OT: Franklin and PSU prepping for Michigan's 2023 game
It seems like we could all use a distraction from the events of the past 18 hours, and I hope this helps.
Another thread focused on the SP+ rankings for the upcoming season. While looking at the thread, I not only noticed Penn State's position in the Top Five, but also took a look at their schedule. Michigan visits Happy Valley on November 11th.
So, what is Franklin up to? I think he's using a technique to familiarize - and make his team comfortable - with the "Michigan look", during their OOC schedule. Yes - Maize & Blue is a fantastic combination that we all appreciate and enjoy. He appears crazy as a fox - scheduling another Maize & Blue (or very close to that) team - on September 9th. Take a look at the uni's of their opponent - and, particular attention to the helmets.
Yes it resembles the winged helmet that Michigan wears. And, the opponent is the University of Delaware - who will face PSU in Happy Valley on September 9th.
Franklin seems to trying everything he can to get his squad ready - right down to an (almost) look a like opponent. Oh, very clever Frames. Very, very clever.

NF, normally a great poster but that last comment....

That combination of Blue and Yellow is hurtful for my eyes! Too saturated on screen.

Thanks NF...

I'm really tired of seeing those guys when I watch Penn State games. They might have been funny for at most a couple of years.

But damn, they always manage to get prime seats. Even at away games.
Like that "John 3:16" guy with the rainbow wig that was always behind home plate at the World Series or courtside at the NBA championship or on the 50 yard line at the Super Bowl.
How do they do it?

They have a connection within the University.
They're not bad guys from what I've heard. One of them (they are 3 brothers in their 50s and 60s) is a pretty well-known neurology researcher who is at UPenn.
They are over-shown though.

At the risk of blasphemy, I aesthetically prefer Delaware football uniform's shade of blue, I think they have a sharper uniform versus Michigan's combination of maize and blue.
how does it feel to be wrong?

If you prefer Delaware football's shade of blue over Michigan's, then you necessarily prefer Delaware football's shade of blue over Penn State's.
Having owned both Michigan and Penn State home game jerseys, they are the same blue.

My grandfather played football for Delaware in the 20's I believe. I need to find out more about his career.

Wonder if USC is disappointed that this "rocket scientist" turned them down????

I believe that Franklin is a very mediocre coach-but he isn't as bad as this OP.

Dave Nelson - Coach in the 60s-- was a UM grad and "took" the winged helmet to Delaware. Tubby Raymond-- also a UM grad from Flint-- succeeded Nelson and was one of the winningest coaches in the subdivision in history. Tubby was the father of David Raymond-- the original Phillie Fanatic.

I have 2 degrees-- Delaware in 1972 ( yes, I'm getting up there in years) and Michigan in 1979. I've become more of a UM fan for many reasons, but I still follow the Blue Hens. My very good friend is the color man for Delaware radio broadcasts and he keeps me informed about the team. Delaware had a great win-- for them-- against Navy last year, but they were dominated by South Dakota State in the 2nd round of the playoffs.
I would really like them to give a strong performance against PSU, but doubt that's much of a possibility.

I hate to be that guy but I don't think you can say "colorman" anymore. The accepted term I believe is "commentative American"

1951 David M. Nelson a former Michigan football player becomes head coach and Delaware adopts the Michigan winged helmet look.
February 14th, 2023 at 1:19 PM ^
Wait, so PSU's poor performances against Michigan the past two years weren't because Michigan was a more talented and better-coached team, but because they were surprised by our uniforms?!?
February 14th, 2023 at 3:05 PM ^
Yes. It's science.
We should have scrimmaged Northwestern before the Fiesta Bowl against TCU.

Are people just now realizing Delaware has winged helmets?
Guess what? So does Princeton and they had it first:
February 14th, 2023 at 6:53 PM ^
But no one calls it a "Princeton helmet," because we've used it for 85 years, while they got rid of it as soon as Crisler moved on (to Michigan) and only went back to it in 1998.
And the reason Delaware has it is because they hired a guy from Michigan.
February 21st, 2023 at 12:02 PM ^
They still had it first.
What people call it is irrelevant. In this case, the design is associated with Michigan because they are by far the most successful team using the design.
It does nothing to change that the OP is very, very, very old news and did not deserve a thread.

Trying way too hard here. Several paragraphs not needed to get your point across. And the point is pretty lame.

I don't know why this post got so many downvotes. Best I've seen in some time.

That's one sad sandwich.
February 14th, 2023 at 8:46 PM ^
It will be even sadder 11 Nov....

He's going to feel terrible when the winged helmet puts up 200+ yards rushing on him two weeks in a row.

I'd love the 45 seconds of life back I wasted reading this.

this was supposed to be funny, wasn't it?
