*the best part of the picture is that Horst is actually the guy in the gray shirt on the sidelines

That’s not holding. I don’t know what you are talking about. Hahahahahaha. I guarantee that wasn’t called.

*Holdst
February 21st, 2023 at 2:23 PM ^
It's not holding in the last two minutes of the Super Bowl...
February 21st, 2023 at 5:33 PM ^
Not called for holding? Must have called strangulation instead.

When I clicked in, I immediately thought, "How is Morris being drafted before the NFL draft...?"
That was, uh, not well done by the Panthers...
February 21st, 2023 at 3:23 PM ^
....on the other hand, maybe their PR guy is a Michigan fan and wanted to make sure that Morris was front and center in the pic - which they did!

The Blue Wall strikes again
February 21st, 2023 at 5:31 PM ^
Hope ESPN picks up on this to complete the sequence.
February 21st, 2023 at 6:49 PM ^
I have to believe he was just trying to keep Morris out of THE Tunnel. I've heard bad things happen in there.
February 21st, 2023 at 1:43 PM ^
He'll undoubtedly be Staee's most successful #1 overall pro pick since Tony Mandarich.
February 21st, 2023 at 1:52 PM ^
AKKKKKKtually, the Incredible Bulk/Bust was the #2 pick, sandwiched between Aikman and Barry Sanders, with Derrick Thomas and Deion Sanders going 4 and 5, respectively.
Mandarich truly was the Darko of the 1989 NFL draft.
February 21st, 2023 at 2:07 PM ^
HEY NOW THAT'S MEAN
I'll have you know Darko actually played nine years in a professional league (not counting kickboxing or farming leagues).
February 21st, 2023 at 2:13 PM ^
AND won an NBA championship his ROOKIE year.
He reached the pinnacle his first season and couldn't find the drive anymore (j/k, even at his best he surely wasn't a great 2nd overall pick. But was he any worse than say, Anthony Bennett? Ignoring the "compared to the people taken after him" part)
February 21st, 2023 at 2:08 PM ^
I don't think I knew all the people taken around him. That's incredible.
February 21st, 2023 at 2:19 PM ^
I think I could make the case for Darko being an equally bad pick as Tony M was. Look at the 2003 NBA draft top five. If the Pistons take any of the next three instead of Darko their run at the top of the east goes much longer IMO than 2008 when it all came crashing down.
Lebron James
Darko
Carmelo Anthony
Chris Bosh
Dwyane Wade
February 21st, 2023 at 2:34 PM ^
it's really hard to believe they didn't fuck that up on purpose.
I remember being mad about that draft pick. Carmelo should have been in Detroit.
February 21st, 2023 at 2:53 PM ^
IRC, the Pistons were coming off a Tashaun Prince breakout year and they were happy with Billups and Rip in the backcourt so (I think) taking Carmelo or Dwyane Wade would have been redundant (pls don't laugh too hard). My memory is fuzzy but this us what I remember from Detroit sports radio.
Ugggggghhh
February 21st, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
Ah. I think I see your problem...you listen to Detroit sports radio.
February 21st, 2023 at 7:33 PM ^
I remember hearing Terry Foster report (on Detroit sports radio) the Pistons were going to take Chiris Bosh if Darko wasn't available. Carmelo or Wade wasn't on their radar.
February 22nd, 2023 at 6:47 AM ^
Darko had a ton of buzz before the draft. The ESPN draft guys raved about him. He hadn't gone to the predraft camps but apparently put on a show in individual workouts. It was said that if not for LeBron, he'd have been a #1 overall pick most years.
There's a lot of revisionism now and people act like Dumars made that pick on a whim. Darko was absolutely considered the #2 prospect in that draft at the time.
February 21st, 2023 at 2:56 PM ^
This makes me cry... I remember that Dumars felt he had a free pick and wanted the huge upside that Darko promised. He knew the risk of being blinded by potential - and it cost him a career...
February 21st, 2023 at 5:21 PM ^
I think the Ben Gordon and Charlie V signings cost him his career, especially being as it was the year *before* arguably the best free agent class in NBA history.
February 21st, 2023 at 2:27 PM ^
Mea culpa...I forgot he was taken at the same spot as another big Staee draft bust Charles Rogers.
February 21st, 2023 at 3:21 PM ^
Truly incredible to look at Mandarich among that Top 5.
Even more incredible to realize the Lions were NOT the team to select him.
February 21st, 2023 at 1:54 PM ^
RIght?!? Wait ..............what?
February 21st, 2023 at 2:41 PM ^
Well they're obviously close friends.
Just think, every time he gets caught holding he and the team will have the opportunity to revisit this.
February 21st, 2023 at 3:11 PM ^
I'm sure the MSU AD is currently calling the USFL to try to get this disrespect corrected.
February 21st, 2023 at 3:21 PM ^
The disrespekt is REAL!!!
February 21st, 2023 at 3:49 PM ^
I don't get it. Does the USFL draft before the NFL draft and it is like saying hey, no NFL team will likely take you, come here?
February 21st, 2023 at 4:24 PM ^
I also came here to ask this.
