OT: What's your favorite song from every band you ever listened to?

Submitted by Wendyk5 on February 23rd, 2023 at 4:13 PM

My husband and I are driving from Chicago to Phoenix next week to take in some Cubs spring training and have been looking for ways to bide the time during the drive. He came up with a game and we've been obsessed ever since. We're each creating a playlist consisting of our one favorite song from every band we ever liked or listened to. It's a daunting task considering we're both in our late 50's. We'll listen to and critique each others list over the course of the drive. He already has 6 hours worth of songs. I'm not suggesting you put your lists here, just giving you an interesting challenge in these football-free months. If you're into music, it actually can be a challenge to pick just one, especially from a favorite band.

Thank you for posting.

“Freebird” is an essential part of my football tailgating “pre-game”.  It’s what I play as I drive into the lot and begin setting up for the day’s festivities.

Go Blue!  (And, the opener against East Carolina can’t get here soon enough.)

Nope, this is an exercise in which I cannot participate. Too many great songs from too many artists - and what I feel like listening to changes with my current "feelz". But. Enjoy your ride and your tunes! 👍😁

Oh, I've already changed my mind on a couple of them. I have to come up with a specific criteria to pick among bands like The Who and The Stones where the catalog is vast and there are so many good ones. I may say, "I love this one now but I loved that other one for so many years so I'm going with my original favorite."

Interesting question and tough as hell to answer because it depends on the mood I'm in. But just off the top of my head, these are songs that I absolutely wouldn't want to be without from some of my favorite groups/bands:

David Bowie: Ziggy Stardust

Nirvana: Radio Friendly Unit Shifter

Beastie Boys: Sabotage

Talking Heads: Psycho Killer

U2: Sunday Bloody Sunday

Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here

Neil Young: Old Man

Now that there is the truth.  Thinking about it for a few seconds, I'd guess about half the bands I can think of have one clear favorite, the other half not so much.

I'm not going to do it, I'm not going to do it, the hell I'm  not!

Now, I don't do 'best', we get to enjoy them all.

I am going to toss in BJ Wilson, the octopus in a bathtub. Let us not forget that he turned down Page and Plant before Bonham joined Led Zeppelin.

Since I've admitted publicly to watching Ron Johnson vs Wisconsin I'll admit to seeing Procol Harum live for the first time in 1971. Ah, the Eastown.

Radiohead - any song from Ok Computer or Kid A.

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon... but it's impossible to only listen to one song.

Pixies - anything off of Surfa Rosa

Pavement - all of Wowee Zowee

Fuck favorite songs, favorite albums yes.
