OT: Options to get B1G Network now that Comcast is dropping it?

Submitted by Dan Man on

I see there have been some old posts on cord cutting and a few announcing that Comcast was dropping B1G Network outside of states with Big 10 teams, but it seems there are new streaming options coming out all the time and I'm not sure about the best way to go.  Any opinions on the best/cheapest way to get B1G Network and other common channels (the networks, ESPN, CNN, HBO, etc.) streamed through my television?

Any advice is appreciated!

In the B1G geographic footprint willing to share login credentials...that’s one way to fix the problem.

I haven’t tried YouTubeTv but that seems to be a decent fix. Also, I saw that Dish network is now allowing an a la Carte selection of programs on their packages. You might be able to select a package with B1G Network.

and I have a love/hate relationship with the draft results.  Im ecstatic they took Baker.  I think he was the best QB in the draft, and I was surprised Dorsey took him.  I expected them to take Darnold just because he was the "safe" pick.

With Ward, I liked that pick as well. We very definitely needed to strengthen our secondary, and depending who you listen to, Ward was the best "cover" CB in the draft.  This will (hopefully) alleviate some of Gregg Williams' concerns of getting beaten over the top, which will allow Jabrill to line up in the same time zone as the LOS this season.  Many people expected the Browns to take Chubb, and set themselves up with Garrett and Chubb as bookends of the D-line.  I think those people are sleeping on Emanuel Ogbah (who was a second round pick himself).  Ogbah and Garrett only played 10 quartes tgether last season, but in those 10 quarters, they combined for 6.5 sacks.  If they can both stay healthy this season, I think people will forget about Chubb quickly.

Also, Gregg Williams said he studied the tape of last season and there were 28 plays where Garrett was within 2 steps of the QB when the ball was released.  If the CB's could've maintained coverage even a second longer, the sack numbers would have been appreciably higher.  Now with Ward, Jamar Taylor and Brien Boddy Clahoun in the slot, with Peppers and Damarious Randall playing safety, we might be ale to give the DL that extra second they need to get to the QB.

In the secod round, I hoped the Browns would go for more DL help and a WR.  Seeing as how they added Carlos Hyde in FA, and the depth of the RB class overall, I didnt think RB was as pressing a need as WR (especially when considering Josh Gordon is one misstep from being banished forever, and Corey Coleman spends more time on the injured list than the field).  I was hoping they'd go after Maurice or possibly Harold Landry, and COurtland Sutton.

That being said, Chubb is a helluva back, and Austin Corbett (OL) seems to have the goods. I was surprised they spent a 2nd on an OL, even with Thomas' retirement, mainly because of the investment that already have in Zeitler, Bitonio and Tretter, along with guys like Austin Pasztor and Shon Coleman who have shown they are (at the very least) serviceable OL.  What concerns me about Corbett is that it looks like they might be grooming him to play multiple OL spots (i.e. a super sub) at least in the first few years of his career.  Id rather they put him at  1 spot and let him learn that, rather than having him diversify.  Lots of folks have speculated that they could put him in at LG and kick Bitonio out to LT, but I think keeping Bitonio at LG (where he has been outstanding) while plugging Pasztor in at LT until Corbett is up to speed is a better way to go.  Others have speculated Shon Coleman could go to LT, but he struggles with speed rushers and Im not sure he's up to it. I thin he is better suited for RT.

The Calloway pick I anot a fan of.  His off field transgressions are well known, and one knucklehead int he WR room is plenty/  Talent wise, he has first round ability, and if he stays out of trouble he could be very good, but I would have preferred using 33 or 35 on Sutton.

The Chad Thomas selection didnt blow my skirt up, but it is DL depth and he can supposedly line up inside or at end, so that versatility is appealing.

