Questions that don’t all need their own thread

Hey Mgrowold, don’t blame me as I have done my part so far without making a single new thread since the game. With that being said, I have some questions I need the expert opinions of Mgobloggers on. Answer all, answer some, mock me..do whatever.

1. Health of Corum. I like the idea of having speed to punish a team that is fundamentally sound like Iowa and don’t like the idea of trying to bludgeon them. A player like Blake I think is needed to make an explosive play or two. He did that in the OSU game, but is obviously still gimpy. Will one more week make a difference or do you think he won’t be 100 pct until the bowl season?

2. In your OPINION who will be starting at QB for UM as we open 2022 season?

3. Who are your top 3 favorite UM players of all time? Mine are 1. Woodson 2. Hutch 3. Hart.
What Hutchinson has done this year is legendary and hopefully his play and leadership  will be remembered as being part of a turning point for UM football.

4. Basketball now. What is your OPINION on who should be the starting 5/rotation moving forward to give us the best chance for success?

5. And finally: Does winning The Game mean more to you than the actual Big Ten Title? You have to stretch a little because you more often than not can not win the Big Ten title without beating OSU. But, if you had to choose between beating Iowa Saturday and winning next year in Columbus, how would you vote? Personally I would rather win Saturday, but I know there are many that have beating OSU as their singular focus and everything else is secondary.

1. With Corum coming back into the game after his long run, he should be good for 6-8 carries or more on Saturday.

2. Cade. I think JJ is even more involved in 2022, maybe twice as many snaps. I think in 2023 JJ takes over. Cade will graduate and can either go pro or transfer at that point.

3.

1. Woodson

2. Hart,

3. Braylon,

4. Denard,

5. Hutch,

6. Desmond

7. Wheatley.

My boys names are Desmond and Braylon.

4.

1- Brooks / Collins 30/10

2- Bufkin / Zeb 20/20 until someone wins.

3- Houstan / Williams 34/6

4- Diabate / Williams 34/6

5- Dickinson / Johns 34/6

5. Equal, but BT title if I had to choose. That likely will never happen wo a win over Osu though, so it's hand in hand

Two additional questions, if this is the questions thread:

Ohio State's first kickoff return... the return man signals a fair catch, but because he does not actually make the catch, the ball is not a fair catch and does not get advanced to the 25. That said, the referees do blow the play dead. Because the ball was not caught, it's not a fair catch, should the OSU player been able to advance the kick? Or is the rule that it's dead either way, but he has to catch the ball in the air to get the 25?

Does Trente Jones have two jerseys?  He wears 53 normally, that's what his roster number is, but he also comes out in a #80 at times with no nameplate. How does this work?  Will he wear both in the same gam, is that even legal?

You cannot advance the ball after a fair catch, so when you gain control of the ball the play is blown dead. On the kick off when you don't catch it in the air, you also do not get the automatic touch back, it is a quirk in the rules.

On Trente Jones, when he switches numbers he has to enter the game and tell the umpire that he has switched jerseys, who then announces it over his speaker, number 80 is now wearing number 53. Harbaugh has almost always had an extra oline player wear an eligible number so he doesn't have to check in every play to be an extra te.

0. These questions didn't need their own thread. But I'll play along instead of do actual work...

1. No idea

2. JJ with Cade transferring

3. 1) Woodson 1a) Tai Streets 2) Denard 3) Braylon

4. Turned the game off about 2 minutes into the second half. We're a football school again...so no opinion.

5. The Game was the most important victory in seemingly forever. I'll be mad if we lose to Iowa, but I'll get over it. The question also makes no sense...you can't get to the B1G title game without beating OSU.

Here is my question that doesn't need it's own thread: Ohio State just got a commitment from another Top 100 quarterback (2022); are they just collecting them at this point so that no one else can have one?

1. Corum has been testing his ankle regularly, and he came back in after limping a bit after the long run, so I think the week does him well. Watch out if we make the playoff, though.

2. In my opinion: I think it's even chances, but if I had to guess I'd guess that Cade edges JJ just based on his mastery of the offense. He makes excellent decisions consistently, and he has excellent pocket composure.

But JJ can absolutely close the gap; if he can get anywhere close to Cade's game precision, his arm will carry the rest. A lot to happen between now and then, though, and it's possible that Gattis moves on and if so the replacement may make a difference.

3. Woodson, Desmond, Brady, in some order. And I'll say that I loved Brady before he became big in the NFL--his comebacks against PSU and Bama were legend. Where does Hutch fit here?

Well, he has 2-3 games to make his case.

4. I honestly have no idea. Collins/Brooks/Houstan/Diabate/Dickinson might be our best five guys, but you've only got two shooters there, and that's a problem. I'm not ready to write off Jones yet, either. I think we need to see someone like Bufkin elbow their way into the rotation, or Johns to finally click.

5. To part one: Absolutely. I'll trade beating OSU in a high-stakes game for any other result in any other sport, including national titles.

But the hypothetical you pose is a bit trickier because of absent context: We've already beaten Ohio State, so what this is really a question about is how meaningful this Ohio State win is (a win on the way to a playoff berth, vs a win next year with indeterminate stakes).

Let's take 97 and 98: Michigan beats OSU in 97 and wins the national title. They lose in 98 to an excellent OSU team that got left out of the BCS (hahahaha!). Would I rather have two wins against OSU where neither put Michigan on a path to a title opportunity (let's suppose that Michigan had lost to Iowa and Penn State in '97, so we beat OSU but no title), or would I rather win one that does? Because there is a win over OSU on the table here. In that case, I take the 97/98 split every time.

2004 is a good example here: We won the B1G. Our most recent conference title, incidentally. We also lost to Ohio State at the Shoe. Would I trade one for the other?

You ask OSU fans that: I'd take the trade, though it's also worth noting that Michigan lost narrowly in the Rose Bowl to Vince Young's Texas, so that colors my opinion a bit.
