Juwan: “no plans to leave Michigan…dream job” on Jalen and Jacoby show
On ESPN’s Jalen and Jacoby show, Juwan said “in Ann Arbor to stay. This is a dream job for me. … Go Blue.”
A wonderful bit of news to head into the tourney.
Also worth pointing out is how well he uses his national TV interviews for recruiting. If you're thinking about coming to Michigan, there's a lot to like in this one.
Hes my dream coach!
Greatest comb over ever in a movie, possibly of all time ?
What about Gene Keady?
Why did you post a video clip of Dana Holgorsen?
I'M SO HAPPY
You think he would tear up if he became the head coach of the Hawks? He is positioning himself to be that Coach K, Izzo, Calipari type. In college basketball you can turn the table in your favor before the players ever step on the court. The NBA is kind of mess where "coach of the year" guys are out of a job 24 months later. Build that dynasty young man! You brought the Fab 5, our first top recruiting class in decades, top 5 teams in back to back years. Lets go!
feels like we are getting WAY ahead of ourselves again
lets get to the final four before we all anoint him as a HOF coach.
Where did you read anyone anointing him as a HOF coach? I read him positioning himself to be one of those coaches. Which, it’s pretty clear that he’s positioning himself to have that kind of career.
I wonder if he called up Jalen to go on there and say this.
I hope Coach Howard did because it would show some forward-thinking savvy from Coach Howard to leverage Michigan's alumni connections and end rumors before they take on a life of their own.
He seems to be on a mini pre-tourney press tour right now. Makes sense since they’ve been sitting in Indy since last week.
He did the Dan Patrick show yesterday and said something similar about staying at Michigan. His former dream was to coach in the NBA though, so I still think it’s possible (or perhaps even likely) that he will take a job at some point.
I would expect him to coach Michigan for 3-5 more years minimum before that happens though. Only caveat being if they win an NCAA title or two and he gets offered a top flight NBA gig (Lakers, Celtics, or perhaps Bulls since he’s from Chicago).
I never had a shred of doubt! HAIL HOWARD!
Given that his son is coming here, I would say he would stay at least another 5 years. Hopefully, he stays at least 20 years.
Agreed. My belief is he wants to coach his sons through college. Once they are done, then the NBA could be a real option, but I do not think it would happen before then.
He did an interview just this season saying the NBA is in his future, just not now. So do with that what you will.
Well he did this interview just today, so I'm going with this one.
Huh?
Do you have a link?
If I'm thinking of the same interview and remembering it correctly...Coach Howard said "The NBA is in the past."
Oh Jesus fuck, I'm a moron... I read "it will more than likely happen again" as "I will more than likely be in the nba again". Disregard and I will punish myself as I see fit...
Edit: Could also be that I read it right at the time but BPONE has twisted my memory.
Thanks for finding and sharing the link.
And no worries on the mix-up. It happens.
He'll stay until his sons are gone. Then, the allure and $ of the NBA will win out. Let's enjoy this while we can, he's amazing.
He made $150 million in the NBA. I don't see him leaving for money. He loves UM.
We should put a poison pill in his contract that says his NBA buy-out is 10x his salary and give him the entire Athletic Department's annual revenue as his salary.
Yes, we lose softball, baseball, gymnastics, wrestling, and that concussion-laden sport (among others), but....Juwan.
I was 12 years old when we were introduced to Juwan Howard. It feels surreal that my 12 year old now calls him "Coach Howard". Juwan Howard will go down as one of the greatest Michigan Men of all time. I guarantee it!
Well, being able to say "Juwan Howard is the coach of Michigan basketball" is something I would love to be able to say for a long time, so all this sounds fine to me, of course.
Just to be safe how about tripling his salary?
Also Jalen, "I had Michigan as a 99% chance of winning it all. Without Livers, it's like 95%"
Ha ha ha!
Wonderful news. An excelent recruiter and tactician, and you couldn't ask for a better face or brand for the program. Players also would run through walls for the man.
Stay many years, Juwan!!
For those in the he will stay for the Jace and Jett crowd.
So 4 more years.. Will he be a hot commodity then? I'm sure NBA guys will say he's just been a college coach for 7- 8 years and the game is gone?
NBA owners have attention spans that can only be measured in nanoseconds.
I still won’t blame him if he eventually gets that itch to win at the highest level. But if he wants to win a national title or two here first, that would be preferable.
How about we enjoy him and his team and let the potential NBA future remain in BPONE where it belongs??
I hope this honeymoon lasts for a long time.
He has already built up so much goodwill and exceeded the most optimistic of expectations.
