OT: Rob Parker and Three Ex-Athletes Launching All-Black Sports Talk Radio Station in Detroit
The story in the Detroit News is paywalled, but here's the relevant part:
Former Detroit sports columnist Rob Parker and three business partners, all former athletes, have reached an agreement to lease WXYT 1270-AM from Audacy and launch the nation's first all-Black lineup of hosts. "Sports Rap Radio" is scheduled to launch in mid-May, and eventually will feature local programming from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with Parker's nationally syndicated show, "The Odd Couple" with Chris Broussard, airing from 7-10 p.m.
One of his partners is former U-M wide receiver Maurice Ways.

Well, up until just a few decades ago, Black folks watched and listened to media and entertainment provided almost exclusively by White folks. So, there's your answer!

Redacted.
I re-read the OP and it says 'all black lineup of hosts' - so I read it wrong. Nonetheless, I can't believe this is the first all black lineup of hosts on a radio show, at all.

Really, 100% the truth. I hate arguments like that and find them very annoying.

I am pretty sure that there were plenty of blacked owned radio stations in the segregated south targeting black audiences in the 1950s

had a bit more faith in this blog but i don't know how that "question" has 77 likes. embarrassing stuff.

haile selassie: On the question of racial discrimination, the Addis Ababa Conference taught, to those who will learn, this further lesson:
that until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned;
that until there are no longer first class and second class citizens of any nation;
that until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes;
that until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race;
that until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained.

And… he was assassinated.

Not if Rob Parker has a say in it !

FUBU...

Be honest. What are you getting at?
February 23rd, 2024 at 2:16 PM ^
Rob Parker is horrible. No thanks.
February 23rd, 2024 at 6:14 PM ^
So you’re not one of his Close Warm Personal Friends (CWPF)?
February 24th, 2024 at 4:31 PM ^
Agreed, Parker’s a dick. Piss on him.

Had completely forgotten about Maurice Ways. Seems like a lifetime ago. Hopefully Braylon is not one of the hosts. Wouldn't mind having a better local radio option in several time slots.

Ways and Ian Bunting both transferred to Cal. Visual:

I think my favorite Twitter meme of all time was when there were rumbling toward the end of the year of Maurice Ways transferring at the end of the season. There was a clip of him putting very little effort at the end of a deep ball thrown his way and a Twitter poster shared that clip and said “looks like Mo Ways just grad transferred halfway through his route”.
February 23rd, 2024 at 6:48 PM ^
That's funny in so many Mo Ways than I can count....

This should have more upvotes

Rob "Cornball brother" Parker? Yeah, so I'm not giving 97.1 or 1270-AM my listening dollars. I'll still to Sirius/XM.

Stephen A's eye-roll and headshake is hilarious.
Love how Parker had to comment on her looks. Dude is a clown. I'd forgotten about him for sometime.
February 23rd, 2024 at 2:43 PM ^
His whole routine of being a cut rate Stephen A wasn't worth the time.
February 23rd, 2024 at 4:36 PM ^
He was Stephen A before Stephen A
February 23rd, 2024 at 9:27 PM ^
Parker was literally Stephen A’s mentor
February 23rd, 2024 at 10:01 PM ^
I don't think this is true. They are pretty much contemporaries. Parker beginning at the Freep in 94 and Stephen A beginning at the Philadelphia Inquirer at the same time. Stephen A has been smarter and much more savvy than Parker.

This town's sports radio is clownishly bad. You get to listen to hosts clown the local fans.
February 23rd, 2024 at 2:21 PM ^
Fuck Rob Parker
February 23rd, 2024 at 2:46 PM ^
No thank you.
February 24th, 2024 at 4:51 AM ^
Hard,NO.
February 23rd, 2024 at 2:23 PM ^
I hope someone calls and asks if Parker's wife ever wishes she'd married a better sports columnist.
February 23rd, 2024 at 2:29 PM ^
I regret I have but one upvote to give this comment.

So being a certain race is a requirement for employment, isn’t that illegal? What happened to “diversity” 🤔
February 23rd, 2024 at 2:48 PM ^
Couldn't help yourself, eh?
February 23rd, 2024 at 3:15 PM ^
I’m sorry B-Nut, am I not allowed to comment on this? Are there race requirements for commenting too? Sorry, as someone who has an interracial marriage and bi-racial children, these things bother me.
February 23rd, 2024 at 3:42 PM ^
so as someone with bi-racial children, it bothers you that there would be a radio station with an explicitly non-white perspective?
February 23rd, 2024 at 5:22 PM ^
Strawman
February 23rd, 2024 at 5:27 PM ^
Seems less like a strawman than a very reasonable interpretation of his orignal post
February 23rd, 2024 at 5:32 PM ^
okay I'll bite. So what part of this is bothering him?
As I said below, which no one wants to answer, do you also think an AM Christian radio station is run by bigots?
February 23rd, 2024 at 6:41 PM ^
do you also think an AM Christian radio station is run by bigots?
I'm not the person you were replying to, but what point are you trying to make? Because with what I know about Christian media (and especially Christian AM radio), my answer is "probably."
February 23rd, 2024 at 8:01 PM ^
I’m trying to make the point that radio stations that exclusively employ and are aimed at certain groups already exist. Yet these people grumbling only seem to get upset when it’s a black radio station. They aren’t mad about Christian radio stations. And I think they should ask themselves why they are fine with a radio station aimed at one group of people but not another.
February 23rd, 2024 at 8:37 PM ^
Ohhhhhhh, that makes sense. Yeah, I'm on your side.

And you just tokenized your wife and kids. Bravo 👏
February 23rd, 2024 at 5:00 PM ^
Couldn’t help himself from pointing out the obvious absurdity that anything advertised as explicitly “all white” would properly labeled as racist, but an “all black” sports talk station is just fine?
February 23rd, 2024 at 5:30 PM ^
That seems much less absurd than complete ignorance of the last 400 years or so in this country
February 24th, 2024 at 8:35 AM ^
I am really going to have to read up on the 150 years of this country that took place before it even existed!
