Looking back at what you thought
Near the beginning of the season, someone posted a message asking the followers for their predictions on the upcoming season. It is an interesting read in what people were thinking.

I fucking called that win over Ohio State.
Go Blue now and forever
November 30th, 2021 at 8:59 AM ^
You rock Darker Blue! You also called out that 4-8 prediction. LOL. There were so many negative comments in there it is funny looking back.
November 30th, 2021 at 8:32 AM ^
I was thinking 9-3 (but secretly thinking 10-2). Couldn't be happier that even my expectations were surpassed. Still doesn't seem possible what this team has done.
November 30th, 2021 at 8:37 AM ^
...or could do for that matter. The season isn't over by a long shot.
November 30th, 2021 at 9:33 AM ^
I was thinking about the same. I thought covid would be an outlier, and Harbaugh would be back around to where he has usually been in his Michigan tenure. Lose to OSU and lose 1 or 2 others to good teams. People were dreading the OSU game just last week, and sure it would have sucked to lose again, but I already felt like this season was a success.
November 30th, 2021 at 9:40 AM ^
I was in the 9-10 win camp as well. I was confident that Covid year was a fluke, and that we would see a regression to the mean under Harbaugh which is about 9.5 wins a year.
But there were obviously a number of question marks, like whether the new staff would contribute at a high level right away (YES), whether we would find a competent quarterback (YES), whether we would be able to shore up some of the weak spots in the secondary and interior DL (YES), and so on.
To do better than 9 or 10 wins meant all these things had to go right. And somehow, they did.

Someone needs to buy The Mayor a drink.
November 30th, 2021 at 9:01 AM ^
I am giving The Mayor +1 Everytime I see him post. Dude called it.
November 30th, 2021 at 8:35 AM ^
I picked this one out as amazing as well - though the 'glad we aren't playing Iowa' now feels, both, a little scary and kind of awesome.
November 30th, 2021 at 8:36 AM ^
Impressive
most impressive
November 30th, 2021 at 8:38 AM ^
2021!
November 30th, 2021 at 9:06 AM ^
This dude gets all the flowers. He called our record and the “best” team in the west (I still think Wisconsin is the better of the two, but Iowa is pretty good)
November 30th, 2021 at 9:58 AM ^
I was really rooting for some Minnesota magic down the stretch would’ve been awesome double trophy game. As it stands we can exact revenge for Wilton Speights clavicle
November 30th, 2021 at 9:27 AM ^
I hate to howl at the moon like this, but can you imagine how it would have been vs sparty with Ronnie Bell healthy? A difference maker, maybe we're 12-0...
November 30th, 2021 at 8:34 AM ^
It wasn't that thread but I think I said 8-4/9-3, with a better chance of going 10-2 than 6-6. I figured they'd beat most teams but lose to a couple and absolutely did not see OSU being one of their scalps.
I will say the doomsayers in that thread were something - lots of "we'll lose to NW" despite not understanding NW lost virtually their entire team.
November 30th, 2021 at 8:36 AM ^
The "sure losses" to Wisconsin and PSU are really fun.
November 30th, 2021 at 8:37 AM ^
I said 8-4. I thought I was being optimistic. So glad I was wrong. The BPONE was strong in me. But I’m feeling much better now.
November 30th, 2021 at 8:40 AM ^
Oh, man, Michigan Arrogance, this didn't age well:
"a lot of ppl this time of year want to build a happy little bridge of “IF” to 9-3. That’s fine but I’m not gonna drive over it.
just recognize 2 things:
- the bridge of “IF” is NOT leading to 11-1 like many years in the past. It’s leading to 3 losses. Lots of things need to go right to get to 9-3
- No one actually stands on these bridges -IWO, with real stakes and so many ifs I’m not sure many people would predict 9-3 knowing that that “gun to your head” will be after the season"
November 30th, 2021 at 8:41 AM ^
Not gonna front. I was predicting 8-4 with all the big losses (OSU/PSU/Wisc) and a heartbreaking random loss to either UW, MSU, or at Nebraska.
Glad to be very wrong
November 30th, 2021 at 10:49 AM ^
That's what I had with the 4th loss being to Washington.
November 30th, 2021 at 8:41 AM ^
I had no idea so I didn't make a prediction. This team felt like it could be 6-6 or 11-1. You just had nothing to go from and there were so many changes.
I'm just enjoying the ride.
Beat Iowa!!
November 30th, 2021 at 9:58 AM ^
I feel like a fucking idiot. I wasn't a doomer or anything, but I didn't think there was anyway we could turn around the defense that fast and improve our OL enough to make 10 wins possible. I didn't post in that thread, but I was thinking 6-6 or 7-5 with 8 wins being the max.
This is why I don't bet money on shit lol
November 30th, 2021 at 8:41 AM ^
OP, you're a couple of days behind:
https://mgoblog.com/diaries/how-surprised-are-we-look-back-our-season-predictions#comment-244366681
Admittedly, it's hard to keep up with threads at the moment.
