam Webb put in a crystal ball yesterday and Josh Newkirk put in a crystal ball today for Jace Howard to Michigan. While we've known that Jace was probably going to Michigan for a while, I find these 2 crystal balls interesting due to the recent developments of Josh Christopher getting a futurecast from Corey Evans, Greg Brown planning to take a visit, and the amount of open scholarships we have being dubious. Perhaps Jace is planning on committing soon? And will he take a scholarship?

I'll never understand people who just put these clickbait titles
January 4th, 2020 at 5:37 PM ^
Board titles aren't supposed to be tweets and it's not clickbait, it's literally what the post is discussing. Next time I'll just write my entire post in the title because you're too lazy to click
January 4th, 2020 at 5:40 PM ^
Here's an example to help:
Bad:
Title: njvictor
Post: Is bad at making titles
Better:
Title: njvictor is bad at making titles
Post: The title offers no insight. It's clickbait.
January 4th, 2020 at 5:45 PM ^
Wow, you really got me there. The title literally says that there has been recent crystall ball activity regarding Jace Howard, then I discuss why that's significant. Sorry, next time my post title will have a link and 6 lines of text just to satisfy you
January 4th, 2020 at 5:51 PM ^
Just add "to UM" to the title so it doesn't read like click bait.
January 4th, 2020 at 5:54 PM ^
I think a better title would have been "Recent Jace Howard Crystal Ball activity to Michigan". I think your explanation of why that's significant is good. But the title itself doesn't really tell us where the crystal ball activity is going.

These posts are so Michigan... it isn’t perfect so I need to take time out of my miserable existence to complain.... it is every thread... just get rid of the dumb message board at this point and replace it with a twitter thread about why we are so insecure
January 5th, 2020 at 8:23 AM ^
Holy Shit to his is spot on. Every fucking thread pompous assholes complain about the title or a misspelled word or using or twice instead of a fucking comma. Shut the board down.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:20 PM ^
Is this worth complaining about or nitpicking?
I don't think I can create a poll, but I say it's nitpicking. People can downvote me if they disagree.
I save my complaints for the far worse thread titles that are so common around here. It was a perfectly good OP. Are we really trying to discourage people from creating useful content just because it wasn't exactly what we wanted? That it doesn't meet some standard that I'd be hard pressed to say any media site meets?
I go back to the old guidance. Justin Feagin is a bad thread title. This was nothing like that.
January 5th, 2020 at 9:28 AM ^
Fuck ron burgundy. You can't please everyone. Nothing wrong with your title. You'd have to have your head in the sand if you didn't know what that title was talking about.
January 4th, 2020 at 9:38 PM ^
This applies to you and all that aren’t agreeing with you but are giving title advise. What the fuck is wrong with you people? Holy shit, just fucking have a discussion about the topic. Do you people have in person conversations like this? I hate most of you.
January 4th, 2020 at 10:51 PM ^
And and but but you never mention that Jace Howard is related to Juwan Howard. Or what position he plays. Or his zodiac sign. Just disregard for attention to detail.
January 4th, 2020 at 6:19 PM ^
I have no idea what the obsession is with titles. If the title isnt good enough for you, you post it then. Stop making this board miserable to read because we have to scroll through all the butt hurt people that didnt get exactly what they wanted instantly.
January 4th, 2020 at 8:32 PM ^
People being butthurt about titles when they find out it's about something other than what they thought 2s ago is really stupid. That said when I read the title I assumed it was crystal balls to somewhere other than michigan.
January 4th, 2020 at 9:51 PM ^
Preach on, my friend. I miss a lot of info because of lazy, played out jokes (that were never funny) and title composing because I give up and stop scrolling.
January 4th, 2020 at 5:34 PM ^
Does anyone know the rules on if he can be a walk on? Don’t family of employees get free/discounted tuition anyway?
January 4th, 2020 at 5:36 PM ^
He can, but walk-ons don’t get the same
scholarship athlete treatment
January 4th, 2020 at 5:39 PM ^
Wtf does that mean? They don't get treated the same as scholarship players? Are you nuts?
January 4th, 2020 at 5:41 PM ^
He's right. Walk ons don't get the same treatment in terms of practice time, coaching, weight training, and other privileges I believe
January 4th, 2020 at 5:49 PM ^
They do if the coach says so.
January 4th, 2020 at 6:11 PM ^
Walk ons generally are not mid manor caliber players, and the son of the coach. Something tells me Howard would have every chance to succeed, even as a walk-on.
January 4th, 2020 at 6:13 PM ^
Other than practice time, I'd assume everything else could be offset by the fact that your Dad coaches the team, lives in town, and has a net worth of $80MM.
January 4th, 2020 at 5:51 PM ^
What he said is true
January 4th, 2020 at 5:59 PM ^
He can not walk on, he took an official visit.
January 4th, 2020 at 6:19 PM ^
Based on what rule? I’ve looked for it and haven’t found anything. That seems like a ridiculous rule, and I doubt it exists.
January 4th, 2020 at 6:34 PM ^
This isn't true...none of this is true.
Walk-ons don't get ANYthing less than scholarship players except money.
They don't get the free education and I don't believe they get the same stipends (meal money that players use on clothes and apple products). Practice time and all of that has nothing to do with NCAA rules.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:27 PM ^
Prove it.
January 4th, 2020 at 6:38 PM ^
Employees at UM in Ann Arbor get discounted tuition for themselves, but not for family members.
That's atypical for universities, but the NCAA doesn't allow it for walkons anyway if the parent was recently hired.
