OT: It's Pi Day, so let's talk about pie

Happy Pi Day, y'all!

I'm not sure how, but I came across this map of the "most searched pies in every state" in my newsfeed. I was surprised to see that Michigan's is "Sugar Pie". I've never even heard of it. And no Pecan Pie anywhere in the South?

For my money, I'll take a good old custard pie any day.

So what do you say? What is your favorite pie? Savory or sweet?

Happy Pi Day!

Favorite pie? Blueberry! Hot or cold. No ice cream distractions needed. I do have an absurd weakness for a few other sweets like Tira Misu and Juniors Cheesecake (which is a PITA to get, but worth it). Pie? Not peach, not apple. Blueberry!

Damnit! Be right back, have to find some ...

My specialty is apple cranberry pie.  I’m still not great at making neat crusts but once I learned to chill the dough before rolling it out, it made it so much easier to get the top shell on in one piece which I was terribad at before. But yes, I love any and all fruit pies.

(I’m meh on cherry pie but that doesn’t really warrant its own tangent)

Apple Pie with ‘Sugar in the Raw’ sprinkled on the crust.  Vanilla Ice Cream (the real kind) on the side.

When the apple pie is gone, blueberry is the next best pie.

Pie is better than cake.  That is all...

I mean, you guys know what cake is for, right?  It's merely the vessel that holds the frosting.  Frosting is the only good part about cake.

I make a killer blueberry-peach pie, but my all time favorite is cherry pie made with freshly picked cherries.  It’s the best and one of the joys of summer.  If someone offers you banofee pie, order it.  Yummy!

WTF Minnesota?

I know a few of you and you usually bring some weird ass deep dish casserole made with 8 cans of cream of mushroom and zero spices to the party that we pretend to eat before it gets tossed in the trash.

We had pie at my wedding instead of cake.  Sweet Potato Pecan Pie.   Bottom is sweet potato pie, which is similar to pumpkin pie,  and the top is pecan pie.  Absolutely delicious.

So many pies… so little time..

Apple, Blueberry, Rhubarb (with Rhubarb from our garden), Pumpkin, and Pecan.

Fruit Tarts are always a favorite too.

As a, non-native, resident of Georgia I would venture a guess that Pecan Pie was not 'most searched' here simply because everyone already has a family recipe for it.

Cherry pie, made with Traverse city cherries (with a crumb topping if you're feeling saucy), eaten during a Northern Michigan summer, as the sun is setting over the lake and there is just the slightest chill in the air after spending all day playing in the woods. Quite specific, but that's the answer :)

In the metropolitan NYC area where I grew up in the 1950s and 1960s, they called them Scooter Pies. Now they're known mostly as Moon Pies. I remember them as a lunchbox staple.

Then there's the smaller, single-cracker version that those of us who grew up in the metropolitan NYC area have known as Mallomars. Boxes of Mallomars fly off grocery-store shelves when they come back in September. They're available only from September through March because Nabisco won't ship them due to the risk that the chocolate will melt during warmer weather.

Whether Moon Pies, Scooter Pies or Mallomars, they've all been the victims of shrinkflation. Curse you, Nabisco!
