At this point we have to root for Patterson in the “epic” QB battle...Right?

Submitted by TheTeamTheTeam… on
Like many of you I am frustrated, angry and down right baffled at the ineptitude of the Offense of this team...I can remember more red zone turnovers than touchdowns. Searching for answers I think it’s easy to hit the Fire Coach X button...and I for one am squarely on the fire drevno wagon, but more than anything we need a QB that knows the situation in the game. Peters fires into double coverage late in the game (first pick in the 4th qtr) sinking what seems like all hope of a comeback, then hesitates and slides a yard short of the first down killing time and more hope, then to cap it all off he had worse accuracy than J.T. freaking Barrett throwing down field and ends the game with a second 4th qtr Int. All my eggs are in the Shea Patterson basket at this point. What say you, Mgoblog

Something is extremely dysfunctional, whether route running and/or play design, or just not throwing guys open, or anticipating routes.  The O-line actually gave Peters more than 3-4 seconds per play today which should be plenty to find a receiver more than 10 yards down field...yet how many passes were completed for more than 10 yds?   Michigan needs to employ a Reverse Bonus structure for their coaching staff.  That was horrendous and can't be entirely pinned upon 20 year olds.

It won't matter what QB plays if the play calling is the same. Predictable calls, short passes, and basic run formations. It's obvious that Jed Fisch is the only reason we had any offensive success over the last 3 years.

This is what I posted after Peters first game:

Peters did a decent job and clearly has some skills. . .but perhaps the reason it took so long for Harbaugh to throw him out there is he looks a little soft.  Never seen a QB slide BEHIND the line of scrimmage before.  O'Korn and even Speight would have tried to make a few yards on that play.

Ha!  He did it again, this time with the game on the line. . .would not even try for the critical first down, took a knee instead of fight for the yard or two his team needed.  I'll probably get tons of crap for posting this, but I guarantee you his teammates and coaches took note of his *disinclination* for that critical first down.  Peters is not what I would call an inspiring leader.

This OL had Peters on the ground or scrambling for most of the game, including one of his INTs. I actually think he made some solid decisions under pressure, and that he may very well win the QB competition.

No matter who wins it, however, I don't see any Goddamned hope for Michigan next season. This performance came after bowl practices, and you just don't see improvement. South Carolina's DL wasn't known for pressure. It was supposed to be merely average. How this OL got whipped so consistently is ridiculous.

He was under pressure because he hesitates on almost every read and throw. I’ve never seen a QB continually hesitate like Peters. In college not every throw is going to be wide open. The QB is going to have to make some throws and the receivers are going to have to make some plays.

How is it all these other teams can start true freshman qbs or redshirted freshman qbs and win. Georgia true freshman, bama true freshman last year.

Either him or McCaffrey. Peters doesn't seem to have it. No feel in the pocket, very inaccurate and not mentally strong. How do you slide short of the first down in that situation late in the game? That was horrible effort.

decisions. The fumble against Wisconsin inside the 5. The interception today inside the 5. The slide when he could have had the first down. The Pick at the end on 4 and 1 throwing it all the way across the field. Just brutal.

The problem is deeper than QB. Watch the bottom line on ESPN previewing the NFL draft picks for bowl teams. Who does Michigan have? This year Cole and Hurst. Where's the All Big 10 linemen and WRs? I like Higdon, but he's a solid back up on good teams. Evans is good in space, but hats not how utilize him. The WRs are so young. It appears are go to player is McKeon?

Peters played himself out of a starting or even back-up position today. Poor progressions, locking on, bad throws, risky throw-aways, and running short of the 1st down line. I saw nothing I liked from him today. He looked lost. He looked like he regressed. His momentum is negative.

No one HAS to root for anyone in the upcoming QB battle.  Why do you think we "have to" root for someone??  I'm rooting for the best player to win.  I don't care who it is, just as long as they are the best man for the job.  Brandon, Shea, Dylan, even if its Joe Milton or Kevin Doyle, I don't care.  Whoever wins must be good enough to get this team where it should be, which is in the Playoff.  This defense and the skill position players are going to be good enough to get them there, its up to the QB and offensive line to catch up.

McCaffrey throws one of the best balls I have seen. Perfect spirals - with a quick release. He has plus athleticism too. I think he could win the job.

Its a good thing Michigan Football has no real impact on my life.  It is meaningless and still causes me pain.  Bottom line is there has been no killer instinct associated with this program since the 90s.  Playing not to lose never wins championships and yet that is what Michigan has become for the last 20 years.  Was as hopeful as anyone that Harbaugh would break that mentality...has yet to happen and games like today make it painfully evident it is alive and well.

Peters showed he's nothing more than an extension of 2017 Speight and O'Korn. At what point is the blame on the people responsible for developing these QBs and not the actual players themselves.

2008 Threet vs 2017 3QB "System"

2008; 3-9

102-200 51% completion for 1105 yards

9TD, 7INT

2017 Korn, Speight, Peters; 8-4 8-5 whatever who cares

184-345 53% completion 2209 yards

9TD 10INT

For me personally 2008 was the worst offensive M team, at least the way I felt watching, but now this year is the Champion of Worstness declared by me

Is anyone else who has watched Shea Patterson's film not that impressed? I wanted to like him but he just seemed lost and too prone to improv. He's probbaly our best option at QB but not sure he's the answer either.
