Journey to 100,000 Open Thread

Submitted by 2Blue4You on
With 3,000 tickets reportedly unsold by the Athletic Department and Stubhub featuring plenty of tickets under $10 ($7.74 the current low) we knew it would be close.

Couple that with flights not going in or out of Metro and icy road conditions closing down 14 EB currently and I see a lot of people sitting this one out.

Things are warming up on the south side of Ann Arbor and the beer is on ice, errr at Meijers still. Layers are out and rain jacket is pressed. Who else is pumped for Senior Day and half off hot dogs?

Snow sleet ice rain.Cold windy and wet. Our seats were covered in ice! Cokes sliding off of them. 5-0 we win. 60,000 in the stadium that day. Announced attendance was over a hundred thousand. If you were there like me, you laughed your ass off. It was a fun game. Started at 1pm. I am NOT going today because of the 3:30 start. But I gave my tickets away to Michigan fans. Go BLUE!

I'm planning on being there, but I couldn't give tickets away if I wanted to...driveway and walks are sheets of ice.  It is starting to warm up just a bit, but from what I'm hearing, it is treacherous out there.  I really need to cheer Devin one more time.

Be careful folks, and Go Blue!

I'm still considering going...I don't have tickets but think I can swing one on Stubhub for $8. I kind of want to cheer on our seniors and also prove that I am a TRUE FAN (with borderline hypothermia).

Driving down from Saginaw. Not looking forward to the weather conditions but my wife and I are probably saying goodbye to our seats. It's sad but I can't justify paying for season tickets with the schedule and games like this selling for under $10

If I lived near Ann Arbor, I'd definitely try to go.  Some of my best memories of MIchigan football are the miserable weather games where I sat in glorious misery screaming my head off for Michigan.

See my signature line.  Football here in Tucson is not right.

If there are 3,000 unsold tickets, that should mean that 106,000 were sold.  So we're in the clear.  The announced attendance is not a count of the people actually there but of tickets sold plus all the passes (press, field) given out.

Man, wish I was there. Fandom Endurance III was so fun (and my last game as a student), would love to pick up #IV. I mean, obviously it sucked at the time, but now it's a pleasant bit of nostalgia...

3,000 unsold, plus the 4,700+ on stubhub plus the 300-400 on ebay = 8,000 or so still available online. 5,000 or so won't attend due to a combination of shitty weather, below average opponent, and below average record. 4000 or so students won't attend because they just don't feel like going(I can't blame them at all) adds up to about 17,000 empty seats.

So, 109,901 - 17,000 = 92,901

add 4000 for stadium staff, media, and vendors = 96,901

MAYBE, that many.

I never thought I would see this day.

but that's a technicality and not really the issue. People don't care if every ticket is sold and literally nobody shows up. Literally. Imagine if every home game had every possible ticket sold but nobody went. That's not "selling out" but not "X consecutive games with over 100k to watch a football team play". The latter is what people care about. If half the stadium is empty, it will be news. They won't fall back on "well, the tickets were technically sold or had....fans just didn't show so it's cool". That's not the point or concern. Also, yes, I think we've had UM games during the streak go under 100k in the stadium. A few. Purdue one year was definite, IMO.

is the day they won't announce the attendance. When the few (by %) people that notice it went unannounced start asking they will have it cooked up to 100k somehow unless it's beyond obvious. If half the stadium is empty then no but if it's even close they'll announce it.

My Dad and I are going as usual. I really want to see Devin get a win on Senior Day. Screw the weather and Go Blue!
