MBB: Coaching candidates?

Submitted by amir_6 on
Anybody who comes to mind if Warde decides to encourage Beilein to retire? Love the hell outta Beilein but I think it would be wise for him to retire, in hopes of maintaining his legacy here. The Program needs new energy.

Glad to see few, if any, defending him here. The glory years were a lucky flash-in-the-pan. Congrats, you raised our expectations tenfold. Now: succeed or retire.

You guys realize we were competing for NIT bids every year prior to Beilein. I understand the frustration. But we are in a much better situation and I don't like these threads bashing our coach. Until he retires, let's not throw coach under the bus, 200 wins!

So we are basically back where we started after 200 wins.  The team has stepped backwards every year over the last 3 with more returning than any year in resent memory.  Nobody is bashing him, they are just being realistic.  At this point if things continue the basketball program is going to be in worse shape than when he took over.  Maybe we should have kept Hoke because he won the Sugar Bowl his first year and only missed one bowl Game opposed to two bowl games like his predecessor?

Wasn't long ago he took us to the NC with a 3 star PG turned best player in the country under his guidance. Great evaluator of talent, great developer of talent and leader for a sport that is 2nd class in it's own school. Will be tough to go against Izzo, Coach K, Cal, Williams, Boeheim, anyone who coaches UCLA, AZ, UConn, Indiana, etc. without a great evaluator, developer and offensive mind like his. He's revered by about every current coach (including Harbaugh), former coach, analyst and his teams always improve as the season goes. Relax, take a pill and remember the times before him.

Stop!!

The past has nothing to do with what we can be in the future. If that's the case, MSU should have never been a powerhouse in basketball and Florida in football. You should strive to be better than you were before. Set a target / expectation and go after it. What happened under TA or BE means nothing!!

Besides I DO remember the times before him...in the 80s and 90s. We were so much better then.

I am torn because I agree he has had some really good years. The issue is the kids he recruits are all hit or miss. Which leads to lot of good years, but also opens us up to awful years. If we want more consistent years it is probably better to go with another guy.

To defend Beilein he is doing what he was hired to do. Run a clean program. His bosses hired him because they wanted to clean things up. He has been successful in that and shocked people a couple of years.

Obviously David Brandon was a terrible AD. HOWEVA, I am really starting to wonder what the hell Warde is doing? It is like he is the George Costanza of ADs.

We're gonna find out about him very soon. Hockey he'll definitely be making a hire.

Sat on his hands with soccer with the second worst coach on this campus right now.

Got Adam Steinberg BACK weeks after he left U-M for ASU in tennis. A great coach who has turned around the program in just 2 years.

Gregg Marshall has been to the final four and had that ridiculous record the year after where they lost 1game.

His buyout is only $500,000, or, what Stephen M Ross wipes his butt with.
