PTI guys say ESS-EEE-CEE is afraid of Harbaugh
First time posting, so sorry for any formatting issues, or if Kornheiser is banned from this site. (I did a search, and the last post I could find about him in particular was from Feb 2010).
I personally think that Kornheiser and Wilbon are somewhat intelligent guys who are forced to know a little about a lot(Wilbon thinks that Michigan football is the only sports team that has practice/games over spring break) and say a lot of things that they don't truly believe sometimes to drive conversation. However, I thought this was interesting for one main reason:
ESPN controls a lot of the narrative that goes out about players, coaches, schools, programs, etc... The fact that Kornheiser and Wilbon both say that the SEC is trying to get a rule changed by the NCAA because they are SCARED, on one of the most popular shows on the SEC loving ESPN nonetheless, has to be huge for public opinion on the spring practices at IMG and HARBAUGH, of course.
http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=14755770
For those who don't want to watch the two minute video, here is a quote that sums it up:
Kornheiser: "Everybody in college football is afraid of Jim Harbaugh because Jim Harbaugh is loud about this."
Wilbon's Response: "I agree."

I ask because if he was for it, then I can't understand how he can cry for the student's best interest while extending their season into the new semester and play on a Monday (school) night.

The Championship game even and from the same division. Best part was SEC coaches in the coaches polls downgrading OK. St. and Stanford to maintain that little monopoly.

Glorified intra-divisional matchup. No national champion for that year.

They had no QB, which isn't a surprise with Les Miles' LSU teams. Any of the BCS teams that year could've beaten them.

I have a good friend who somehow ended up a Spartan fan. He has stopped mentioning Harbaugh to me other than when Harbaugh yawns and it becomes national news.

my barber in the lansing area tells me the Sparty fans are constantly complaining about harbaugh. They complain more about harbaugh then how much they celebrate their b1g championship.

was when people were feeling sorry for us. In sports, Hate>Pity.

You shut your whore mouth!
(Put another way, this analogy falls apart when you take into account that (a) Coach K is a duplicitous asshole while Coach Harbaugh is a "can find nary a fuck to give / I do what I want" guy, and (b) while our student body could stand some diversity, the douche quotient is nowhere near Duke's. So, yeah - we may be hated, but for different reasons.)
February 11th, 2016 at 10:48 AM ^
Meh, I want to be hated for the real reason Duke and Alabama and the Patriots are hated . . . they win too much.
Every team that wins too much is hated. The reasons for hating them are just rationalizations. They are hated because they win too much.
Sign me up.

have his rejection letter from Michigan. . .
they always keep them.

Kornheiser: Everybody in college football is afraid of Jim Harbaugh because Jim Harbaugh is loud about this.
Wilbon: I agree.
Kornheiser: Alright. Interesting news on the Peyton Manning retirement front. Personally, I think that he'd be crazy to come back, but sometimes, people do crazy things. He's the type of guy that gets to pick when it's his time, he's earned that.
Wilbon: I agree.
Kornheiser: Where do you think the Broncos will go from here?
Wilbon: I agree.
Kornheiser: Do you have anything to add, Mike? Are you even paying attention any more?
Wilbon: I agree.
Kornheiser: I'm of the belief that the melting point of sea cucumbers presents a risk not only to mom and pop businesses, but also to the sarcophagus, cucumber, and silkworm industries. It will be interesting to see the effect that it has on rubber gloves and their families. She's in my prayers.
Wilbon: I agree.

who will protect the children?
February 11th, 2016 at 8:18 AM ^
Excellent article that summarizes the hypocrisy of the SEC:
Oh, lookie here, the SEC wants what's best for the kids!
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey whined to the NCAA about Jim Harbaugh's plan to take his merry band of Michigan Wolverines to Florida for a week of spring practice. Those players should have a proper spring break! cried Sankey and the SEC. It would be so patently unfair for the Michigan players to have a week in the sun and warmth of Tampa instead of freezing their toes off up in Ann Arbor.
But this reaction surprised no one. For the SEC's unofficial motto has always been "rules for thee, but not for me."

based on nothing more than the game this season. How did Mike do in his first season in resurrecting a program, ableit slack is given when the progam, for the past fifty years, has been, well horse fuck. But Urb is aware that Jim' team's will get better. I don't think they have reason to fear, because let's be honest, Urb has been in the business for awhile and he is among the best there's ever been - is it o.k to give credit where it's due, right? - but he knows going forward, UM will be a much tougher out and w/in a few years, the games could very well come down to a coin flip. I want OSU's best; Stay healthy Urb.
February 11th, 2016 at 8:20 AM ^
You want osu's best. I just want to curb stomp them ala American History X. Do you really think they give a fuck that during this stretch they beat the shit out of RR and Hoke? Great if he stays, great if goes...just beat them mericlessly. Fuck him and fuck them.
February 11th, 2016 at 9:42 AM ^
But there is some that want to beat Michigan's best. They still want to win, but I'm sure they are way more excited about the win in 2006 than the win in 2008. I know it was great when Michigan beat their top teams in the 90s.

February 11th, 2016 at 2:16 AM ^
Wilbon has bought into the lie that the trip to Florida will eliminate one of the four mandatory weeks during the year that there must be no required FB activities. Not that he's alone at ESPN, three of the DBags on the show before their's said the same thing.
February 11th, 2016 at 6:00 AM ^
Yes, if spring break should be preserved then ESPN should feel the same about Christmas break when most players are in bowl practice.
February 11th, 2016 at 7:35 AM ^
Wilbon has butt hurt about Harbaugh because he is a Ball State alum, as is Brady Hoke, and is pissed that Michigan fired Hoke.

a surprisingly similar something about them?

Wilbon is actually a Northwestern alum and on their Board of Trustees: http://espnmediazone.com/us/bios/wilbon_michael/
You're probably thinking of Jason Whitlock - the other talking head - who is a former Ball State football player and Hoke apologist.
