Rule: shows that win an Emmy cannot give statuettes to the on-air talent, who are eligible for winning other awards. No double dipping.

ESPN: Okay, we'll submit fake names to get some extra Emmys for the show, then replace the plates so our on-air talent will feel good about themselves.

Intent to deceive from ESECPN. In fairness, the on-air talent themselves didn't seem to know what was going on. Although, those on-air talent 'represent' ESPN, so even if they weren't fully aware ...

I don't want to pretend to be an awards expert but this actually makes sense. There's an award for best on-air talent on that type of show and those folks are eligible for that. If the show itself wins, or wins for some technical category, the producers of the show get it. Its like at the Oscars, the cast of the film that wins Best Picture don't get Oscars to take home, the producers do. In this case, where many of these shows have the on-air talent listed as producers (even though they are such mostly in name only), they only give it to the "real" producers.

They could, but the Emmy "academy" or whatever judging firm they use is only allowed to use the tapes of their work that come directly from the studio camera feeds.

Instead, they paid former on-air talent to sit next to the cameramen and take videos with their smart phones. Completely unfair.

"Additionally, many at ESPN thought the rule preventing on-air personalities from getting statuettes for a win by the show was stupid. They may have just decided to do something about it, the rules be damned."

Huh. Hypocrisy thy name is ESPN. Now all the people there can really take their moralizing and shove it where the sun don't shine.

"Kirk Henry (Kirk Herbstreit), Lee Clark (Lee Corso), Dirk Howard (Desmond Howard), and Tim Richard (Tom Rinaldi) appeared in all seven years. Steven Ponder (Sam Ponder) and Gene Wilson (Gene Wojciechowski) appeared in five from 2014-18. Chris Fulton (Chris Fowler) appeared in 2010, 2011, 2014 and 2015. Shelley Saunders (Shelley Smith)"

It's like ESPN gave them all porn star names.
