NBA summer league Wagner, Walton, & Robinson day 3
Though the Lakers didn't win a game Mo put up some good numbers again in the summer league play. He had 14 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 13 points on 50% shooting including 2-4 from three. Foul trouble still seems to plague him as throughout the week he never finished with fewer than 5 personal fouls.
Robinson followed his 21 point performance with another strong showing recording 12 points going 4-7 from three. his teammate Walton also did well with 10 points and 7 assists without a turnover as the Heat beat the Kings.
Good to see them all performing. Walton got some play last year with the Heat and I'm hoping he can continue. It would be great to see Robinson also get some minutes in the league.
It's worth noting that in NBA summer league, you can have up to 10 fouls before fouling out, so it's possible that Wagner wasn't as careful to avoid fouls as he would be in a real game.
Wow I thought this was a joke, but you're right!
I also don’t really see it as a problem for him. If the Lakers want to use him this year, it’s probably going to be for like 15 minutes a game. He can’t get 6 fouls in that amount of time.
He can't? John Beilein would beg to differ.
Austin Davis would like a quick word with you.
That has always been my thinking as well. He'll have trouble defending guys and that could lead to some rough nights, but foul calls in summer league probably isn't going to be a great barometer for that.
I had no idea about that. Good to know. Thanks.
To be clear, I don't think there has been an issue, but the NBA put their summer league in Las Vegas?
The league is taking guys who are late teens/early twenties who in many cases suddenly have access to significant amounts of money and placing them in...Las Vegas. Interesting.
I think they've hosted in Las Vegas for awhile now.
I don't think it's a problem because most of these kids aren't guaranteed a roster spot, so they are focused on keeping their head down and working hard. If you aren't mature enough to resist Vegas when your livelihood in on the line, you're probably not mature enough to make it in the NBA.
To be clear, I don't think partying is "wrong," but you need an incredible work ethic to make it in the league as a borderline prospect.
It is a vacation for league execs too, who are evaluating the prospects there as well. I doubt they would choose Syracuse, NY(no offense to the good residents of Syracuse) to hold an event like this.
Duncan has been playing well. He's been showing teams that he's more than just a shooter and has been holding up pretty well defensively
A team could do worse than have a 3 point assassin like Robinson as their 12th man. Even if he is only their for specialty situations - most 12th men never get off the bench in non-garbage time.
I've been impressed as well. He's a decently sized SG/SF and appears to have NBA range from outside even under duress. There's a spot for a guy like that in the NBA, even if it's deep on the bench. I hope he gets a shot.
Duncan Robinson going off here. With at least one nice dish from Walton. I've been watching as much of these games as I can.
I watched the laker heat game. Wagner didn’t look great but announcers talked him up all game long. Meanwhile Duncan looked the most like an nba player making 5 or so threes and I think only missing one and even drove to the basket and dunked. Beilein’s putting a d3 player in the nba, who woulda thought...
Duncan has been killing it from deep. Hopefully he can keep this up and earn himself a specialist role
Nice to hear the guys are doing well in Summer League. And way to go, Duncan. Show 'em what you got!
