Ohio favored by 10.5

Hey, 50 years ago, they were favored by two touchdowns.

Going to be an interesting week.

Why is it on Ohio ?  We were favored to win the B1G at the beginning of the season because of our experience and their youth and yet they're going to win the B1G again no matter what happens in this game.  Jim CANNOT go to 0-5.  Gotta believe the pressure is on us. Still no B!G championships since 2004

They also picked Nebraska to win the West, at least they were closer with picking UM. If not for a bad first half against PSU they might be in the conversation. I'm certain that more often than not the writers pick the wrong teams to win the conference. That said, we were a trendy pick but to say its because we had experience is crazy considering our defense had a lost a ton of experienced starters.

Agreed. Given Michigan isn’t really playing for anything but winning The Game, should just be happy all the players are playing at this point because could be getting ready for the draft.

No matter what happens against Ohio State this year has some positives that will last years.

(1) We curbstomped Dantonio and he is either done or will drag down his program with pride.

(2) We blew out Notre Dame and many Irish fans want Kelly gone.  (Why are BigTen teams even scheduling ND and helping a major competing power that is within our footprint???)

(3) We finally blew out Indiana.

(4) We implemented a new offensive system that is finally seeing success.

Word.

STOP SCHEDULING ND.

Home and home every 15 years is ok, I guess. I hate them. I hate their fans. It’s great to beat them. But acting like all their rivals should just bend the knee and play them frequently is ridiculous.
Hey, ND, USC is your biggest rival? Cool join the PAC 10. Your basketball program wants to join the acc? Fine. But don’t half ass it. Do it or don’t. That includes *clears throat* your entire athletic department.
They are trying (successfully) to play one or two big games a year, without the grind (or common opponents) of a conference schedule, yet still be in playoff talks.

Bo was right.

Word. I was pissed when OSU scheduled ND for a home and home. The B1G would best be served if all the conference members stopped playing ND. Let ND be a team with no rivals other than USC, no conference championship to sell to recruits. All they could say is "we play a half assed pseudo ACC schedule". Recruits families in the midwest won't be happy having to travel all over the Eastern seaboard to watch ND play.

I'd rather continue an interesting series with a peer institution than let it die out of some misplaced Big Ten pride.

ND is not going to wither on the vine if the Big Ten doesn't play them.  They'll find replacements.  And WTF has Jim Delany done for us that we need to follow his bidding?

His scheme this year would do much better against last year's Ohio State team for sure. But the nervewracking thing on that side of the ball is still the middle of our line. And OSU has good guards and an elite rb. If their running game is churning they'll be impossible to stop, especially in the second half.

The 2 years I was at Michigan for graduate school we beat undefeated 10-0 Ohio State teams ranked#2 in 1995 and 1996.  1995 was, of course, the Biakabutuka game in Ann Arbor.  1996 was at Ohio State and we were 17 point underdogs.  I don't remember the line in 1995. Those Ohio State teams were loaded with Eddie George, Terry Glenn, Orlando Pace, Shawn Springs, Mike Vrabel, David Boston.

It was pretty glorious and you almost forget the 4 losses each of those years (almost)

The Biakabutuka game was my last game as a student at the Big House. It was a bit bittersweet. The game was sweet; but by that point most of my friends had graduated and moved on so I was there alone. I did talk with some girls from Northwestern who were very happy because us knocking off OSU allowed Northwestern to go to the Rosebowl, if I recall correctly.

That's a heck of a line for a road team in a rivalry game that isn't a 11-0 team vs a 3-8 type team, but probably fair. On a neutral field this line would probably be OSU -17.

OSU's reputation and hype hasn't been higher than this in a long, long time. I don't know how justified it is because some of it seems to be based just on the fact that Clemson isn't playing anyone and Bama lost to LSU (while they don't trust LSU yet as a juggernaut). Don't get me wrong, OSU is easily the best team in the Big Ten and should probably wallop us all things being equal but I would totally not be shocked to see them lose vs a Southern team in the playoffs.

I took the points and PSU versus OSU.  Against good defenses like MSU and PSU, they have averaged only about 33 points (34, 28 and then 38 to Wisconsin).   If we can hold them to that average, we will need to score 38-ish points to win the game and 24-ish to cover the spread.

Watched the PSU game ... people are overlooking the strength of OSU's defense.  Mattison has really turned around that unit.  Their pass rush is elite.  PSU, minus yards from the 5 sacks, had only about 50 net yards from the pass game for the entire day.

???

Who is overlooking OSU’s defense? They’re favored by 10 on the road versus a team that’s been on fire on both sides of the ball. Indeed, the biggest concern I have for this game is OSU’s defense, specifically the D line. Patterson has been great when not too pressured.  He’s terrible when pressured, with bad decisions and accuracy problems even when throwing to a wide open target. He’ll be pressured Saturday.

they played PSU, MSU, and Wiscy all at home.  They haven't played a ranked team on the road.

don't forget, Mattison coached at Michigan before he pulled his big F/U and went South.  We should know his tendencies.

I don't know if we are going to win or lose.  But one thing is certain, we are going to give them our best shot.

Take Michigan and the points in this one, fellas. This line is an overcorrection due to last year. The final score will either be closer, or UM wins outright.
