Because people like Bando exist.

Oh look, he's whining about another thread in the 2017 Florida game thread-

Might want to check back in 8 months or so? Doubt anyone is really ready to be scoping out bars and hotel rooms and such when the 2016 season isn't even over yet...
It's amusing to me that someone who is such a devout critic of threads rarely makes any.

You're really circling the wagons today. That's fine. Going from thread to thread breathlessly trying to prove a point to yourself can be fun.

I don't make a lot of threads because I don't feel an urgent desire to start a thread every time something comes to mind. That's all. You're welcome.

So how about this, WD. A proposal, if you will. You quit running from thread to thread calling me a troll, and I leave you to your own devices in recruiting threads. Because, basically, you've staked that territory for yourself, there's no room for criticism, and there's nothing anyone can do to change your mind about anything. It's your world, we just post in it. Enough.

OK, here's my insight on this, if it isn't already clear:

I prefer a world in which a teenager's social media presence isn't something parsed over by people who don't know them. And where the moment a person sends their enrollment deposit to the University and shows up on an internal university directory isn't a moment eagerly reported as news. Etc.

That's the point. Recruiting is enough of a circus as it is, and fans trying to insert themselves into the process (the snake-eating-its-tail scenario, too, in which recruits feed off of it) only makes it worse. There's a reason Brian and other mods have to continue to nail it into people's heads that tweeting recruits is bad. Starting threads every time a recruit instagram-follows someone they met on a recruiting trip only makes the situation worse.

We've seen on this board (from Brandon Brown to that Bobby kid with the crazy blog and everything in between) what happens when people get too close to recruits, and feel entitled to a relationship with a person that both doesn't exist and should not exist.

Yes, we're all starved for information--but sometimes it's worth taking a step back and saying to yourself "is this really information that says what I think it says? Is this information I should really be spending my time seeking out? Is this information that, if shared, helps Michigan, and more importantly, helps the student athlete?"

Might be an unpopular opinion, but the reason why there are a lot of folks who have a bad taste in their mouth about following recruiting is because so much of it comes off as so weird. This is an intensely personal choice for a student-athlete, and as an alum/fan (technically, by NCAA definition, booster), I'm not supposed to be a part of that process.

Eh, your whole point is moot. Yeah, social networking sucks, it's annoying recruiting has turned into this, but taking a high and mighty stance changes nothing. You can tell people not to tweet at recruits, again, it does nothing. This is the new norm. Accept it or stop yelling at folks to get off your lawn.

I don't see it that way, and I'm not the only one. Tweeting at recruits, truly, is always bad. It's not the "new norm." It's not even up for debate.

Following recruits? I wouldn't do it, but that's up to them if they want to allow you to do so. Tweeting at them, however... Never good. Let the coaches do their jobs recruiting a kid.

Yes, of course, we live in a world of social media, but that doesn't give everyone a blanket pass to take advantage of every inch of it. "Everyone does it" is just an excuse. These are teenagers. For the most part, we're adults who do not know them or their families. Reasonable people should have boundaries about that, no matter how much they love their team.

How about you hold your breath until everyone in the world acts their age? You couldn't pay me to have a legit twitter page, nor do I want to communicate with high school kids, but I'm telling you - we are in the minority. It's not even close. I mean, there are even people imitating others - see the recent Kyle kalis issue. It's crazy, but it's here to stay.

I mean, Brian has a tag for this:

http://mgoblog.com/category/tags/dont-tweet-recruits

And has openly backed the 11W guide to this:

http://www.elevenwarriors.com/college-football-recruiting/2014/06/36419…

I would say it isn't the minority--all the right people have been very vocal about how fanbases should (or, rather, should not) interact with recruits on twitter.

So, I won't hold my breath on this, thank you. Maybe I should have articulated it better from the start in this thread, but it's something I feel is worth pointing out no matter how many times you have to point it out.

I'd be willing to do that as a social compact befitting the dignity of the eminent turd ferguson.

And, really. Turd and Ferguson are proper nouns, and should be capitalized. And that monocle--who are you kidding, man? No self-respecting MSPaint dandy would dare don a monocle that didn't even have a fully-drawn rim. DISAPPROVE. #waeutm

Here's a revised proposal: stop trolling and I'll stop calling you out on it.

Everything I have to say to you is a reaction to what you say about me.

Why you just can't skip a thread that doesn't interest you but you feel the need to crap on others is just beyond me. I don't post in the Game of Thrones threads because I'm not interested.

I dont get it, why do so many people give WD crap for being on Social Media.  Twitter/Facebook/Instagram are all designed for kids 16-26, Facebook started as a college only platform.  Personally, when I did Twitter  I wanted as many followers as possible, thats the point, to create a following because people like what you are or have to say.  There is nothing wrong with WD or anyone else following kids on Twitter, talking to them is another story.  Besides, whens the cutoff??  I don't ever see any one comparing when Sam Webb or TVH comments on a recruit on Twitter, so its ok to talk about HS football players on Twitter but not follow??  You don't have to be on twitter or ‘get it’, thanks to WD/Brian/et al. I don't have to be on twitter all day looking for small things, I come here and the information is provided for me.  I just think its time to let go of the tough guy Internet act people……

That'll never happen they're everywhere. What I don't get is that we're all fans of Michigan and we find more people on here to argue with and belittle. Lastly, I would like to say we should all be just a little excited to have the possibility of gaining the #1 player in the country, two years in a row. GO BLUE and keep doing your thang WD!!!
