NCAA to allow a two-team PAC conference until 2026
October 18th, 2023 at 9:47 PM ^
That’s going to be a gauntlet. Just a best of 9 series every year.
October 18th, 2023 at 9:54 PM ^
What if one team just flat out sucks tho?
October 18th, 2023 at 10:09 PM ^
In all seriousness they should play 2 times, once at each team's stadium.
October 18th, 2023 at 10:32 PM ^
... and in the Championship game.
October 19th, 2023 at 8:49 AM ^
Neutral site, obviously
October 19th, 2023 at 11:18 AM ^
They could call it "The Scuffle in Portland" and play it there since it's right on the border.
October 19th, 2023 at 8:59 AM ^
They should play a home and home, then make it a road show, playing neutral site games across the country in rodeo style stadiums
October 18th, 2023 at 9:50 PM ^
Could we... do that with Rutgers and Maryland? Or maybe Rutgers and MSU?
October 18th, 2023 at 10:02 PM ^
Maryland and MSU.
I like Rutgers. Lol
October 18th, 2023 at 10:04 PM ^
What do you think the 2023 season has been so far?
October 18th, 2023 at 10:09 PM ^
ALL THREE.
October 18th, 2023 at 9:56 PM ^
I am living vicariously through my kids watching the Beavers this year. I have two kids there and so therefore they are my second team.
Shame that this is happening right when they get a great coach. As long as they have Jonathan Smith they are going to be a solid team.
Hope they land in a good conference when this all settles out.
I look forward to all the jokes in this thread.
October 19th, 2023 at 9:24 AM ^
Corvallis. The poor man's Eugene.
I jest. I have friends who have gone to both schools and made nothing of themselves.
October 19th, 2023 at 11:51 AM ^
Wish I had two more hands, to give this comment 4 thumbs up
October 18th, 2023 at 9:58 PM ^
How is this a conference instead of just a couple of independents?
October 18th, 2023 at 10:09 PM ^
More like co-dependents. Instead of a conference, they could just make a phone call.
October 18th, 2023 at 10:42 PM ^
I agree with the sentiment, but the fact that it IS a conference means they keep the pool of money the other teams were trying to get, which is awesome for them.
And also, independents suck, so even a 2-team conference is preferable to Notre Dame-style shenanigans.

Amen*
*With all due disrespect to ND completely intended.
October 19th, 2023 at 5:57 AM ^
I don't enjoy being the spelling/grammar police, but I'm pretty sure it's "disrespekt."
October 19th, 2023 at 9:40 AM ^
I've long had the impression 'disrespekt' was exclusively (or at least primarily) a spartie thing, especially since the beginning of the D'Antoni shoulder-chip era .
We may need to see if there's a MGoBoard consensus opinion on this.
October 19th, 2023 at 9:48 AM ^
I agree that's how it started but I think its usage can be expanded.
October 19th, 2023 at 10:57 AM ^
For both ND and MSU, the disrespekt is directly tied to a lack of awareness of their true standing or ranking. MSU thinks they are a peer. ND thinks they are still the straw that stirs the CFB drink. Calling each program out on their inflated self-worth is seen as disrespektful only by them. The rest of the world knows the truth is being spoken.
So I can accept a limited expansion of disrespekt to include ND.

I would tune in every week to see the same two teams going at it for a whole season. It'd be fascinating.
October 18th, 2023 at 10:08 PM ^
That would only be interesting for maybe the first game and the last game, if the series was tied
October 19th, 2023 at 10:57 AM ^
Are you kidding? Do you watch football only for the final score or bragging rights?
Watching the variations in success game by game would be FASCINATING.
Observers could speculate endlessly regarding the impact of variables changing game by game. From easy obvious ones like weather and injuries, to subjective unmeasurables like momentum or ennui, to player improvement over time. Of course most interesting would be the watching strategic changes in the play-calling chess match, particularly as you watched the playbook grow early in the season.
October 19th, 2023 at 11:58 AM ^
I agree with this, although I think a 9 game series is too long. I would schedule 5, and the 5th would have to be at a neutral site.
October 18th, 2023 at 10:05 PM ^
2 PAC lives
October 19th, 2023 at 6:09 AM ^
Close it down. Coffee out my nose.
Commie bastard
October 19th, 2023 at 6:25 AM ^
special week for you. going to the game?
October 18th, 2023 at 10:06 PM ^
HAHAHAHAHA the rats heading out to other conferences will be upset by this. No doubt, the reason for this current legal dispute is because departing members want to divide up the assets and kill what remains legally to prevent any renaissance of the once proud conference they betrayed.
Cougs and the Beavs shall live a little longer.
"Et tu, Brutus? ... or was it Troy?"
October 18th, 2023 at 10:07 PM ^
They need to go all in and make The Last Blockbuster in Bend OR their primary advertising sponsor. Instead of an Apple streaming deal, just distribute VHS tapes of their one conference game. Be kind and rewind!
October 19th, 2023 at 7:11 AM ^
Excellent cultural tidbit.
October 18th, 2023 at 10:13 PM ^
The ncaa is a very strange institution
October 18th, 2023 at 10:25 PM ^
Aw, hamburgers.
October 18th, 2023 at 10:27 PM ^
Dont care
October 18th, 2023 at 10:29 PM ^
Haven't they typically been a 1 or 2 team league anyways?
October 18th, 2023 at 10:31 PM ^
Everyone will be looking forward to Cougar Beavers after dark.
October 18th, 2023 at 10:36 PM ^
If Cinemax doesn't pay for the exclusive rights Cougar Beavers after dark, I'll lose the little faith I had left in corporate America.
October 18th, 2023 at 10:48 PM ^
Maybe Skinemax will be happy to air "Cougars and Beavers After Dark"
October 18th, 2023 at 10:41 PM ^
Are they going to try to entice the Gamecocks to join in?
October 18th, 2023 at 11:01 PM ^
With the Trojans gone, the Gamecocks might enjoy it a bit more.
October 18th, 2023 at 11:09 PM ^
Only if it's broadcasted like this. Ooohh, I saw a football and a player.
October 18th, 2023 at 11:11 PM ^
I miss analog TV!
October 18th, 2023 at 11:42 PM ^
The people under 30 don’t even get this joke.
October 18th, 2023 at 11:50 PM ^
If you were really clever, you could record to VHS and then freeze on the frame that showed a "score".
October 19th, 2023 at 12:36 AM ^
I can't get enough of Cougar Beaver. We'll get it so often that you may feel like it's being rammed down your throat.
October 19th, 2023 at 9:22 AM ^
The Cougars will be ready to play on Saturday night, while the Beavers prepare for some intense action on and off the field…
October 18th, 2023 at 10:34 PM ^
So can one team be half a league?
October 18th, 2023 at 10:42 PM ^
Would still be more difficult to win than the big ten west.
October 18th, 2023 at 10:52 PM ^
won't take long to figure out who's in the playoff
