Nebraska Football investigated for NCAA violations

Submitted by Ma1zeandB1ue on August 18th, 2021 at 9:50 AM

Scott Frost and the Nebraska Football team are under investigation for holding off campus football workouts during the pandemic that went very much against the NCAA's requirements for practices and workouts during that stretch of time.

Brett McMurphy is breaking the story and while he hasn't provided specifics, he is saying that it is an "egregious" breaking of the rules if proven true.

The asshat rides again.

Personally, I've never lived in Nebraska, but have been there a number of times for businesses that I've acquired.  The people are great and Omaha and Lincoln a enjoyable towns.

Maybe your are just too young, naive or stupid to realize that almost every place has highly redeeming qualities and less than redeeming qualities, this goes for large cities and small towns.  And making blanket statements about locales that you know nothing about other than you have flown over a few times is boorish commentary that reflects poorly on not only you but everyone else around it.

Being around for a decade doesn't make your, and many other mgo-elitists, comments about rural/southern regions any less offensive.

When I was young I loved living in the city too. But when I was young I never disrepected those people who chose to live differently than I did. It's ok to like different things and live a different life.

I made a joke about fucking Nebraska.  If you don't like me as a poster be real enough to say hey db you're a twat and I think you suck. I'll at least respect that.

You crying because I made a joke about Nebraska? With all due respect,  piss off

Thats the last ill say on the matter. Mods sorry for mucking up the thread with this nonsense

Hey, I've been to Nebraska. Outside of Lincoln and Omaha, all I saw was mile after mile after mile of cornfields broken by the overpowering stench of large cattle operations. So I'm with you on the joking about Nebraska. I'm from New York City and people never hesitate to crap all over where I'm from, so please dish it out. America's heartland can kiss my urban contemporary ass.

Actually I dont think so IF they were legitimately conducting secret practices with the coaching staff to avoid detection.  That's a pretty bid deal and it's not like Nebraska is one of college football's sacred SEC cows or anything.

I think if true this will be very bad for both Frost and the program.

Get your tinfoil hats on!

Maybe the new AD is working in conjunction with the NCAA to help aid in the firing of the beloved Scott Frost, while still saving face?

I actually dont know if he is beloved or not? Either way Im interested to see if this will be a "death penalty" of sorts...the NCAAs track record hasnt been to great.

I think the critical factor here is that the practices took place in blatant disregard of pandemic-related rules—Nebraska's AD can use that to charge Frost with failing to properly safeguard the health of his players and staff during a time of medical emergency.

The question is whether any of the likely on-staff replacements are also culpable in this. If they were all in on it, then who would be hired to coach the team if Frost was canned?

Bring back Tom Osborne for one season to right the ship?

I agree. Nebraska 1) isn't one of the NCAA's golden boys and 2) the university may not fight it much because a) they'd like an excuse to get rid of Frost and b) they're looking at a rebuild anyway so it might be a good shot for the NCAA to make an example of someone

If this happened at LSU, they'd lose a few scholarships and carry on

Literally every program in the country was doing “player-organized” workouts with “planning” done by coaches. Literally every program in the country has analysts that are indistinguishable from coaches during a practice. The idea that they moved to an off-campus facility to avoid detection seems farcical to me...who paid for it, how do you keep 120+ people quiet about it for 20+ months, this is a nothing burger

If this was Alabama, Clemson, OSU, then yeah probably. But Nebraska is so down in the dumps right now that they are a program the NCAA could just decide it wanted to make an example of without really suffering any true consequences or backlash over.

I'm not sure this by itself is something that causes Frost to lose his job, but if its proven true I think it would mean that he effectively has no leash going into this season. He would probably need to win at least 8-9 games to be safe for another year. And that's going to be a very tough hill to climb with having Oklahoma, OSU, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Michigan all on the schedule. They also have to travel to MSU and as we know all too well, MSU always has a knack of weaseling out a win that they probably shouldn't have in any given year.

I would bet a significant amount of money that OSU wasn’t following Covid guidelines last season. The Big Ten just decided to direct the NCAA to Nebraska instead.

Dude what the F was Frost thinking? There was a better than 50% chance at that time there wouldn’t be a season. Practicing with coaches during a mandatory shutdown put down by the school, NCAA, and the state is just asinine.

When will reality hit Scott Frost that this ain’t the 90’s anymore dude, you can’t just hit people on a whim.

1. Why would the NCAA care about that? Nobody cared when the ACC carved the heart out of the Big East and the Big 10/Big 12 took whatever little bit of value the Big East had left while they were bleeding on the street. Nobody cared when the Big 12 cut the head off the SWC three decades ago either.

2. Players have their name and likeness rights, it's legal for them to get paid.

3. The NCAA has literally never won a lawsuit that mattered, their days of pretending they're the police are over.

Could anything be more predictable? Nebraska has been the whiniest, bitchiest, most hypocritical team in the league. May Scott Frost pay a steep price for his assholery.
