OT: Hugh Freeze reportedly in Tuscaloosa interviewing for Alabama OC position

Submitted by Wolverine In Iowa 68 on

The very thought of that POS coaching makes me sick.

“Former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze was in Tuscaloosa today and was in the football building, The Tuscaloosa News has learned. Saban has always had a healthy respect for Freeze, who gave Alabama fits with his offense. Freeze was given a head coach restriction and two-game suspension but only if he were to become a head coach. He would face no restrictions as an assistant coach.”

I actually like the idea of Saban hiring Freeze, because it might force the NCAA to put a little extra scrutiny on Bama. Oh who am I kidding, they'll probably overnight Freeze's old phone to Saban's office.

When I first heard of Michigan pursuing Ole Miss transfers the first thought in my head was... Wouldn't the formerly highly rated recruits from Ole Miss be the prime suspects of "improper benefits" and still under investigation?

Admittedly, I did not follow the whole Ole Miss scandal very closely other than the basics of Hugh Freeze providing escorts for highly-rated recruits. Do we know which players were implicated, or is the NCAA still hashing that part out? Would the NCAA potentially deny Shea Patterson's eligibility waiver because of it?

Pete Finebaum will be all in on this.  He'll spew his spew on his show, ESPN Radio, and SportsCenter about what a great hire it is.  And everyone will fall in line...

Fuck the NCAA.

College football is big business. Not surprised by this at all, actually kind of surprised it took this long for him to get into the running for a big job. The invisible line between right and wrong, moral and immoral, seems to constantly get more blurry in this amateur sport.

Please, oh please, oh please, let this be the final straw that causes the NCAA or FBI to tear down Bama’s program. Hugh Freeze - SEC program killer. I think Delaney should offer to pay Freeze’s salary for Bama.

I am so sick of Alabama. They have made college football not fun for me anymore. I used to love college football so much, but now it's just so predictable that Alabama is going to get a playoff spot and likely win the title every year / every other year. Combined that with ohio states success along with Michigan's mess and I have lost my love for it.

You're trying to tell me a big chunk of the state of Alabama would be ok with putting a self-righteous fake Christian guy who is secretly (or not so secretly anymore) a sexual deviant into a prominent state position?

I just can't believe Alabama would go for that

Hugh coached at Briarcrest HIgh School, which was a rival of my highschool back in the day. I thought he was a creep even then. He's been well entrenched in the evangelical community in and around Memphis for years, and they have a long history of forgiving and rehabilitating pervs and whore mongers within their ranks. Unless it was gay sex, then you're purged forever.

He's been on the prayer and forgiveness tour and has been "lifted up" by his congregation, so it's all good now. Folks in Alabama are well versed in the process and should heartily approve taking in a redeemed sinner that loves the Lawd.

Still, I can't see Saban being this dumb. First Kiffin and now a pimp? If Jimmy the Greek was alive I guess they'd hire him for public relations.

I checked out his twitter feed and saw that he was going to be speaking at a Hillsong concert, which is a pretty big deal in the evangelical community.  I'm all about forgiveness and such, so I won't say much if he did ask for forgiveness and changed his ways.

From a football standpoint, I don't see why this guy is worth the scrutiny.  Just watch some old Ole Miss gamefilm if you want to emulate their offense.
