The only negative I can think of off the top of my head - which is swimming in giddiness right now -  is they need to do something about telegraphing the screen passes and some of the run plays. Also, bogging down in the red zone. They convert in the first half and we're back to comparing the 2nd half performance of the back up quarterbacks.

Running for over 400 yards against that defense is really good. Penn State Knew what they were going to do, and they couldn’t stop it anyway. Very reminiscent of the OSU game last year.

I mean, yeah, I’d like to see more opportunities generated in the passing game, but if the running game is working at this high of a level, why go away from it?

Just absolute domination. That was a 55-3 type of game that was only close because of 3 things: (1) Sean Clifford 50+ yard scramble, (2) JJ pick 6, (3) too much settling for FGs in the red zone.

Oddly enough this was arguably the worst game JJ played this year. He wasn’t BAD mind you, but he missed a couple easy screen passes that he normally doesn’t, and the pick 6 was just a bad throw right at the defenders helmet on a busted play. But the best part was IT DIDNT EVEN MATTER A LITTLE BIT. And JJ played decently otherwise, he had a few effective 3rd down scrambles himself.

I don’t know what PSU’s defensive strategy was, but it was pretty terrible in the 2nd half. They’re going to regret Manny Diaz as Dc, I don’t think he’s a good coach.

Midway into Q2 I was expecting 14-13 at half and not even concerned about that situation with the OL pounding on PSU. PSU was only in the game because of 2 fluke plays and too many UM FGs.. The coaches had the right plan and prepared the team to execute the pounding. Well done.

It's almost hard to remember how disorganized the early Harbaugh UM offenses were. We had major issues with simple things like getting plays in on time and playing with any sort of tempo. It's amazing how much more fluid, organized, almost machine-like that this offense has become.

They do have a tendency to be one dimensional, but when your dimension is this dominant, you're crazy not to use it

Shame on anyone who ever said Franklin is a better coach than JH - that was an absolute coaching mismatch.

Beautiful game plan. First couple of drives we had PSU completely off-balance, inside/outside/pass/run - they had no idea what was coming. Surgical.

Then, once we'd worn them down, we crushed them into a fine powder.

Defensively, they were brilliant. Franklin's game plan was so basic, so boring - just horrible.

Every four or five years, Michigan plays a near-perfect game against a highly ranked opponent - this was one of those games.  A couple of things go our way and we win that game by 70.

Player development - off the charts.

This is a truly fine team, truly well coached. Welcome back Coach Hart!

As many have already mentioned, huge credit to Sherrone Moore. What an incredible job he has done with this group.

Great to see Mike Hart back on the sideline - hopefully means the seizure wasn't too serious long term.

One nitpick: this wide receiver screen has been downloaded by the opposition... if they use it, it should be used as a misdirection play going forward, otherwise teams will try to jump it...

great game; the score was not indicative of the beatdown it was.

Guys, I have it on good authority from that article that James Franklin is a "hands down better coach" than Harbaugh.

Please ignore that Harbaugh has succeeded at a small college, two big colleges, and in the NFL, because Franklin can't say that. Heck neither can Saban or Meyer.

Also please ignore that Harbaugh is 5-3 head to head with Franklin and it is 5-2 if you toss out the fluke covid year.

These guys are coaching the players in front of them to the schedule they have. I think I understand some of the play calls vs. Indiana looking at this game. There's going to be an interesting game against Illinois.

I'm not worried.

Good job coaches! No issues, whatsoever. I would be looking at our coordinators to move on next season.  They deserve it.

Absolutely beautiful game.

Re: your comment on Illinois:

Chase Brown is a very good player, but you stop him and Illinois has nothing left to fight back with. They mustered nine points, at home, vs. Iowa.

Of course you never take them lightly. You do that and you’ll be paying for it. But that’s still a game that Michigan should win. As long as they’re not caught looking ahead. Minter just needs to gameplan to make anyone besides Chase Brown beat him. Illinois, as of right now, doesn’t have that kind of option.

In a year or two, they might. Right now, they don’t.

I was pretty happy with the playcalling honestly. We brought some new stuff out and were decently creative in the redzone even though some of it didn't work out too well. Minter called a great game overall as well

Coaching:

1. In-game: great overall plan, able to keep course despite two big plays. The run heavy attack worked great.

2. Before the game and before the season: Penn State reportedly recruits competitively with Michigan but without a unique talent like Saquon Barkley, the results on the field suggest the coaching staff have done a better job in converting potential to reality.

My hot take.

George Helow is coaching for his job during the 2nd half of the season.

Hasn't done a ton recruiting, ILBs have regressed.

With all of the coaches getting fired, there's an opportunity to upgrade.

I want Christian Robinson after Harsin gets fired.

He was the first choice over Helow anyway.

Michigan just held Penn State to 111 rushing yards, over half of which came on one play.  Yes, that one play should have been defended better, although I’m not sure if that was on the LBs or the DL on that particular play.  But Colson made some good plays, and NHG hasn’t played a down this year.  I’m not going to claim that linebacker is a strength, but I see signs of improvement.
