Tanner Lee is baaaaaaaaaaaaad. Not as bad as Nebraska's OL, but he's bad.

People always talk about RR's UM teams improving...vs. Hoke teams. RR's started from a historically bad season..there was no where to go but up. Hoke started with an 11 win season...and he was a bad coach so of course he went backwards. Which is better...hell who cares? You could put them together and still not have a decent coach.

So you're saying they met in the middle? Mediocreville.

but it was a great hire when he came on and just about everyone recognized it as such. Mike Riley was a head scratcher from Day 1

They should just offer Troy Calhoun what it takes and go back to the last offense that really worked well for them.

If I were Nebraska I'd hire him ASAP. Seriously. He clearly made a difference at UCF, just bring him in.
They need to hit on a guy like that. Frost is their best shot. Riley was... I didn't understand it then and it's falling apart now.

But we are 3 - 0 and that's the most important stat. On another note, Chase Winovich is a beast. Was it me, or were they running away from him, and at Gary?

Had to watch the game in a sports bar and drink beer to not look like a schmuck so my attention was a little intoxicated. I didn't order overpriced package with BTN. However, just about every time I remembered to watch for Gary, he was double teamed. I wouldn't run at Chase in a one on one and I'd definetely run at Gary who is being double teamed. I'm still buzzed though.

He had some pretty bad misses today, but also there were some bad drops too. I think Speight has "I can't throw any more INTs anxiety," and doesn't fully trust his young receivers.
While no one likes a game where AF is still in it in the 4th, this team is "getting old" in a hurry. By mid-season, for better or worse, this will be a team of old veterans...

Hate to admit this, because I almost never do it, but I picked against Michigan in my weakly pool. I was very confident we'd win, but far less confident we'd look good doing it.
September 16th, 2017 at 3:56 PM ^
that was a "week" pick

Good point Faux, this team is being galvanized with these games. At times I feel like this is Hoke era but then you remember how young these cats are and that this coaching staff isn't anywhere close to that Hoke staff. This team will be mean down the road. No doubt. That Higdon run and DPJ punt return brought me back to reality. That shit never happened with Hoke teams unless Denard got loose.

Every QB has a couple misses a game tho. I think he's pressing a bit. Frustration is showing. he wants to make a great play he wants to make the perfect throw. He wants to avoid the pick. The problem is, he's thinking about that stuff at times instead of just playing the game

I think Speight has "I can't throw any more INTs anxiety," and doesn't fully trust his young receivers.
I totally agree. I think this is part of the red zone issue--without deep space everything is compressed, and every throw is into traffic. Speight has made these throws before, but in the games Michigan early the only way Michigan is threatened with a loss is with a bad INT. So he goes cautious. Throwing it away. Throwing a lot of those fades that aren't terribly accurate but are designed in such a way that if his receiver doesn't get it, nobody has a chance at all.
Combine that with receivers that aren't yet as crisp as last year's experienced crew, and their inexperience in getting open when Speight is scrambling, and you have some tough windows.
You're dead on, IMO.

How does playing Air Force not tell you anything about our offense and special teams? If you said it doesn't tell us anything about our defense you'd have a good case.
September 16th, 2017 at 4:56 PM ^
Offense: red zone playcalling needs work, and a lot of it. Oline still a work in progress. Speight still being refined, still learning, still gives us the best chance to win.
Special teams: kicking game looks to be in great shape. Punting is starting to become a concern. Return game has the potential to go the distance or fumble. #Freshmen
Defense: the defense adapted to an exotic offense and played great. There was a time around these parts when a mobile QB spelled DOOM. Names like McNabb, Dixon, Edwards, Williams, Randle El, the list goes on, still make some of nauseous. Don Brown will not be out schemed. Period. ! Exclamation point !! 2 exclamation points
This team is exactly what we thought it is, they will compete for the Big Ten championship. Much like last year they will be a few breaks away from either winning the conference and going to CFP or being a 2-3 loss team that played hard and left it all on the field
Calm the fuck down people
September 16th, 2017 at 3:47 PM ^
Not sure I can agree on Speight. I felt like he showed promise last year, but in my mind he has regressed. I feel like the O-line is as big a problem as he is though. Still feel like this team is a year away.
September 16th, 2017 at 4:03 PM ^
Because we don't want to finish 3rd in the division for the 3rd straight season. Finishing 3rd is "not that bad" but our team goal is higher than that.
September 16th, 2017 at 4:43 PM ^
Speight has some serious mental/physical issues.
He has had a complete breakdown in his footwork, both in and out of the pocket, when under any sort of pressure.
September 16th, 2017 at 7:59 PM ^
Jesus Fricking Christ.
Let's establish a baseline here. If Zarniwoop faced for thirty seconds what Speight faces every day in practice and on Saturdays, Zarniwoop would defecate in his fucking diaper like a baby in terror and cry for a week afterward.
Is Speight the reincarnation of Tom Brady? No. But neither were John Navarre or Brian Griese until their senior year.
Fuck off with your dumb-ass armchair diagnoses.
September 17th, 2017 at 1:22 AM ^
Griese came before Brady. That doesn't take away from the fact that he was a substantially better quarterback as a senior, which is a point on which you are correct. But your chronology is all wrong.
September 16th, 2017 at 3:35 PM ^
We're 3-0, no one has come closer to us than 16 points, and our defense is punking everybody. Our offense is pretty meh, but it was meh last year and we came within about an inch of making the playoff.
