OT - Bedtime and wake time
After reading a number of complaints from various members of the board re: the 9:39pm EDT tip time for the game on Thursday, it got me curious about everyone’s normal sleep patterns.
So, the questions are: what time do you usually go to bed, and what time do you usually wake up in the morning on a normal weekday?
I have young kids and my adult time begins after they are all in bed - usually around 9pm. I usually get to bed between 12:30 and 1am and I wake up at 6:10am to make sure the big kids are up and driven to school on time.
Go to bed around 11:30 pm, wake up around 6:30 am (depending on how often I hit the snooze bar)
interesting question.
in bed before midnight most nights, before 11 if i'm smart. up by 0430-0500 to do first barn chores. we're not milking right now so that makes life a little easier.
2 kids under 7 - bed between 11:30 and 12:30 and up between 5:30-6:00.
7p - 7a night shifter. I only wish I could give you a "usual" sleep pattern.
I hear you. 7p-7a. On M,T off W,Th, on F,S,S. Off M,T on W,Th off F,S,S. First day back to work kids are up at 7am. Wife gets home at 530pm and I’m off to work for the the night. Daycare only on days after I work so I can sleep when I get home. Only sleeping 5 days a week aged me fast. Finally made days. I live and sleep like a normal human being now.
The posted start times are brazen lies.
9:39 PM means the game starts sometime after 10:00 PM
this is where being on the west coast is pretty nice, regardless of your sleep preferences. Give me a 9:00 AM football game any day and staying up till 10 local time to watch the end of a game that starts at 9:30 PM EST is choice.
Two kids, one in school and one not (yet)...in bed around 12am and then up at 7:30ish or earlier if I have early meetings. I work from home so my commute is to the coffee maker and back to my home office
In bed about 8pm, read for an hour or so, then get up at about 4:30-4:45am. No kids but I swim before work that is why I am up so early (thus the early bed time). I am in the Pacific Time Zone so that helps with sporting events (but the 6:39 start time will still go past my "bed time")
Late 20s, zero kids. Fall asleep between 11 and 12 every night, and wake at 7:20.
The problem for me isn't when the game ends, but I usually need an hour or 2 of cool down time before my brain finally allows me to sleep. IIRC the Houston game was a similar situation (9:40 start on a work night), and the anxiousness of that finish plus the adrenaline rush of a buzzer beater kept me up till about 2 am. Which sucked, but I won't complain about it during tourney time.
The only time I have an issue is when it happens to be during the regular season on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Any 9:00PM ET tip or later away game doesn't get you into bed before 2AM. It's stupid to put that much stress on a student athlete for no reason.
I run into the same problem with late games so I cheat and take some Zzzquil near the end of the game. Use the end of the game and normal bedtime routine as time to let it take effect.
rarely asleep before 1am; not uncommon to hit sack at 2 or 3
rarely sleep past 7am
In bed between 11-11:30, up around 6:30.
It's probably not enough sleep given the condition I usually wake up in.
Mid 20s, no kids, regular office job with vigorous workout routine. Go to sleep around 11:30 pm and wake up at 7:25 in the morning.
I usually get to bed between 12:30 and 1am and I wake up at 6:10am to make sure the big kids are up and driven to school on time.
Holy crap man, you need to sleep more. I usually go to bed 10:30 or 11 and wake up at 5:45. I should probably go to bed earlier but I am a natural night owl and hate mornings, so it's hard for me.
Have 4 month old twins sleeping in our bedroom and have to drop them off at daycare and be at work by 7:30am. There's no way I'm going to watch the game on Thursday.
Bed between 10-11pm. Wake up between 5:30-6:15 am
I need 7+ hours of sleep daily or I find myself getting sick more often.
Mrs. Hatter is like that. She needs like 8-10 hours per night. It's fairly annoying, especially on the weekends.
10 is excessive, but welcomed on the weekends (even though I don’t sleep well if I party)
If I can get 8 almost regularly, I’m happy
Afternoon delight possible?
sky rockets in flight!
50+, one 10 year old. I usually get to bed around 1am and wake up around 7:15am, although my son is up well before that. He at least can now deal with his morning routine before my wife gets up and we get our days rolling.
Damn. I have trouble staying up until 1am on the weekend. No way during the week. Of course, I get up two hours after you go to bed.
I have a 1 year old so sleep for the last year has been a precious commodity. Babies are like alarm clocks that you can't snooze or turn off on the weekend. In the past, I could stay up super late and just sleep in the next morning. Now I know for certain that with every passing minute I am losing potential sleep time.
24 yrs old and single. On weekdays, asleep by 11pm-midnight, wake up 7-8am. I need 7-8 hours or I'm off my game.
Depending on how late I play 2K19, I go to bed between 9:30 and 11:30 on work nights. There are rare times I play with 2K19 with my friends until almost midnight. I wake around 6:30.
