Is there a stat that has total transfers by school? I think it would be interesting to see how many Michigan has compared to other school the last few years.
December 4th, 2019 at 6:35 PM ^
Well, that's too bad. I had high hopes for him. A very highly ranked LB from IMG Academy. Given his lack of playing time, maybe this is the best decision for him. Best of luck to you Jordan.

Doesn't get more southern than Silver Springs, Maryland.
December 4th, 2019 at 6:46 PM ^
Silver Spring, MD. "Silver Springs" is a town in Florida or a song by Fleetwood Mac
December 4th, 2019 at 10:51 PM ^
Yes, although it’s Fleetwood Mac’s fault that everyone calls it Silver Springs instead of Silver Spring, as Stevie Nicks got the name wrong when she saw the sign on the Beltway.
(I’ve had to correct WAY too many people on the spelling of my town.)

MBHS?
December 4th, 2019 at 7:14 PM ^
Maryland is a border state. A blend of Yankee/Dixie.
December 4th, 2019 at 10:05 PM ^
Plus one for you WD
December 4th, 2019 at 6:39 PM ^
He is from Maryland, dipshit.
December 4th, 2019 at 7:12 PM ^
I’m having a shitty day and Sparty Doesn’t Know cheered me up.
Anyway, best of luck to the young man. And this freed up a spot for Harbaugh to go after an under the radar Ball St. recruit. ??
December 4th, 2019 at 7:35 PM ^
He's from Macomb County, said it here many times.
December 5th, 2019 at 12:15 AM ^
On my phone it looks like a drawing of Kevin Smith in a Michigan shirt.

