Ole Miss transfers hit Sam's Gut

Submitted by jbibiza on

Looks like Sam Webb's Balz prediction has travelled to his gut for the three coveted Ole Miss transfers.

Perfunctory: It's Happening!!

and another playmaker at WR (we will have a lot of these next year!!!).

We can't show interest in Greg Little until he requests and receives a Permission to Contact form.  I have been listening to the main Ole MIss daily podcase (it's actually pretty good), the word in Oxford is that he has not requested one yet; however, he hasn't said that he is staying either.

They think there is a better than 50% chance that he stays given that he is a likely top 5 pick next year and just needs to ride out one more season.

They did say that if he does request a transfer, it will likely be next week when the players go home for winter break.  Take that for what it is worth.

He's not going to. Think about it for second. You have a guy that has NFL talent and his position is one that he only has to depend on himself blocking for instead of say...a receiver who depends on the QB getting the ball to him. That means you can be an NFL talent on a bad team still. He is as big or bigger than most of the guys he has to go against so there is not fear factor. Add that to the fact that he only has to get through 12 more games before going to secure what will most likely be a 1st round NFL contract.

Or.

He can transfer, risk having to sit out a year, compete for a spot that he already has at Ole Miss, risk his stock going down because of it, risk personality/culture clash, enter a whole new school and academic situation, etc.

It's not happening. It would be a dumb move on his part as I'm sure others have advised him. Hell, even Harbaugh might advise him of that.

Only way he pulls the trigger is if the all of the other guys get their release to play in 2018 and they recruit him (he is good friends with Shea Patterson and Rashan Gary) to come over with images of National Championship trophies dancing in their heads.

However, that is a very low probably event and it seems that Texas A&M and LSU were higher on his list out of HS than Michigan - so even if he pulls the trigger those places are higher liklihood landing spots.

Ok, so I haven’t followed super closely, but Van Jefferson would be immediately eligible in case of a transfer no matter what waivers get granted, right? He will be a 4th year player next year which would fall under the rule where players are allowed to transfer without restriction if the bowl ban happened in their senior season.

All 3 guys are from the 2016 class.   Patterson and Jefferson played two years, Anderson played his freshman year and redshirted last year.

All believe the NCAA will allow them to be eligible right away as Ole Miss lied to them about the NCAA pending charges and penality.   If they transfer, we will have to wait for the NCAA to make the decision.

Obviously it makes me happy because we could be getting three instant contributors. However, does anyone see this as the beginning of a new can of worms for the NCAA? What is stopping kids from using it as free agency?

I agree - I don't see a problem with any program showing up at the door of another if a sanctions ruling says that they may do so essentially. Actually, that's what makes the indignation of certain fanbases over Michigan doing this kind of amusing, as if they would pass up on this if they had the opportunity / flexibility to do the same thing.

Surprised Pete finebaum hasn't used this opportunity to denigrate jim "carpetbagging" harbaugh for coming down and "taken der Es ee cee keedz" if for nothing else than to garner clicks

The 7 stuff was only fluff. It's possible four other guys had mentioned UM at some point but no one besides the three have set up visits.
