OT - Good luck to any parents waiting on Michigan EA decisions that are expected to drop today

The common app has been around for a while. The big spike in applications has come from test optional.
Getting a lower test score used to be a deterrent to applying to some schools that you knew had high average test scores. But now you don't need to disclose that, or even take the test in the first place. You can give it a shot and see what happens. So a lot of kids are doing that.

You guys have to check back in and tell us how it went!

Good luck! Hoping for a happy follow-up.

My son is a Junior at Michigan. My daughter (and her alum parents) are hoping for one more Wolverine today. Best of luck to all waiting for that email, which was a big envelope back in my day...

She's in!

Go Blue!
Congratulations to your daughter. Hoping her “Michigan experience” is fantastic.
Now, keep your fingers crossed for a good dorm assignment…

I was in South Quad. My son too. Hoping third time is the charm there!

This may be neg-worthy, but I'd far prefer this say:
"Good luck to any students(!) waiting on M EA..."
I'm a detractor of any parental vicariousness that treats these accomplishments primarily as the parents' own.

My parents may not have been on the exact same level of pins and needles I was when I applied to Michigan back in Nobember of 1994, but they sure as heck participated in my application process and my life as a whole, and they were about as ecstatic as I was when the "thick envelope" arrived in February 1995.
This type of achievement is not for just one or the other person, it's for a whole family. (Also, probably more parents than high school students here fwiw)

I have no kids applying. I have no dog in the fight, at least this year.
Your post sucks.
To suggest a parent, or parents, or guardians, or friends, or teachers, or counselors cannot vicariously enjoy the crowning achievement of a child's secondary education is asshole Level 10.

Still some years to go for my family (son is in seventh grade)
I am, however, waiting on word from my 17 former students for whom I wrote letters of recommendation and will find out their EA fates today.

Wow, that's a lot of recommendations.

Well, she's deferred. Guess we're waiting until early April to find out whether or not she gets in.

Are you in state or out of state?

Out of state, Chicago suburbs.

When I was admitted (turn of the 21st century), I found out from through an email titled 'University of Michigan Admissions Decision' that was 1) text only, no pictures or links and 2) received at about 11:30 at night, on a weeknight in mid/late October (admissions were rolling then, and I had my application ready to go about the first week of school)
I was so excited to see I'd been admitted, and immediately confirmed the email was from an @umich email account, but given the low-quality contents and very unexpected release time, I wasn't 100% sure it was real and not an elaborate troll job until I had my HS guidance counselor check it the next day.

Congrats to my friend who just found out son #2 will also be a Wolverine!

We have a new Wolverine!
Now I just need to figure out how to pay for it...
She, in her words, ugly cried.

In state or out of state?

In State, thank God.

Double post. Sorry.

Thanks for the good vibes. It worked! My daughter got the acceptance at 3pm today and will be an MGoFreshman in the fall. I’m so proud, so happy, and wish all the other applicants the best of luck.