January 4th, 2020 at 5:47 PM ^
Update: Jace Howard just tweeted this
January 4th, 2020 at 5:47 PM ^
Before anyone else posts on this:
I keep hearing that walk-on status is no longer available once someone has taken an official visit. Sounds like bullshit, but I don't know any better. I couldn't find anything reasonable-looking on a quick search. If anyone could link to an authoritative reference I'd be much obliged.
January 4th, 2020 at 5:52 PM ^
People keep bringing it up, but I also think that some analyst or someone on twitter would've addressed and confirmed that by now if he couldn't walk on
January 4th, 2020 at 6:30 PM ^
I’ve never heard of such a thing either until people on this board have brought it up. There is such a term as “Recruited Walk-On”, which leads me to believe you could take an official visit and still walk on. All walk-on means is that there is no financial obligations by the school. The only thing remotely close would be in communication between the coaches and the prospect of being honest and saying don’t waste one of YOUR official visits here if you are looking for a scholly....We want you, but can’t pay for you.
January 4th, 2020 at 6:56 PM ^
Yeah I don't know why people keep saying that. You can't "blueshirt" after taking an official but blueshirting is a football exclusive activity designed to work around the annual limit of 25 guys. I googled this and there is absolutely no mention of this being a real thing.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:02 PM ^
Brian,
Would now be a good time to talk about the problems with this website?
I love mgo and would like to help make it greater than it already is.
Love,
Darker Blue
January 4th, 2020 at 9:24 PM ^
Brian, thanks for clearing that up. However, I will bet you a beverage of your choice that someone will post that fake news on here again, probably within a week.
January 5th, 2020 at 5:32 PM ^
I work in the recruiting industry for a different sport and this is completely false for that sport. Official visits do not preclude someone from walking on and it happens quite often in the sport I deal with. I would be very surprised if basketball was any different.
Also, walk-ons get the same perks as athletes outside of scholarships and stipends. They get full access to trainers, use of the facilities, practice time, etc.
January 4th, 2020 at 5:52 PM ^
Right now we are full with no attrition. I don’t think we can take Jace as a scholarship player unless someone transfers, goes to NBA, or decommits.
These are the pieces on the board, in my opinion:
- Austin Davis (grad transfer?)
- Adrien Nunez (transfer?)
- Cole Bajema (transfer?) I sure hope not.
- Isaiah Livers (NBA?)
- Terrance Williams (committed, not yet signed)
- Isaiah Todd (committed, not yet signed)
- Hunter Dickinson (committed, not yet signed)
- Josh Cristopher (potential commit)
- Jace Howard (potential commit, possible walk on)
- Greg Brown (potential commit)
We ultimately need the number of guys leaving/decommitting to equal the new commits. I don’t really expect any decommitments, but Todd wouldn’t be surprising at this point.
January 4th, 2020 at 6:12 PM ^
Why would Todd not be surprising ? Someone fill me in on this negative Todd info. Everything I have seen reported says he is very likely to attend uofm. His coach just said it was basically a certainty.
January 4th, 2020 at 6:20 PM ^
Because he had an opportunity to sign and didn’t...
January 4th, 2020 at 6:36 PM ^
BPONE
January 4th, 2020 at 6:48 PM ^
Because Todd himself said so recently. He basically said he would do what his mother wanted between going to college or a pro league. She's generally thought to be leaning towards him playing overseas. He says he would like to play at Michigan. No one knows how it will turn out.
January 4th, 2020 at 6:50 PM ^
We're only using 11 of our available 13 scholarships: DeJulius, Simpson, Teske, Livers, Nunez, Wagner, Bajema, Brooks, Johns, Castleton, Davis.
Simpson and Teske graduate are both out of eligibility, so they're gone. Davis graduates so we can tell him to transfer if need be. That's five available scholarships. We have four hard commit currently, so that leaves one more scholarship available given no attrition.
Recruiting three guys for one spot seems reasonable to me. Especially when two of them are five stars with a bunch of other suitors.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:04 PM ^
Greyshirts? This excites me in a primal way.
January 4th, 2020 at 7:17 PM ^
My assumption is that Davis grad transfers, Nunez transfers, and if we get Christopher, then Jace Howard walks on, and if we don't get Christopher then Howard is on scholarship. If Todd goes overseas, then both are on scholarship. Greg Brown seems like an unlikely get
January 4th, 2020 at 9:29 PM ^
You should recheck your math.
January 4th, 2020 at 8:51 PM ^
I really wish people would stop worrying about open scholarships in both football and basketball. Football has 6 or 7 more incoming kids than they have spots and yet fans on the board freak out every time a player transfers, goes pro, doesn't sign his LOI or just quits. You don't think the coaches know where these spots are going to go? Unless you are on the team or inside the athletic dept just sit back and watch it happen. It always works out.
January 4th, 2020 at 5:57 PM ^
If they do somehow land the dream class that is still possible, he could just walk on for a year (assuming he's allowed to) and then go on scholarship after that. Basically a PWO.
January 4th, 2020 at 6:36 PM ^
I'd love to have him as a walk-on. Not sure I'd use a scholarship on him, though.
January 4th, 2020 at 6:38 PM ^
Was kind of thinking he was going to wait until April or so to make his decision, that would've allowed for Todd, Christopher and Brown to make theirs and let the chips fall after that. We are limited on scholarships and have a lot of big fish biting right now. Itll be interesting to see how it plays out.
January 4th, 2020 at 6:52 PM ^
The timing of Howard deciding soon makes me think he’s going to walk on. I would think they’d want to leave as many scholarships open (I know, there aren’t really any open right now) as possible with the big time recruits Juwan is still going after. Of course the deeply BPONE’D side of me says this means more towards how Juwan feels about getting Christopher or hanging on to Todd.