November 30th, 2021 at 9:04 AM ^
That's on me. I've had this saved all year and wanted to wait a moment for a lot of the posts to die down. Had I seen the linked post, I would have kept this in my back pocket.
November 30th, 2021 at 11:13 AM ^
Youre fine. This is easily the most active the board has been in creating posts in years if not ever. Stuffs getting pushed off the front page almost immediately
November 30th, 2021 at 8:42 AM ^
I'm not sure if I made an actual game-by-game prediction; however, I said that basically, it was now or never with JH. The excuses weren't flying with me about how this is rebuilding, etc... No situation in college football will ever, ever be perfect. We've had SO many seasons where everything lined up perfectly, our best players were seniors, and we had our biggest rivals at home- and still didn't get it done.
I was just at the point of being done with the excuses.
I'm glad I ate my words about him never beating OSU.
November 30th, 2021 at 8:43 AM ^
That thread is what motivated me to get 200 MGoPoints so I could downvote all the people saying worse that 8-4.
November 30th, 2021 at 8:44 AM ^
Also...
Obligatory "The season's not over! We have 3 more games. Onward! Beat Iowa and on to the semifinal! #PlayoffMentality."
November 30th, 2021 at 8:47 AM ^
Seconded. Beat Iowa.
I want that banner.
November 30th, 2021 at 11:10 AM ^
They need to change the locker room sign temporarily:
"What are YOU doing to beat Iowa today?"
November 30th, 2021 at 8:44 AM ^
Where is The Mayor???? Check this one out:
"10-2… Not buying Indiana, Penn State or anybody else other than OSU. I’m inclined to say 11-1… If anybody thinks last year was some harbinger of things to come, they are not really paying attention to the talent on this team. Especially on the offensive side of the ball and where it counts defensively. The front seven will make up for the weakness in the secondary. I also think Dax Hill will be the playmaker we need back there. Glad we aren’t playing Iowa. To me they are the best team in the West. This year feels like one of those years where Michigan sneaks up like 97 and 06… "
GLAD WE AREN'T PLAYING IOWA. I love this. I'm glad we ARE (now).
November 30th, 2021 at 8:45 AM ^
One take that caught my attention was WichitanWolverine offering to eat a lemon out mGrowOld's ass if his prediction that Michigan would go 10-3 came to fruition.
So we have that to look forward to.
November 30th, 2021 at 9:04 AM ^
Ha ha ha. I don't want to see that. He or she backed out of it with his last sentence saying something like "not really, but you get my drift". Saved himself or herself from an embarrassment.
November 30th, 2021 at 9:09 AM ^
I noted that one as well but I am sure any alumni from the law school could argue that said eating of lemon would happen with a 10-3 season and that Michigan did not finish 10-3.
November 30th, 2021 at 9:11 AM ^
We aren't 10-3. We are 11-1.
WichitanWolverine is clean
November 30th, 2021 at 9:15 AM ^
I mean, there's no chance they go 10-3, so I think we're safe.
November 30th, 2021 at 9:25 AM ^
Darn. And I was so looking forward to that.
The irony is I was mocked for my insanely cockeyed optimistic call of 10-3. But even I erred on the negative.
November 30th, 2021 at 8:46 AM ^
Someone in Wichita is hungry lmao
November 30th, 2021 at 8:58 AM ^
You've got it all wrong. He was predicting 14-1, thus not 10-3.
November 30th, 2021 at 9:09 AM ^
Hmmm...sketchy loopholes are still loopholes I suppose.
November 30th, 2021 at 9:12 AM ^
Wichitan has an out. Michigan didn't go 10-3.
November 30th, 2021 at 11:06 AM ^
I think the spirit of the prediction was "No way is michigan doing as well as 10-3. Michigan will not win 10 games."
Intent is everything. Someone needs to eat a lemon out of someone's ass. And that someone is clearly witchitan.
November 30th, 2021 at 8:48 AM ^
I posted 14-1 national champs. Something must have gone wrong with the site.
November 30th, 2021 at 11:34 AM ^
Post was removed for trolling ;)
November 30th, 2021 at 8:50 AM ^
I predicted 11-1 with a loss to Wisconsin. Boy do I feel silly.
November 30th, 2021 at 8:51 AM ^
All I know is that I think MSU is the most prescient here, offering Tucker $95 million, where he may end up being the only coach to beat the National Champion Michigan Wolverines this year.
November 30th, 2021 at 9:08 AM ^
Now I am actually OK it happened that way. If we can throttle his ass every year for the next five years, without his once in a lifetime RB, we made them overpay for someone and we went on to B1G championship. And they lose a lot of money. All good and they can whine for the next 5 years.
November 30th, 2021 at 10:10 AM ^
Agree. I'm getting a strong Charlie Weis at ND vibe here. I mean, Tucker has them playing as mistake-free as I can remember, but I think they'll be regretting that huge contract mightily in just a few years.
November 30th, 2021 at 10:03 AM ^
Actually seemed a tad desperate on their part…I am very much hoping it blows up in their face…but they stepped out of all that title 9 issues relatively unscathed. Did the president there ever do anytime for all that corruption?