One of the picks I REALLY like is Genard Avery, LB from Memphis in the 5th round.  I saw a couple Memphis games last year (the C-USA championship game against UCF chief among them) and dude was all over the field.  He's 250 lbs, ran a 4.59, has some coverage ability and is a sure tackler.  I really like him a lot

In a butshell, it all comes back to Baker.  Anyone who compared him to John Football was just making assumptions based on size and probably didnt watch him play.  He can read defenses, diagnose plays at the line, and throw with anticipation rather than waiting for a receiver to be open before he throws the ball. He can make ay throw on the field, and will use his feet when needed, but more often to extend a play rather than bailing from the pocket if his first read is not open.  His accuracy is excellent, and it does not suffern when he has to throw the ball on the move.  So long as Hue doesnt screw him up, or get him hurt by calling 4 verts over and over again, I think he will succeed.

Im more optimistic for anupcoming Browns season than I have been in a long, long time.  I dont think we are going to the playoffs or anything crazy, but I do think that we are going to have a defense that is in the top half of the league. I think the offense will have good days and bad days. Most importantly, I think by Halloween, teams will no longer be able to automatically assume the Browns are an automatic W

You can stream PS Vue on up to five devices at the same time.  It can be on more than 5, but you can only stream PS Vue on 5 at a time.

I live in Atlanta, so that is my disclaimer when speaking about local channels, but I get the big four locals (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC).

I get every channel I could ever need for sports with PS Vue, including, yes, BTN.  Even the BTN Alternates are on it.

If you live in an area that can get it, I would highly recommend some sort of fiber.  I went from 150 Mbps of Comcast to AT&T Fiber at 100Mbps and it's better than Comcast for streaming IMO.

On PSVue you can select your favorite channels and they will all populate at the top of your guide.  That saves time scrolling on game day or any day.

One thing about DVR on PS Vue, which is the only service I can speak to, is in order to DVR something, you have to add a "show" to "My Shows", AND you cannot start watching the same show after it's already started if it's still recording.  So for instance, for a noon kick, you couldn't start watching it on your DVR at 1pm and "catch up".  I found that out the hard way about a year and a half ago.

If you want to drop Comcast then you could get DirecTV. I have DirecTV. I have paid $40a month for over 8 years. Just sign up for the new deal where it’s like 34.99 or something, then every time (once a year) they raise it, just call and say your dropping cause you can’t afford it. They will keep your price the same, works every time. But wait there’s more.... lol jk.

If you're willing to put up with multiple pets and kids and downriver craziness, I am willing to entertain guests here in the Big Ten footprint. That's only because I have no intention of letting people use my Comcast login since that doesn't help me finish off the beer and other drinkables on a given gameday.

We’ve had PS Vue for a year. Very happy with it. Reasonable price. When watching live, it’s slower than cable. Occasional freeze but it’s minimal impact. I recommend it to everyone.

I've been wanting to cut the cord for a while now and signed up for the YouTubeTV trial when the winter olympics were on. I flipped between comcast and YouTube and noticed that the picture was 'grainier' on youtube (as well as delayed, but that is to be expected).

I probably could be fine with the grainier view since I wouldn't be comparing side-by-side and I would just adapt. But the deal breaker for me was the lack of surround sound which made everything seem hollow.

Another big miss with YouTubeTV is if you 'record' something that has an on-demand version currently available, when you go to play back you won't actually be playing a recorded version but instead will be fed the on-demand. So if the on-demand version has commercials, you're stuck with them. If there is no on-demand version then it is just like a regular DVR recording.

I went to Directv Now like 6 months ago and haven't looked back. It has BTN, all the relevant ESPN channels, the 4 major local network channels (Detroit at least, other cities may not yet). And most importantly, it has all the Disney Channels and the Nickelodean channels to appease my kids, which jmis the #1 priority. I don't think any other streaming tv service includes all local channels, Disney channels and Viacom channels like Directv Now. Downside is no DVR...yet.

I was an early adopter of sling TV and it was serviceable until the other streaming services came along. I have tried sling, YouTube TV, and PS Vue and I think YouTube TV is hands down the best.

Went to Hulu live about two months ago. ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, Big Ten, FS1, FS2, FS Detroit, NBCSN, GOLF channel. It’s solid for sports and only $40 per month. Getting an HD antenna installed in my attack soon for locals.
