Not to mention the Michigan directory is meant for the university community to be able to conduct university business, not stalk when an athlete has enrolled.

Honestly, I'd love to see the blog institute some kind of privacy policy when it comes to content posted on recruits and student athletes. If it's information gleaned from what basically amounts to stalking, should be a no-go.

I'm 3 years removed from high school. I still know people who are in HS from when I was in HS.

Hilarious to me.

Plus, these recruits are getting the coveted verified blue checkmark on their twitter account, something celebrities have.

Even 2018s have them. Time to get over yourself if you think following someone on twitter is "creepy", when about 50,000 other people who are mostly all older than me are doing so.

It's just the usual trolls like Bando, finding something to complain about because I started the thread. Must have had a rough high school experience or something.

See, I don't know if I agree. Yes, this blog follows and covers recruiting. But it is not primarily a recruiting blog. Traditional recruiting sites aren't going to bother with UFR, they're not going to host content breaking down wide varieties of sports, they're not going to aggregate the amount of non-recruiting material Brian and co. do, etc.

MGoBlog, to me, is an aggregator of a lot of different information and draws a wide variety of readers--many of which, like me, don't particularly follow recruiting, but are attracted by the other kinds of content therein. That's the difference. It's an MGoCatchall, not solely a place to find any particular kind of information. And that's the best part.

In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages In an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal, on-topic discussion,[3] often for the troll's amusement.

I don't find his comments inflammatory. An example of an inflammatory comment would be to tell all the twitter stalking millenials to find their safe spaces because they can't handle a dissenting opinion.

His response is on-topic. I don't think he's trying to provoke anyone just for him amusement. That doesn't fit with his posting history. Heaven forbid someone present an opinion outside the hive mentality/groupthink that grips this place sometimes.

For not being a troll, he's doing a damned good impression of one.

I honestly don't understand what the big deal is.  We are fans of Michigan football.  Michigan football rises and falls with their recruiting fortunes.  Ergo, we follow the ebbs and flows of recruiting as fans.

How are we supposed to do that, exactly, if every time we pay attention to something a recruit does it's "creepy"?

Somebody has to do it. We found out earlier than the media did about Hawkins because I checked once a day and he was the only guy not in.

Actually I don't think we have to do that at all. We'll find out soon enough if a kid isn't on the team.

If you want to be one of the 50,000 people following a recruit on Twitter . . . I think that's kind of weird, but OK, whatever.  At least the kid is voluntarily putting his thoughts out there.  But searching through the U-M directory to find a kid's profile is getting into creepy territory.

After wasting 30 mins on Wilson....I'm done with recruiting this year. I don't follow kids on twitter and I don't pay for subscriptions. I'll check MGoBlog about 5-6 times a day and look for Hello posts, but until they enroll or signing day i will just wish all kids the very best with whatever they choose. Go Blue and hope for the very best class possible.

but I don't follow recruits and I don't watch their announcements. I do get the feeling that a lot of these kids want fans to follow them on twitter and watch their videos. Maybe I'm being a bad fan for not doing so. I think what deserves criticism are the negative comments people make about these kids on social media. The other stuff like WD does, I don't know.

I'd love to give you copius amounts of shit for this but I truly do love the passion and if I were 25% less busy I guarantee you I'd be doing the exact same thing as you. Keep it up

Probably doesn't mean much, but you can bet your ass if the roles were reversed and he was a Michigan commit recently following Alabama guys, we'd be totally freaked out.
