Llewellyn RS approved.
Adds some back court depth.

Good, we are going to need him. I hope he is much more aggressive this year attacking the rim.

I do not see him getting any playing time. Dug, Love and Burnett are going to take 95% of the minutes-and rightfully so.

They could run more 3 guard lineups. Get your best players on the court. If Jaelin is one of the top 7-8 players, he’ll get minutes. If he’s shooting near 38.6% from 3 like he did as a sophomore at Princeton, he’ll play. If he shoots 30% like his junior year, he won’t (at least I hope not.)

This. If the frontcourt guys are not getting it done, or the matchups dictate it, absolutely go with a 3 guard offense. At least part of the time. It also might introduce more fast break opportunities - something lacking this past season.

We had 3 "guards" this year, not by choice. Everyone saw how that worked out. If Jaelin is even equal to his play last year, he will get minutes, and I suspect he'll actually be much better. We also have nobody established to play the 3, which will soak up some of Nimari's minutes. Getting Jaelin back is very useful and he will play.
He's getting PT. He's backing up the PG and SG position. Burnett is a 3 for Juwan.
And Love was a trainwreck at the 1 and is supposedly coming here to rewrite his story for the NBA where his future is as a 2 guard. Llewellyn should be our back up 1 and 2 and get plenty of PT.
Michigan fans last fall " you can't survive with only 3 guards!"
Michigan fans today " this experienced guard won't play bc we have 3 guards already,"
Especially because of the way they constantly were unable to close games out and beat the press with several ball handlers. You could potentially put Dug, Love, Llewellyn, Burnett out there at the end of games to dribble out clock, all 4 can initiate offense, and not get stuck where every end of game possession is a complete debacle.
I think Burnett is playing the 3. There is an opening for a first guard off the bench. Llewellyn's competition for that will be George Washington III.
Dug is going to be playing about 38 min per game.
No they're not. This is a terrible take.
That math doesn't even add up in a 2 guard lineup. You play more than 3 guards. So even in a 2 guard lineup you're talking about minutes at PG backing up McDaniel with Burnett presumably backing up Love.
But as of today, Burnett is starting and all signs point to a 3 guard lineup. And with that you get something more like this to start the season...naturally the starter will all gain minutes once you get to conference play.
C: Reed
PF: Nkamhoua*
G: Burnett
G: Love
PG: McDaniel
C: TBD*
PF: Jackson
F: Williams
F/G: Khayat
PG: Llewellyn
PF: Tschetter
F/G: Ja. Howard
G: Washington
(OUT: Glenn, Dickinson, Baker, Bufkin, Barnes, Je. Howard)
--------------------------
Minutes (depth chart):
C: Reed - 23
PF: Nkamhoua* - 22
G: Burnett - 24
G: Love - 31
PG: McDaniel - 30
C: TBD* - 16
PF: Jackson - 17
F: Williams - 15
F/G: Khayat - 0
PG: Llewellyn - 22
--------------------------
Minutes (ranked):
1. Love - 31
2. McDaniel - 30
3. Burnett - 24
4. Reed - 23
5. Nkamhoua* - 22
6. Llewellyn - 22
7. Jackson - 17
8. TBD* - 16
9. Williams - 15
He's your first guard off the bench in a 3 guard lineup. That's a lot of minutes.
If Nkamhoua comes here instead of his other options, he is going to want to, and will, play more than 22mpg
Khayat is not a guard and he’s getting more than 0 MPG.

Yes, I think he can be a solid depth piece on this team and a rotational player. If they can get an impact 4 or 5, they can be a decent team this year IMO.

He might look like a completely different player with the offense not running through Hunter. Let's hope so.

Fingers crossed for some healthy, consistent PG play this year.

I'm not convinced he is the answer but the coaching staff must because we went through the trouble of getting the redshirt approved. I am keeping an open mind for 2023-24 - hopefully the change in team chemistry will yield positive results.

I don't think he is "the answer" but I do think he will provide solid depth and PG.
Even if he isn't coming back and is getting a "firm handshake" (no indication of that just a hypothetical), I would hope the coaching staff/AD would help him secure his redshirt so he can move onto another school for his last year. It's the least they could do for him.

Torn ACL recovery is no sure thing. I hope he returns to full athletic capabilities in time to contribute early and often next season. Veteran guards are a luxury in today's MBB environment.

Happy for him that he gets another shot at it. Had he been playing early in the season while Dug was still finding his footing, we could very well have been a tournament team. Welcome the depth.
I'm down. He struggled last year but his presence alone shores up a backcourt that only had 3 pieces - Dug and two transfers in Love and Burnett.
Seems like we could use a back up for Tarris and/or some other talent in the 3-4 positions, where I feel like there are bodies but no clear answers. There's T. Jackson who would be a good 4 but reports say he's not a good 5, and then it's T. Will, Jace, Tschetter, Khayat
He didn't play well, but we could say that about all of our transfer point guards early in the season. We run some sophisticated stuff and it can take time to get comfortable. He didn't get that chance because of his injury.
He should know the system a lot better now. The question now is whether he'll be physically ready.
Is it that sophisticated though? I think our transfer guards struggle early because we keep taking guys who are moving up to the Big 10. Ivy league to us is like jumping from JV to Varsity in talent level. True freshmen Dug looked better than Lewellyn in his first start. Either Dug has a higher basketball IQ than our elite academic school PG transfers or our offense isn't as complicated as we think.
The team really suffered when he got hurt - they lost a big part of their guard depth and a steady hand. He's not going to be a star at UM or anything but I think people read way too much into 8 games from an up-transfer and my guess is he'll be a solid performer next year.
I did not think he was a particularly steady hand. It was early but he was bad last year when he played. Hoping he adjusts and plays well this year but he would have easily been supplanted by Dug last year based on his play until he got hurt.
Compare him to Mike Smith or Devante Jones after 8 games and they're all sort of the same guy then but those other two figured it out.
He's a former top 100 recruit who was a 2-time all conference player in the Ivy Leagues. He's a good player and hopefully if he bounces back from his surgery he can play well enough to be a veteran, average conference guard. That would be great for this team.
*NCAA actually doing the right thing Muppets*
To me this one was an easy one for them to approve. The ones that aren’t crystal clear, like with Baker, are the ones they always screw up. Baker played four games, late in the season for a total of 18 minutes, due to an injury of another player and gets his denied.
some good news but man do we have any clue how good or bad the 2023-2024 team will be. I can legit make a case for 2nd place finish and a 10th place finish
really depends what kind of piece they add at the 5 - right now, they're closer to that 10 line then the 2 but if they can get a splash transfer then I wouldn't be surprised if they exceed preseason expectations.
This is obviously great news. He can run both the one or two. Dug came a long way this season, but I wouldn’t write Llewelyn off at the starting one spot. He’s bigger and has more upside. Again, Dug came a long way and it’d be tough to put him back on the bench. It’ll be interesting how this plays out over the course on non-conference play
The Dug-Love-Llewellyn-TWill-Reid starting 5 is gonna be 🔥
Can't tell if this is way off or a weird joke I don't get.
I wanna see that group cook, for sure
Going to see how his knee responds. Tough to slot a guy in to minutes coming off an ACL. He struggled last year before tearing his knee up. Uphill battle imo
Great.
It was very llikelly to happen, but ya stillll llike to hear it.
