Monday Night Drinking Thread: A Nice Tall Glass of Buckeye Tears

Submitted by jimmyjoeharbaugh on December 4th, 2023 at 8:27 PM

I have been checking in on 11W here and there recently, and caught this forum post today noting that it's not just Honda McCord leaving, but basically every first string offensive skill player! QB1, WR1, 2, 3, RB1, TE1, more.

Looks like a rebuilding year ahead in Cbus? (Although I assume they have a stable of 5 stars 2 miles deep to draw from, and some comments noted that some of these players may not leave after all)

Anyway just imagining the potential of keeping the streak alive for the next couple years, it's a sweet long drink of Buckeye tears

You must drive a Honda. You're dwelling on the positive parts, and missing the joke.  It's a great insult when contrasted with Maserati Marv.

And because McCord rhymes with Accord, which of course is a Honda.  They are relatively low cost economy sedans, no-frills, everyday driver type vehicles.  There are no other car models that rhyme with his name better, so it's perfect.

It’s curious.

Day left MCCord kind of hanging publicly. This is your 11-1 QB who you selected as your QB1. His words were not encouraging heading into bowl practice and McCord immediately walked. Then Fleming who is the only returning WR starter walks?

Now Day needs to portal hunt a new high end QB or develop his roster. Either way if this move doesn’t work he could be writing his swan song.

Seems possible Day knew McCord was portal bound, thus he was noncommittal about him starting in the bowl.

In a now-deleted post, someone (I think a Buckeye poster) said Kyle's dad asked for a promise that his son would be the starting QB next year and Day would not guarantee it, thus he left. I've decided to accept this story as fact because I have no issues spreading baseless rumors about OSU.

Herbstriet literally seemed baffled by McCords move. Obviously he is connected to the program and said OSU has more kids heading out the door whatever that might when it comes to contributors.

Cade won a Big Ten Championship but I think it was clear that JJs potential was the future. Maybe OSU had the same thing but not if they are portal hunting. This one just seems like McCord saying fuck this shit.

Can't wait for Cam Ward to end up being OSU's QB after obvious tampering and huge cash offer and for OSU fans to continue to call us "cheaters" and act like their program is clean

I'm more curious what OUR two-deep looks like next year, to be honest. They're going to have talent. That's a given. I want to know who's going to be facing them across the battle lines next November.

I REALLY hope that one of them is JJ. I think he'll be the straw that stirs the drink if he comes back.

Can someone please fill me in on the “Honda McCord” backstory?

I asked in another thread, but it was taken down. Hope I don’t kill this one 🤣

Thanks!

Balvenie 12.

Hoping Team Chaos still has unfinished business in Columbus between now and that big Missouri- OS-who? game.

Depending on how OSU does in the portal, next year's squad might have the least talent in Columbus in nearly a generation.  It will certainly be the least proven in that long.  I could be convinced the Fickell transition year was an exception.  OSU has relied forever on having talent a full letter grade above the conference, and they had accomplished coaches in Tressel and Meyer.  Talent in terms of new player recruiting is tighter now, but the portal and NIL have been a great equalizer for Michigan.  OSU with four and five stars behind five stars has kids leaving if they don't play.  Coaching now counts a lot more, and we're a full letter grade better at that.

Belmont Station in Portland.  Nice tap list and bottle shop where I just dropped $100 lol. Merry Christmas to me. A tap barleywine from Fort George named Etymology. Times two. And a smashburger.

Very telling that the Fucks are focused on their 'skill' guys and not their trenches. I have a buddy, high school trench guy, who gets so pissed off at the skill position term. He's right. Trench guys have skills too.