Can someone re-rank our recruiting classes post transfers? Stunning what has happened over past 3 seasons. Some very highly regarded players:
Asiasi
Wahington
Woods
Sims
St Juste
Solomon
Hudson
Singleton
Anthony
Not to mention a bevy of others who may not have been impactful.
December 4th, 2019 at 6:48 PM ^
This happens to all schools.
December 4th, 2019 at 7:38 PM ^
It does, but not quite at the level Michigan has been experiencing them. 25 according to this article from a few months ago. For reference, Ohio State has had around 20 transfers the last few years, and they are much more of a football factory than Michigan.
December 4th, 2019 at 7:52 PM ^
Penn State had 23 last year alone.
December 4th, 2019 at 7:57 PM ^
I mean, that list spans a couple of years. I have no idea if the OSU one is over the same range, but I don't know if anyone can read too much into 5 more guys transferring/leaving the team.
I think the transfer portal is good for both players and teams, and unless you have just a massive number of guys leave, or a concentration of them in a particular class, I don't think it speaks negatively about anyone.
December 4th, 2019 at 9:00 PM ^
We had over 10 guys leave from both the 2016 and 2017 class.
And 7 guys from 2015.
December 4th, 2019 at 9:24 PM ^
penn state has had a ton as well. Not sure what if anything it means.
December 4th, 2019 at 6:49 PM ^
Asiasi got homesick.
December 4th, 2019 at 10:30 PM ^
How much of this (at any school) about a high school stud gets to college and finds out he’s not going to start?
December 5th, 2019 at 9:44 AM ^
I'm sure that factors into it quite a bit, but look at Jordan Anthony. Major assumption: you have to think that he liked Michigan, at the very least, because he stuck it out for 3 seasons, but wanted his senior year to be one where he didn't ride the pine and/or was closer to home (we'll see where he ends up - somewhere on the east coast or mid-Atlantic?). Can't begrudge him that.
December 4th, 2019 at 7:17 PM ^
Isn’t that what the 24/7 team talent rating does?
December 4th, 2019 at 9:52 PM ^
Yes lol
December 4th, 2019 at 7:34 PM ^
From the 2015 through 2017 classes we have had 30 total transfers that I can count.
December 4th, 2019 at 8:05 PM ^
They all got beat out save Asiasi?
Solomon could have hypothetically helped but it’s not like he did a ton at Tennessee this year.
December 4th, 2019 at 9:00 PM ^
If you are suggesting that you put out a list of “highly regarded recruits”- wrong Your list doesn’t represent that. Get used to lots of transfers of guys not playing early or likely not to in the future
y
December 4th, 2019 at 9:30 PM ^
It really isn’t that stunning overall. Yeah a few head scratchers, but most of the guys see they won’t get significant playing time. I totally get it
December 4th, 2019 at 6:48 PM ^
I'm not surprised. He wasn't playing next year either. Best thing he could do was to find somewhere else to start over. One of the things I like about the transfer portal is guys like him may get a chance to play if he can't make it where he is.
He's played when asked, he's never said a cross word, best of luck to the young man.
December 4th, 2019 at 9:06 PM ^
You're not surprised one of our highest ranked players didn't produce jack shit and then transferred?
December 4th, 2019 at 9:49 PM ^
He’s behind McGrone and Ross. You think that’s not a reason for “Jack shit”?
December 5th, 2019 at 12:22 PM ^
I'd imagine he's saying at this point, he's not surprised he's transferring since he hasn't produced. Recruiting rankings miss all the time and it's not like we're in bad shape at linebacker or that we've shown an inability to develop linebackers
December 4th, 2019 at 6:54 PM ^
That's 11 from the class of 2017 that was ranked #5. Four on the dline, not including JaRamond Hall which I cant remember if he was offense or defense. Wonder why our dline is thin, look no further than that class.
December 4th, 2019 at 7:01 PM ^
Hall is an OL
December 4th, 2019 at 7:03 PM ^
Ok, so we lost 4 on the dline then. Not blaming anyone, it just sucks and we felt it this year and will again next year.
December 4th, 2019 at 7:09 PM ^
The 2017 D line class is shaping up to be like the disastrous 2013 O line haul.
But hopefully it doesn't take them 5 or 6 seasons to build back up the D line like the O line took.
December 4th, 2019 at 7:13 PM ^
I'm hoping we find a few more Danna's until we can recruit our way back out of this hole.
December 4th, 2019 at 8:55 PM ^
Well, they signed several last year, including top recruits Mazi and Chris Hinton. I know many on this site love to be negative but how about some reference to facts.
Okay, I just read that last sentence and feel foolish but I remain an optimist.
December 4th, 2019 at 11:47 PM ^
And if the transfers werent bad enoughCorey Malone Hatcher from 2017 Dline class had to medically retire
Fucking aye that dline class looked amazing on paper but has been shit
December 4th, 2019 at 7:04 PM ^
I remember thinking that he and Singleton would great LBs here.
December 4th, 2019 at 8:14 PM ^
Ross was better, and then along came McGrone the next year and he was better too. It was always inevitable that some of the LBs in that class would lose out on playing time and transfer.
December 4th, 2019 at 7:07 PM ^
Rutgers Im sure could use him
December 4th, 2019 at 7:19 PM ^
I'm a big Jim Harbaugh supporter but he's gotta figure this shit out with retention. McGrone didn't even really get a chance until Josh Ross got hurt and I can't imagine how many other younger players were probably capable but just didn't get the chance. I'd bet he addresses it and figures it out.
December 4th, 2019 at 7:25 PM ^
I been saying it all year, the back ups never play. The boards gonna say just becuase their not ready but look at Ambry and Mcgrone. Them two were ready and im sure theirs plenty who can play in spot situations to give someone a breather.
December 4th, 2019 at 7:43 PM ^
Yeah l tend to think that keeping the starters fresh is one of the most important things for a defense to do. Id love to see more rotation even if it means more busts.
December 4th, 2019 at 7:56 PM ^
I agree. I love Don Brown but man where is the rotation? Like PSU last year with leaving the first string in late hoping for a shutout.
December 4th, 2019 at 8:53 PM ^
Want to know why Ohio State is so much better than Michigan? Yes the talent gap, but look at who beat Rutgers worse this year. Ohio State put the young guys in much earlier. They gave up 21 points, but whats more important? Having a nice, fancy number in the stat sheet or developing the program? It's not the only reason Ohio State has better retention but its a major one.
December 4th, 2019 at 8:37 PM ^
McGrone was the straw that broke the camels back, he just looked so good right off that bat, I couldn't help but assume the coaches were valuing instincts over pure talent. Just really annoying because when you get pure talent you can develop the instincts.
December 4th, 2019 at 11:22 PM ^
Another reason Kenpom Brown needs to gtfo.
