It can be a mixed bag at times.

I have two at home, and there are definitely days where they make you want to pull your hair out and you tell yourself "Just X more years until they go to college, just X more years until they go to college," but in my experience those moments are far outweighed by the joy they bring.

Far and away the hardest job I've ever had is being a parent. But its a great job.

we had 6 of ours home yesterday, including two that are in college or have graduated, and it was wonderful.

we live in a time where people apply for debt, which is a curse, yet do everything in their power to not have children, which (or 'who', depending your grammar leanings) are a blessing.

seems backwards.

I won't proclaim to know everyone's situation, and for my wife and I having kids was absolutely the right decision, but I'm sure there are plenty out there who for them, not having them is the right decision for them. Could be a wide variety of reasons, and those reasons probably won't ever be our business.

I know we're getting into a whole other discussion that probably isn't appropriate for this forum, but I don't think everyone is meant to have kids. And that's okay. Some people just flat out do not want the responsibility and have a hard enough time taking care of themselves and their significant other.

I think it's simpler than that - my wife and I chose to have kids and we were fortunate that we were able to have three au natural. Some can't biologically, some struggle mightily, and some just don't want them; that is totally fine by me, although I do sympathize with those who struggle. We are very happy and fortunate to have our family of five plus a doggo.

Someone else's family situation is none of my business and is a waste of time for me to consider. For Mike and his girlfriend, I hope it brings them great joy. Good people tend to be good parents, so I am sure Mike will be a good dad (don't know about gf but I would put money on Mike having a solid partner).  FTR, I don't know Mike either except for seeing his actions on and off the field.

I hope his girlfriend has an uneventful pregnancy and labor. Cheers to the three of them.

Reminds me of the birth announcement of Erick All’s child. Kid was born exactly 9 months (to the day) after the victory over Ohio State.

Congrats to Mikey!

Congratulations to him and his girlfriend. Minor nitpick: I don't mind if they say "he and his girlfriend are expecting a child," or "his girlfriend is pregnant," but it bothers me when a couple says "WE are pregnant." I know, I know, language evolves, but I'm old and set in my ways.

I don't think it's traditional to say "we are pregnant" is just wrong. After all, only one of you has to actually carry and birth the kid, not to mention all of the body changes that come with it.

Definitely approach it together. Physically one person is doing all of the heavy lifting, and understanding that and acknowledging it is a pretty good start.
