Ryan Day is their biggest customer.

Where does Jim Leonard go now? He won't stay after being passed over.
November 27th, 2022 at 3:48 PM ^
Matt Rhule would be wise to get him on the phone ASAP. He’ll be a popular DC candidate for sure. Wouldn’t be out of the question for him to throw his hat in the ring for the Cincy HC job, but I think there’s a few other names they’d prefer over him.

Green Bay DC

One of the Michigan insiders said Leonhard could be a possible replacement for Minter if he were to leave for the HC job at Cincy. Clink was the other guy he mentioned as DC.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:04 PM ^
I wouldn't hate that.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:06 PM ^
agreed. he's their Kovacs (with a better pro career to boot)
November 27th, 2022 at 4:18 PM ^
We need to do what it takes to keep Minter a few more years. That Baltimore defense has been the key to beating Ohio State. I really do not want to change defensive schemes when we just slayed Goliath
November 27th, 2022 at 4:48 PM ^
Twice! (With the Ravens D)
November 27th, 2022 at 5:32 PM ^
Right. So unless John is willing to loan is MacDonald again or something this could be really bad news.
I understand Minter is young and an amazing defensive mind, I was just hoping we could have him for 3-4 years. :(
November 27th, 2022 at 5:42 PM ^
Maybe he would be groomed to take over for Harbaugh, our Harbaugh.
November 27th, 2022 at 6:18 PM ^
I have advocated for that a time or two on this site. I know it was only 1 year, but he's clearly a good coach with potential. I feel defensive-minded coaches who can stop modern day offenses are very rare. Offensive minded coaches are a dime a dozen.
If Minter became a head coach, he could very easily find a competent offensive coordinator to handle that side of the ball.

Well given that Jesse's dad, Rick was a very successful coach at Cincinnati for a long time. I'm not surprised to see the younger Minter being mentioned for that job. I echo sentiments of other people though and that I hope he doesn't leave. I'm afraid some coaches might leave to join Biff at Charlotte.

I'm afraid some coaches might leave to join Biff at Charlotte.
I don’t think we’re really in danger of that happening. Position coach at Michigan is an upgrade over position coach or coordinator spots at a school like Charlotte. At most you’re looking at some younger analysts being given on-field roles on Biff’s staff.
Biff would do well to get ahold of former analyst and current Ravens defensive assistant Ryan Osborn. By all accounts he was a great mind and players loved him. If Elston were to leave for any reason, I would be in favor of brining Oz back. Maybe he’d be interested in a DC/DL gig on Biff’s staff.

Let’s not have 4 DCs in 4 years, we got pretty lucky that we did not have transition this year, think you start playing with fire at some point. I hope he stays for a bit and then leaves.
November 27th, 2022 at 6:40 PM ^
No. We need Minter to stay, and at worst a DC involved in the amoeba D
November 27th, 2022 at 3:46 PM ^
I’ve heard Minter is receiving early interest from Cincy. Honestly that’s a job that seems like it would have Brian Hartline’s name all over it.
November 27th, 2022 at 3:59 PM ^
Just looking at the Cincy 247 board it seems the majority of the posters want Minter first with Hartline second. Harbaugh needs to get Minter a raise ASAP.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:19 PM ^
Absolutely!! Michigan does not their 3rd DC in 3 years. Clinkscale could very well fill those shoes but I don't want to see these coaching dominoes impact any of our coaching staff assistants.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:24 PM ^
Hartline being an ace recruiter with (obvious) ties to Ohio just seems like a match made in heaven for Cincy. One would think he’s a better fit for recruiting and PR purposes than Minter would be.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:42 PM ^
The state of Ohio sticks together. They would break up Michigan's staff before the touch OSU. Everybody know Hartline would be a better choice than Minter but Minter would weaken the team up north so
November 27th, 2022 at 5:08 PM ^
I highly doubt an entirely separate university is tanking a coaching search to help a different school
November 27th, 2022 at 5:17 PM ^
I don't think anyone at UC cares about how hiring away OSU's WR coach might affect OSU.
November 27th, 2022 at 5:08 PM ^
Hartline made a blustering, boastful talk to tOSU students about how aOSU coaches don't make blustering, boastful talks.
So maybe he's a good recruiter but maybe too he's like his boss Ryan (Tryin'?) Day, believing talking tough matters more than preparation and execution.

Wonder if UM will target Cincinnati’s 4 star safety commit out of South Bend High?
November 27th, 2022 at 4:37 PM ^
Fickle will turn out to be Frost. Book it.
November 27th, 2022 at 5:34 PM ^
Fickell isn’t a Wisconsin alum. Otherwise I tend to agree. I’ve never been a fan of him even though many on this site had them as No. 1 should JH had left or gotten fired.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:38 PM ^
Leonhard failed his trail run by losing to a 5-7 MSU team and losing games to the big rivals (Iowa and Minn). He needed to beat one of those rivals - period. Nebraska would be a good landing point, unless the Illini DC get a HC job, then shift to work for Bert. Staying put is not likely an option.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:46 PM ^
He was handed the job in the middle of the season. I can't imagine there was a "Win these games or else!" standard set. It seems more likely that they were observing how he handled the team and all the HC duties.
November 27th, 2022 at 4:51 PM ^
There has to be a significant OSU "do not compete" clause in that contract.
November 27th, 2022 at 5:27 PM ^
Isn't that the clause Day was following; "do not compete"?
November 27th, 2022 at 5:19 PM ^
All I can think is Wisconsin is going to look better already next year.
November 27th, 2022 at 5:29 PM ^
I bet they’ll be great against the run.

Man, Kerry Coombs must be a real sweet talker behind closed doors.

To me, Luke Fickell looks like someone who cries easily.
