Musings after rewatching the spring tape...

Submitted by OldSchoolWolverine on April 21st, 2024 at 10:45 AM

For those of you who miss Michigan Replay on Sunday mornings and have rewatched the spring game this morning, I wanna chime in on more observations...

#97 is Anwunah, not Ike.  Anwunah sure looks the part.  So does Koumba.

Dunlap did ok. I had said he will be rb3 but now I take it back.  Hall did fine.

And Samaha, the kicker...  He's peeking on his kicks, head comes up way too quickly.   This is is amateurish. Once he stops peeking on the kick he should be fine, but this has to be corrected.

Waller is gonna be a plus player. This I don't see a single weak spot on defense, other than the Rod Moore loss.

Our wr room is good...  Not sure we need a portal player.  We have four good wrs, don't overlook OLeary, and with the two TE, and perhaps Tonielli, I think we're ok there.

Orji looked better than expected, considering they wouldn't call plays to his strength. Warren is steady.

Look, if I just make a comment inside one of the other threads devoted to the spring game there’s a good chance you plebes might miss it and it’s vital that my terribly important thoughts are seen by the widest audience possible, hence a new thread containing my musings and my musings only.  I’m baffled that the great unwashed can’t understand how critical it is that my thoughts are front and center in this discussion.

OP probably.

That thread comes tonight during the FoxSports2 rebroadcast (8-10 pm) of Michigan's spring game.

But wait!  There's more!!

There's additional rebroadcasts (FS1, FS2, and BTN ---check your TV listngs!) at 1:30 am and 6 pm Monday, followed by one more Tuesday @ 3am.

Plenty of opportunities to share your thoughts, aftertoughts, overreactions, musings, paranoia, and hallucinations.  Grab your worry beads, everyone!

Oooooh, I'm all over the "My hallucinations after a rewatch of my rewatch of your rewatch" thread:

"I saw the Four Horseman astride mighty stallions galloping down the field at Michigan Stadium cheered on by the zombiefied corpse of George Gipp, except it was Ronald Reagan playing George Gipp and, look, there's the chimp from Bedtime For Bonzo speaking in tongues while reading from an ancient text foretelling the end of creation. And, lo, the names of the Horsemen were Death, War, Pestilence, and Urban Meyer, and just as they reach the redzone, the Horseman are set upon by a pack of thirty-three angry wolverines led by Hugh Jackman, and there is blood--so much blood--but the Horsemen are vanquished. Then, with a shower of sparks, a great platform emerges at the fifty yard line, the M on the field thrust skyward, and on it are Murderwolf, the Yay Girl, and Lloyd Brady signing "The Victors" in the purest of harmonies, and, also, Orji would've scored on that last possession but the ref who called the play dead was Hitler, and not the old, beaten down, withdrawing from smack and trembling Hitler from the end of the war, but the young, vigorous, optimistic-looking Hitler from the MSU Jumbotron and fuck that dude. He's history's greatest monster."

To be fair to OP, the spring game opinions thread immediately devolved into people attacking one another over QB stats. I appreciated the separate thread just for the sake of having a better conversation.

Of course this one immediately devolved into arguing about whether it deserves to exist, so maybe not all that valuable, either.

You gotta admit that on this board the life cycle of a thread is short.  I often have commented on posts like a half-to-a-full-day later and it doesn't seem like anyone is interacting anymore.  The good back and forth discussion occurs early in the thread not long after it is posted.

In my opinion, in this case it is not a horrible thing to have a fresh thread to beat the Spring Game to death.  What else more interesting is going on at this time?

Maybe we should have created Snowflake threads like is done for all games.

Michigan made the top-4 for in-state 2025 OL Avery Gach last night. Michigan, Michigan State

(his parents are both alums), Ohio State, and Wisconsin. He has 100% of the crystal balls on 24/7, 3 of which have been made within the last week.https://www.mlive.com/wolverines/2024/04/michigan-msu-make-top-4-for-in-state-4-star-offensive-lineman.html

Based on degree of difficulty, Warren was the standout. Dunlap also popped to me. We will probably lose him to the portal if he doesn't see decent playing time coming this fall. Other teams can see what I saw way better than me.

I have fewer concerns about receiver than I did before yesterday.

Seemed like most of the projected O Line starters were not playing?

Don't want to panic about the kicker, but we'll need somebody to push him.

Coachspeak.  They were trying to lull OSU into a false sense of security.  The mind games start in April, kidd.  Also, I do not have any clue what I am saying, as I did not watch the spring practice scrimmage, two-hand touch game.  I was busy planting my garden and got to see Lewis Black's farewell tour last night.  I am going to miss that guy.

I didn't watch the ND spring game but apparently their jumbled OL with a bunch of new starters gave up 7 sacks.

At least we didn't see that in our spring game. Their DL is a step below ours but it should be one of the top units in the country none the less and their OL lost jus6 about as much as our.

Waller looked great. Cole Sullivan looks like he’s going to be great and get some run possibly this year.

Still nervous on the WRs. I don’t really see any great WR talent. Moore could, but seems like all of them are speedy guys. I think a big body WR would do them well.

A little nervous with Orji.

Marlon Klein looks like he’s going to be a monster mid way through once he gets it.

Dunlap is still 4th string? My understanding is 1/2 Don and Kalel, followed by Hall. I also would like to see Cabana once he works through his thing. Was also hoping to see Marshall get a few plays as well.

Agreed. Even if the current WRs played out of their minds yesterday, UM still needs a bigger jump-ball receiver and probably 2 at that. They did fine with a few nice highlights from Moore and Bell but they need a few more pieces if only for depth.

I really would’ve like to have seen a 1st-team Offense go a series or two vs 1st-team Defense, with Orji and Warren getting a shot to find a rhythm. I know there are some injuries on both sides but I think that would’ve added a little spice. Orji seems too quick to leave the pocket and he didn’t seem comfortable throwing on the run. Warren had the better day IMO but I have feeling he’s not making his reads quick enough and that could lead to an increase in sacks.

Unless a clear separation occurs from now until fall camp, I bet the team goes into a Cade vs JJ type competition and rolls with the QB who makes the fewest mistakes regardless of talent. That defense should be able to dominate most games they play ahead of the down & distance.
