Ole Miss transfers hit Sam's Gut

Submitted by jbibiza on

Looks like Sam Webb's Balz prediction has travelled to his gut for the three coveted Ole Miss transfers.

Perfunctory: It's Happening!!

The waivers will come or the ncaa and ole miss can plan on a class action lawsuit from ole miss players. They were openly lied to by Freeze about what the sanctions would be. I highly doubt the ncaa and especially ole miss want federal investigators uncovering more wrong doings in a case they are sure to lose. They really have no choice unless they want everthing that was going on at ole miss revealed to the public. This could hurt the ncaa and ole miss in so many ways, I personally feel the waivers are a done deal.

Correct. And I believe it wasn't just Freeze who lied to them but also the NCAA as well when they were contacted prior to last season. That is why waivers would be a lock. There's no way they want investigators to have an in so to speak that will lead to discovery and depositions. They don't want their cash cow crumbling.

I really don't understand how the numbers for this are going to work without forcing some committed kids out of this class and that feels real shitty.

There is also Jarret Patterson who is visiting, the ath from georgia that wiltfong put in a crystal ball for and Tyler Friday that most people expect to show up in this class.  Getting to 22 also involves giving firm handshakes to guys like JBB and Lawrence Marshall which seems a tad bit risky to me given the extremely young depth along both lines.

Its just starting to get incredibly tight in this class and sort of walls of the ability of being able to bring in a surpise late elite recruit.  What happens if Chase wants to commit in addition to the guys listed? What about Petit-Frere?

And I think that's AK's point.  If we have room left for 6 guys total, and we take 3 transfers, that leaves 3 spots max.

Jamarr Chase, Tyler Friday, Eyabi Anoma, Nick Petit-Frere, Talanoa Hufanga, Tommy Tremble, Luke Ford, Michael Barrett, Rick Sandidge, Jason Oweh, Chris Olave, etc.

There's some longshots in there but we're in the thick of it for a bunch of those guys.  If dominos fall and they want to come to Michigan, you're either telling them no, processing current commits, or looking at 5th year guys like JBB to make room.

The numbers look sketchy to me as well.  I'm not sure why AK is getting downvoted on this one.

Visits and interest don't equal commits.

Michigan may not lead for any of these players so we may be projecting a problem where one doesn't exist.

The numbers are a bit tight, but this feels like looking for a problem.

Frankly, if this helps balance out class sizes then I am all for it.

Assuming the Depth Chart is updated. We are at 85 schollys with the current 16 commits. There are a few players up for 5th year that might get the ole handshake. There ought to be a couple "getting late early" players that see the writing on the wall. That happens every season.

Latest updates have class size at 20-22, so with 3 transfers, assume 17-19. So 1-3 more recruits.

Some kids may get 'forced' out, but I think Harbaugh knows the right/less wrong way to do that.

Did he really play much? AJ Brown would be the coveted WR. What ever happened to the original report the we were after him? Was that not a real thing or he wasn't interested?

I'll guarantee that Shea wins the job. Absolutely no doubt in my mind. Love Peters but unless he progresses at a ridiculous pace and Shea regresses by the same amount, there's really no comparison at this point.

The 2018 team is a playoff contender and can't afford a learning phase. Someone has to start in South Bend on Sept. 1 who knows what they're doing.

For the record, I don't care who it is, just that they're competent and ready to go. Not having adequate time to learn the O is a legitimate concern to have about Patterson, but who knows. Maybe he's a savant. It happens.

will shed additional light on where Peters is in his evolution as "the man" at QB. Peters is not much older since the Badger game, but probably a little wiser, especially when it comes to that "sixth sense" while in the pocket. And the O-line might have undergone somewhat of an epiphany (i.e., a sudden, intuitive grasp of reality) when it comes to covering D-line stunts and linebacker blitzes.

New Year's Day should see a decent if not good pass-pro O-line and a starting QB who (after a good performance) believes he's ready to take on any challenger for his job, however much hype that challenger might bring with him.

But do we know exactly what 3? Shea Patterson is one for sure, and I’m guessing Anderson because he’s visiting with Patterson, and then I read that Little is not interested. So what other one of the 7 originally listed is the third? Again I apologize if it’s already been said. Go blue

Fact they pursuing 3 instead of the 7 that some are reporting. He did say he felt really good about Patterson and Van Jefferson, and had no real feeling about Deontay Anderson. He said he is definitely a take, he just wasn't sure of his level of interest.
