I would love to see the New England defensive coordinator get job just to see if he will have that crazy beard and backwards baseball hat on during games as a head coach

In you lifetime have the Lions had a better coach than Caldwell?

You know how this is going to turn out. The Lions will fire him and 25 years and no playoff wins later we’ll all look back longingly for the Wayne Fucking Fontes era.

Everyone was predicting the lions would take a step back this year. Was anyone predicting the playoffs? I think they overachieved this year... in the usual Lions way... with not scoring until the 4th quarter and getting screwed against Atlanta and shitting the bed against Cinci.

My point is I’ve been following the Lions since the 80’s and this is literally as good as it’s ever been and my fatalism as a lions fan tells me this is as good as it will ever be.

lost interest in the Lions a few years ago. I think Martha may sell the team. Though I doubt t he Ford family really needs extra cash. I just hope no other family members are interested so that Martha can sell the team within a few years.

Was that what happened?  He lost interest?  I thought after he pushed pops to hire Millen, and the way that turned out, that mom and dad decided he'd never be in charge again.

was in charge of Lions operations from 1995 through 2015, the year his father died. He gave over control to his Mother. No, so even the Millen debacle did not cost Bill Jr being in charge. In an article he did say he lost interest after his Father died.

Jr was never in charge of the Lions.  He was too busy running Ford and his dad never gave up the control.  When dad died, Martha took it over.  She made changes immediately, doing what Bill Sr never did - getting rid of dead wieght.  She asked the NFL for help in finding a new GM, and listened to thier advice when she hired Quinn.  She's let him work, and he's done well.  Aside from being 100 years old, she's been the best owner the Lions have ever had in my lifetime (which isn't saying much, I know).  I think she'll give Quinn whatever football leeway he wants to fix the team, as long as its moving forward.  Her husband gave every benefit, too - but the difference is she'll remove dead wieght where her late husband wouldn't.

The bar is REALLY low, since Bill Sr. was one of the worst owners in NFL history and probably for sports in general. That said, Martha has done a decent job.  I wish she would have been running the team instead of her husband or son all these years.  We would have won a lot more games, maybe even a Super Bowl by now..
