Need your help!?! (Michigan Mascot)

Submitted by matdog05GOBLUE on

Hello Everyone,

I need your help here... I had been working on woodcraft on few college cartoon mascots with sign language ASL (American Sign Language) like "ILY", "RTR", "WDE" etc.... With Michigan, I know there used to be Willy the Wolverine in the 20's and 30's. So is there any present Wolverine Cartoon that representing Michigan? If you can lead me to find them or something that would be great. Here some of my work gives you an idea.

a movement to get support for Willy in the early 90s, but it failed.  Not that Blocky the M running around the field was ever a winner.

I like being mascot free on the sidelines.

Wolverbear T-shirts, they love them.

It's a pretty cool retro logo that I don't EVER want to see on the sidelines.

Side note, wtf was up with the sailor cap craze that seemingly swept every damn college mascot back in the day?  Was is all just WW2  patriotic spirit?  I seem to remember a lot of them in pre-war photos as well.

EDIT:  Found a pretty informative answer to my question here.

There's the WolverBear, and there's the other wolverine alternate logo:

Inspiration from these inflatables maybe?:

You could use Willy, but I highly don't recommend it. My idea for you is to just do a cartoon Harbaugh, Bo, or football player.

That brings back unpleasant memories. There were a couple of tools behind the whole thing and, IIRC, they wanted about 99.3% of all proceeds (T-shirts, hats, etc.) related to Willy ... all in exchange for sharing their *great* idea with the athletic department.
