[OT] Urban Meyer to sign contract extension for an additional 5 years (2022)
Exactly, as the title says... On his way out of the recruiting presser to announce the committment of 5* OT Nicholas Petit-Frere and 4* OLB Javontae Jean-Baptiste, Urban confirmed rumors that he has been approached with and plans to sign a 5-year contract extension until 2022.
Urban Meyer says Ohio State has extended an offer to him for a contract extension that he expects to sign soon.

Good, five more chances for Harbaugh to get a win against him

His chances are not good. Needs more sleepovers on the recruiting trail.

Woah woah woah this isn't Iowa or ND here... 2023

I'm seriously convinced my happy marriage of 20+ years will instantly dissolve today.

At this point this is actually kind of funny. Eventually you just embrace the insanity of it all and learn to laugh at it. Nothing I can do about it by getting mad, so I might as well laugh at it.
Sure, I wish we beat them more, but at the end of the day, football is nothing more than entertainment. My life hasn't changed an ounce because of the team's misfortunes, and neither has it for any of my OSU fans who like to poke in little jabs at me whenever they can.
Embrace the suck, my friends. Learn to laugh at it too, because I don't think its going to stop anytime soon.

Not sure why people are reacting strongly to this . . . he'll obviously be there as long as he wants, and if he doesn't want to be there, a contract wouldn't stop him. It's just a pay raise for him.

Precisely. Today's content is a good study in confirmation bias.

All the smart MGoBlog posters assured me that as soon as Harbaugh signed his contract at Michigan that Urban Meyer would suddenly turn tail and retire with heart issues.
Time for a brand-new delusional MGoBlog meme.

somehow teflon'd himself from Tat-gate and the Tressel debacle. It would be ridiculous if he did not follow suit with a heftier contract given the overwhelming importance of football to his university.

You're commenting on a blog created by a guy who abandoned his original career path specifically because of the overwhelming importance of football to his university.

WIthout football people in ohio would have no life.

and that is why you post on this blog? Given UM's recent lack of success in critical games your implication may be right that football has less importance for UM.

Well, it could be worse......... At least we are not MSU fans dealing with the tire fire they have going on.

As an HC Meyer has *never* lost a rivalry game. Never. Would you let a college coach go with that record? Answer. Never.
February 7th, 2018 at 1:42 PM ^
He's lost to MSU a couple times.
February 7th, 2018 at 4:24 PM ^
I don't think OSU and MSU are rivals.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

He lost to Georgia at least once, and FSU at least once as well. Granted, those were in "down years" in Gainesville, but his rivalry record is pretty ridiculous otherwise.

We have 3.

Dan Enos is still listed as being part of Harbaugh's staff, while Ed Warriner is nowhere to be found.

Actually Meyer is under contract through 2020. The extension in question is a two year extension through 2022. The big part of the announcement is that for the first time ever, OSU will have some assistant coaches making $1M+.

Jim was offered a life long contract if he wanted it.

This is great news, Meyer can retire after losing five in a row to Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines!