Mid 30's with two young kids. Both are up by 5 every day so they're in bed by 7. We're in bed by 8 since the kids still haven't yet figured out how to sleep through the night.
Mid-50's, no kids. Usually in bed between 9:00-9:30 pm, and up between 4:00-4:45 am.
I owe the habit of rising in the pre-dawn to my cat of 13 years. He liked to eat breakfast early, and would serenade his "waiter" from the hallway until I got up to take his order.
Excepting some details (like the cat) your numbers are the closest I've seen to mine.
It's funny - when I was 12 my bedtime was 9:00 pm, and I used to bitch about it constantly, because I had to go to bed before the good TV shows came on.
Now I'm 58 and very few things look better at 9:00 pm than that bed does.
Personally, I hope the boys beat the living hell out of Texas Tech early, and have a 20+ point lead going into the half. That way I can appreciate the victory and get some sleep. It's a win-win.
Being retired provides flexibility....
So, I usually go to bed somewhere between 11:30pm to midnight and get up around 7:15am because the dogs want their food. If I stay up later, I just get up later, but the dogs have a hard timer on them for 8am.
I've always been a 7-8 hours of sleep a night person. Years ago, I did some heavy duty traveling for 6 months for contract negotiations and would get about 5 hours of sleep Mon-Thu. night. By Friday morning, I was definitely running on fumes.
I'm in sleep heaven right now. I have one kid away in college and the other is 16 with a driver's license so she gets herself up and to school by herself. I also have found the best mattress and pillows for me, and awesome sheets and I've never slept better. So I go to bed around midnight and wake up around 8 on weekdays and 9 on the weekends. I get a good 8 hours every night, give or take.
Middleish 20s, no kids, go to bed 11 pm week days and wake up 7:30 to go to work. Weekends, psh I’ll sleep in til 10:30 usually. Stay up late with friends on the weekend too. Just getting it all in until I’m a great MGoDad like all of you.
No kids. I'm a school teacher, so during the school year to bed by 10:30pm up at 5:30am. During summer and winter breaks it's always bed at midnight up at 7:30am.
Bedtime: 9-10pm Wake up: 5:45am
I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night
40 yr old childless and go to bed between 10-11 and up at 5:00.
I do the flying thing and work nights. Most studies have me dying a year after I retire at 65.
I go to bed at 10 p.m. Wake up at 12 to pee, asleep by 12:05, up at about 3 a.m. to pee, asleep by 3:10 a.m., awake at 4:55 a.m. (alarm - sometime bladder). Yeah - I'm old.
I DONT SLEEP!!!! I JUST DO PROGRESSIVELY!!! MORE!!! COCIANE!!!!
When at work for 20 days straight - Sleep at 2230, wake at 0330
When at home for the rest of the month - Sleep at 0100 and wake at 0900
I never sleep. I'm a jackhammer.
I'm 41 and have four kids that go to bed during the week around 9. Sometimes it's a struggle to stay awake till then. Wake up at 4:45am for the gym and my eventual forty minute commute to work.
I am not a morning person, in fact this is a schedule that doesn't help me feel refreshed. I try to go to bed for 10:30, but its usually 11 - 11:30 and wake up at 5:55.
As a result we sleep in on the weekends and feel like we never get anything done
Bed 8-8:30. Get up at 3 so I can go to the gym before work. Too lazy after work.
28, no kids. I go to bed anywhere from 11-12 and wake up at 6. My internal clock doesn't allow me to sleep past 9 on the weekends unless i'm out super late.
Early 30’s. Single dad. My boy is 18months(excellent pad level). He’s 9:15-6 (and one hell of an alarm clock). I try to fall asleep before midnight.
Mid 30s. No kids, 3 dogs. One dog will drop his elbows into my ankles when he wants me to get up. Fall asleep anywhere between 11-1. Up at 7:09am. About the same on the weekends.
I'm a homeschooling stay at home mom of a 7, 4, and 2 year old. I usually try to get to bed by 11pm and prefer to be up around 6:30-6:45am so that I can shower and be awake before the first one gets up around 7. That hasn't happened in a while though because I'm pregnant with twins and need all the sleep. I couldn't stay awake for the Montana game and I know I probably won't make it all the way for the Texas Tech game either.
you are in a great position and congrats on expectant twins! homeschoolers get to set their own clock, no prison bus to get on, so your wake up time is very under control (generally). can be tough on dad though, since wife and kids eat late with dinner literally never before 9 pm, and they can sleep in all they want.
I want to hear from more lawyers on the board.
I've been going through a response for a government investigation and I only slept more than 5 hours/night like 2 nights this month. Thankfully we will be done next week, but it is really taking its toll on my health and brain functionality. You guys who do only get 5 hours on the regular must be DSM diagnosable.
You would probably be more productive if you slept at least 5.5 - 6 hours per night, even subtracting that from work time. I know a lot of ppl think they don't have that option, but I'm serious. It's probably a net negative for your employer.
